When I say laugh, it's a wry laugh believe me

GingerPCatt · 28/11/2019 08:10

Happy thanksgiving!! 🦃 I’ve been lurking on these threads since 2016 and I am very thankful for the regulars that keep them going. I’m an American living in the UK so these are a vital lifeline for me to keep up with the crazy across the pond.

Roussette · 28/11/2019 08:16

Welcome and Happy Thanksgiving GingerPCatt, it's lovely to hear from lurkers Smile

Speaking of dirt:

3 women accuse Trump impeachment witness Gordon Sondland of sexual misconduct

It's like they have a club.
I'd suspect they came to light because someone was/is trying to discredit him, but it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
This guy with no diplomatic experience was chosen by this Administration for some reason.

"Deutsche Bank Executive Who Approved Trump's Loans Commits Suicide"
Reportedly. I hope he wasn't found hanging with rope marks around his wrists.

My initial thought was not that he was killed by someone else, but that I wanted to know who had what hold on him that had suddenly become intolerable so that he killed himself rather than have it revealed.

PerkingFaintly · 28/11/2019 13:50

Happy Thanksgiving to all the US lurkers and posters.

Lweji · 28/11/2019 14:04

I wanted to know who had what hold on him that had suddenly become intolerable so that he killed himself rather than have it revealed.

That works too.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 28/11/2019 16:44

Reading the report posted by lionheart this morning about the fake university set up by ICE.
Am I missing something but - surely this is entrapment?
The authority spent all that money setting it up, got overseas students to apply, issued legitimate student visas and then arrested them?!

Lweji · 28/11/2019 17:01

It's not even entrapment, unless the university was open about providing fake student status.
If the students thought they were enrolling in a legitimate course and intended to study, then it should be fraud pure and simple.

"Reddy said, though, that in some cases, students who transferred out from the University of Farmington after realizing they didn't have classes on-site, were still arrested. "

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/11/2019 17:34

I simply don't understand what the point was of the ICE fake university. Import a lot of people and only to deport them again seems completely futile. Or did they make enough money from fees paid in advance to show a profit on their sting?

Trump makes surprise visit to U.S. troops in Afghanistan

www.washingtonpost.com/
BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan — President Trump visited Afghanistan for the first time on Thursday, delivering Thanksgiving greetings to U.S. troops deployed here in America’s longest-running war and announcing he had resumed peace negotiations with the Taliban.
Making an unannounced trip, Trump touched down at 8:30 p.m. local time at Bagram air base at 8:30 p.m. — the primary hub for U.S. air operations located outside the Afghan capital of Kabul — after secretly departing Florida in the dark of night.
Trump has long wanted to draw down forces in Afghanistan and he said here Thursday that he had restarted peace talks and was hopeful of a cease fire.
“The Talbian wants to make a deal and we’re meeting with them and we’re saying it has s to be a cease fire and they didn’t want to do a cease fire and now they do want to do a cease fire,” Trump said. I believe it’ll probably work out that way.”
This is the president’s second visit to a combat zone; he visited troops in Iraq the day after Christmas in 2018. Vice President Pence made a surprise trip last week to Al Asad air base in Iraq, where he served turkey and greeted troops.
“We are winning like we have not won in a long time. We are respected like we have not been respected in a long time,” Trump told troops assembled in a hangar. “Our citizens know that we are standing guard, crushing our enemies ... I am here today to just really say, Happy Thanksgiving, but also thank you very much.”
The president served turkey to troops in a cafeteria and posed for photos with them.

Trump was expected to be on the ground for about two-and-half hours. He met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and confirmed that he would like to reduce the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan to 8,600.
Trump’s visit here comes as the Afghan government, together with a foreign force of around 15,000 U.S. and NATO troops, is locked in an extended stalemate with the Taliban.

I figured that was on the cards. Lots of criticism on social media of the fact that he hadn't made a visit of this kind.

Means they are thinking about the 'optics' and his obvious weak points (especially in relation to the military).

Even Tucker Carlson on Fox knows Trump is a serial liar - he just said so. He doesn’t care though, as apparently he sometimes says true stuff.

FLOP TRUMPS Tory chiefs fear loose-tongued Donald Trump could blow up their election campaign when he visits Britain next week
www.thesun.co.uk/news/10446267/boris-johnson-donald-trump-visit-uk-general-election/

Mr Trump arrives in London on Monday night for a two-day visit to attend the annual NATO summit, hosted by Boris Johnson.
But Conservative campaign bosses are trying to keep the number of public appearances the PM makes with POTUS to an absolute minimum.
They want to stop the president from tearing up the rigidly controlled Tory election messaging with any explosive comments on the NHS or Brexit.
Jeremy Corbyn and Nigel Farage are both waiting in the wings to try to weaponise Mr Trump’s arrival to their own benefit.

While the two leaders’ schedules are still being arranged, The Sun understands they won’t even meet for face to face talks through his 48 hour period in the UK.

Instead, Mr Johnson will swerve all controversial one-on-one moments by hosting all 29 NATO state leaders for a reception alongside The Queen at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday night.

It is unprecedented for America’s visiting head of state not to be hold bilateral talks with the Prime Minister in No10.
So Trump doesn’t look snubbed, the PM will also refuse to host any other world leader for bilateral talks in No10.

A senior Tory campaign source told The Sun: “Trump could say anything, we have no control over it.

“It’s a very unwelcome disruption just nine day out from polling day, so we will need to manage the risk.”

It has also emerged that Labour are planning a series of ambushes with the President’s arrival, and will try to revive claims that he wants US firms to own chunks of the NHS under a new UK-US trade deal.

Roussette · 29/11/2019 09:17

Let's hope that ole Trumpy just puts his foot in it with something to do with the NHS, that would be very welcome in the fight against BoJo.

No words. Sad
(I admit that I don't know if this is down to the Repugs but I think they hold the balance of power in Ohio legislature.)
