they are all wearing suits at least two sizes too big...
and very neat hair

RhinoskinhaveI · 13/11/2019 17:16

the only defense they'll be left with is 'well, so what'

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, D-NY, sits on the Intel Committee, and he joins Morning Joe to discuss the first day of public impeachment hearings
TheNorthWestPawsage · 13/11/2019 17:41

This is what Fox News thinks its viewers should know about Ambassador Taylor as he begins his testimony, in case you were wondering how they were going to introduce spin into live hearings.

GOP questioning: Try to get witness to 'admit' things he never said. Try to spin what he did say. Try to get witness to 'opine' about things/events he had no knowledge of.

Dem questioning: Reiterate things witness DID say. Tell the facts as they are. Have witness stick to the facts of things/events he knows.

So far, as expected. But at least we don't have those damned 5 minute sessions where all the GOP Reps do is whine and stamp feet.

shouty questioning has started

lionheart · 13/11/2019 20:06

Jim Jordan is an odious man.

AcrossthePond55 · 13/11/2019 20:08

Sigh.

Jordan needs to stfu. Or at least conduct himself in a professional manner and stick to what they're there for: seeking information, not grandstanding and spouting conspiracy theories.

I'm thinking of Igor fawning around his master in those old B movies.

TheClaws · 13/11/2019 23:01

The GOP propaganda machine is running overtime.

lionheart · 13/11/2019 23:34

I expect the bots are churning out some hot air too.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/11/2019 01:51

I felt the Dem line of questioning brought more clarity as far as the actions of Scrotus, Rudy, et al. It was enlightening for those of us interested in the truth and in preserving out electoral processes.

And that the GOP line of 'questioning' was simply re-stating administration lies, trying to twist what the witnesses said, and spouting conspiracy theories. And trying to blow the credibility of two very, very credible witnesses. I'm sure it was a real TV watching circle jerk for Scrotus fanbase.

The real issue is: What is the 'take' of those who are truly undecided?

Absolutely lion. Much of it is ridiculous and has little basis in fact. However, and I’ve said this before, the MAGA followers - almost like zombies now - will just repeat the propaganda lines to their followers, and their friends and family with little critical thought. “Oh, it was all second- and third-hand information! Hearsay! Not admissible!” It is admissible, and in their positions, second- or third-hand information information is all the diplomats would be likely to deal with. They reported it, however, and it correlates with that of the whistleblower. I don’t like painting MAGAs as zombies, but judging from what I read - they either don’t think or thinking scares them. A bit of “hang on, what’s going on here,” leads them down a path too frightening to contemplate.

TheClaws · 14/11/2019 05:43

Thank you for the good wishes, everyone. We’re OK for now but any threat isn’t over yet with hot days to come. Everything is very dry as we haven’t had any rain for a long time - this doesn’t help. Our house backs onto farmland so I always watch that nervously - a blaze could run down the paddocks in moments. At the minute I cant have the windows open as the smoke is so heavy. (and smelly!)

lionheart · 14/11/2019 06:32

Sounds awful Claws. I hope it passes soon.

Roussette · 14/11/2019 07:08

Sorry to hear this Claws, I hope it eases soon.

Watching yesterday, I did think that Schiff conducted himself very well. He dealt with the dissent (which was fairly frequent) strongly and spoke concisely and with conviction.

As far as Jordan.... that man is ghastly and WTAF does he never wear a jacket when every other single person in that room was. He just ranted and didn't ask questions.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/11/2019 12:22

I like Trump's selective memory.

www.washingtonpost.com/politics/impeachment-hearings-begin-with-revelation-of-phone-call-implicating-trump-in-ukraine-scandal/2019/11/13/de8d21b8-063b-11ea-b17d-8b867891d39d_story.html

Very convenient that although there is evidence that the call took place, he doesn't remember it. Maybe if his memory is going, he ought to be relieved of his duties?

lionheart · 14/11/2019 18:29

Either way. Smile

Rudy Giuliani says Trump will stay loyal to him but jokes that he has 'insurance'
Exclusive: president’s personal lawyer has emerged as a key figure in the impeachment inquiry, with speculation Republicans will seek to paint him as a rogue actor
www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/nov/14/rudy-giuliani-donald-trump-insurance-loyal

In a telephone interview with the Guardian, in response to a question about whether he was nervous that Trump might “throw him under a bus” in the impeachment crisis, Giuliani said, with a slight laugh: “I’m not, but I do have very, very good insurance, so if he does, all my hospital bills will be paid.”

Giuliani’s lawyer, Robert Costello, who was also on the call, then interjected: “He’s joking.”
