What time does your alarm go off, and do you ping out of bed straightaway?

I have a new medication to take at least an hour before coffee or tea, so was feeling annoyed I'll have to set my alarm for about half an hour before I plan on getting up - but then realised I never get up with the first alarm anyway Grin so I just need to tweak my way a bit.

I have a few set over the course of 20 mins or half an hour to ease myself into the morning. Am shit at getting up really.

How do you do the morning wake up? Do you need time to acclimatise or do you leap out of bed?

I started a new job yesterday and haven't quite worked out timings for getting myself and DS up and out ready for me to go to work. Currently my alarm goes off at 5.30 and snoozes every 5 minutes until 6. I get up somewhere between 6 and 6.30, sort myself out then get DS up at 7. Leave the house at 7.20 to drop DS at my mums by 7.30, to leave again at 7.50 and catch the train at 8.01!

The worst part is getting out of bed to a cold flat. The timer on my boiler is broken so I can't set it to come on before I get out of bed 😭 otherwise I'd be up and out so much faster!

JorisBonson · 05/11/2019 18:17

First alarm at 5.10, second at 5.15 then phone and iPad alarms at 5.20 so I actually get up.

When I used to work normal people hours I would do that for an hour 🙄 quickly got rid of that routine with early starts

EugenesAxe · 05/11/2019 22:31

@BumbleBeee69 - cool. To me the navy is pretty glam to be honest 😆 Thanks for humouring me

7am usually and get straight up. My neighbour has their bed against our wall. I can hear their alarm going off every 5 minutes from 6.30am. I don't know why they don't just set it for when they want to get up. It drives me mad.

PurpleTreeFrog · 05/11/2019 22:55

My 2 year old usually wakes me up between 7-7.30 but in case he has a bit extra, I have an alarm set for 7.45. I wake up, look at my phone for a couple of mins til my eyes feel more awake, and get up within 5 mins of the alarm going off.

I used to be a snoozer but since having kids I cherish every last second of real sleep I can get. By snoozing you're just robbing yourself of an extra half hour of decent sleep, and you'll still feel just as rough as you would've if you got up straight away. I hate mornings but snoozing is futile.

notso · 05/11/2019 23:08

If I need to be woken by an alarm I feel like absolute crap all day if I get up straight away. When I was still in school I'd get up, get dressed then get back into bed for half an hour.
My alarm goes off 45 mins before I have to get out of bed. I usually do two 15 minute snoozes then get up but I have space for a third if I'm really groggy.
In the holidays when I wake up naturally I feel fine.

BrokenWing · 05/11/2019 23:10

Alarm at 5:25 which is latest I need to get up, don't see point of being woken early to snooze.

HerRoyalNotness · 05/11/2019 23:11

6.35, get up at 7. I’m so knackered due to various things I’d love to just sleep and sleep but the kids need sending off to school

SisyphusHadItEasy · 05/11/2019 23:14

5am here. And 5:15.

I wake at 5, get out of bed at 5:15. I am often awake before my first alarm, but almost never get up before 5:15.

I have the same issue as OP, I have to take medication on am empty stomach. It sits beside my bed with a glass of water. I take it with the first alarm, then up and shower after the second, and time for a cup of tea before I get DD up at 6.

Dollymixture22 · 05/11/2019 23:17

6am on weekdays, but often snooze until 6:30.

7am on Saturday and get up immediately.

Sleep In as long as I want on Sunday - so usually get up at around 8am

ArsenicGreen · 05/11/2019 23:18

Alarm 6.45, quick cuddle (not a euphamism) with DH and up at 6.50. Straight to the shower otherwise I would never make it to work.

Oooh err Missus Grin

AgeLikeWine · 05/11/2019 23:30

I am not a morning person at all, so I set my alarm for 8, which is the latest possible time while still getting to work on schedule. I get up immediately and I am under the shower within one minute, because I have to be.

SluggishSnail · 05/11/2019 23:31

I have mad middle of night insomnia, so am often awake from 3am or so. Sometimes I don't go back to sleep, so get up at 6.30 and go to work. Weekends are better, I can get up at 9.30 or 10 which sounds like an amazing lie in but is actually only 6 or 7 hours sleep (weekdays far less)

EyeDrops · 05/11/2019 23:42

I'm a snoozer, but as a pp said I feel like I can't rely on hitting snooze so have separate alarms. 6.30, 6.50, 6.55 then reluctantly up. I hate mornings!!

The worst is if my DD wakes up say 10-15 minutes before my alarm - I feel utterly robbed. During the night, no problem at all as I can go back to bed. But being forced up right before my alarm is due anyway is just awful!!

Bluerussian · 05/11/2019 23:49

I don't need an alarm now that I'm retired. I never 'pinged' out of bed, hated the alarm.

0DimSumMum0 · 06/11/2019 01:40

The alarm is set for 6 then 6.15. So I either snooze the 6 one or switch it off completely and wait for the 6.15, then get straight up Smile

EntropyRising · 06/11/2019 01:43

I never set an alarm but I'm happy if I can sleep until 6am. Morning person.

Sceptre86 · 06/11/2019 07:22

My alarm goes off at 6.30 am but I am usually up just before it anyway. My dh will put his on for 6am wake me up but not himself and thw6m wait for the next alarm at 6.30am to actually get out of bed. It pisses me right off and I find it so inconsiderate. He does it a lot less now though but is very groggy in the morning whereas I am not. He has always been that way according to mil whilst I am the opposite.

Squirrelblanket · 06/11/2019 07:26

It gets set for various times depending on what I'm doing but I do get up as soon as it goes off. This is because I always set it at the latest time possible which still gives me time to get ready. I would rather have the extra time in bed than have ages to get ready.

It tends to be a moot point though as I usually wake before it goes off.

Soubriquet · 06/11/2019 07:27

2.30 am

I’m usually awake before that, but I still get out of bed. The more i lay in saying “5 more minutes” the harder it is to get out

GaaaaarlicBread · 06/11/2019 07:28

My alarm goes off at 7, I get straight up. But my husband has his set for 6:15 and snoozes every 5 until 7 as he ‘likes the feeling of knowing he hasn’t got to get up for another 45 mins’ much to my annoyance . So I guess according to his alarm I don’t get up straight away.
I did a course at work and I was told the dangers of snoozing alarms . It messes with your heart or something . So I think thanks to DH, I’m fucked

TeeBee · 06/11/2019 07:42

5.40 for the gym. I get my arse out of bed at 6...so 20 minutes to come runs a bit. Then I can convince myself I've had a lie in.

Appletreehouse · 06/11/2019 08:08

Before kids I used to set my alarm 30 min early and snooze for ages. Since kids are up at 5 30 I have to just bounce out of bed once they're up. I too have a sun alarm clock that wakes me naturally and it works wonders
