'NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS all plan to pull normal programming in favor of coverage of the impeachment hearings.'

AcrossthePond55 · 13/11/2019 02:31

Thanks for that update lion. None of the guides I use showed any coverage other than CNN.

DH isn't sure he'll be able to cope with the GOP questioning. He does tend to 'talk back' to the TV. Loudly. I told him I'm going to keep the TV on in the bedroom in case I have to decamp there to watch in peace.

Hello, friends, I've not been around much as I can't stand it, this and Johnson are "doing my head in" but I lurk quite a bit.
About the television coverage of the impeachment hearings - does anyone remember what happened when Starr was investigating Clinton? I seem to remember an awful lot on the UK TV news about it, but I don't know how that translated to US TV coverage in real time?

Roussette · 13/11/2019 07:36

Jai Agree, my head's done in too!

lionheart · 13/11/2019 10:09

I must admit that I still find the GOP questioning shocking to witness (this goes back to the Yates/Clapper hearings).

It's not even that it is all so partisan but that it is so blatantly dishonest.

Such bad faith when the stakes are so high is repellent.

Who on earth wants to remembered as one of Trump's slimy foot-soldiers?

cozietoesie · 13/11/2019 11:52

I agree. 'ish'.

RhinoskinhaveI · 13/11/2019 12:48

Trumps defences are the defences of the classic narcissist....
It didn't happen, but if it did happen it wasn't a bad thing, but if it was a bad thing I don't know the people that did the bad thing
All he has are his 'stupid like a fox' instincts, he doesn't really understand why he can't act like a king and get away with it.
I love the fiery sunrise in the Time article, welcome to hell Donald Trump 😈

TheNorthWestPawsage · 13/11/2019 14:13

Hope you and your home are safe TheClaws - so much more important than the Orange Turd!

Feeling somewhat despondent about the outcome of these hearings. The only way is to vote him out and then let the prosecutors go after him.

lionheart · 13/11/2019 15:01

BBC Parliament channel has never held such an appeal.

AcrossthePond55 · 13/11/2019 15:15

And I think everyone believes that's what will happen Paws. He'll be impeached in the House, but the GOP will vote along party lines during the Senate trial so motion to remove will be defeated.

A lot of this is about getting the facts out there so he won't have a chance in 2020.

Nunes going for 'Russian hoax', 'coup' and Hunter Biden narrative.

lionheart · 13/11/2019 15:29

It's a giant FBI, Intelligence agency and justice dept. plot.

PerkingFaintly · 13/11/2019 15:32

BBC Parliament channel's been my default since Johnson announced he would prorogue Parliament.

I thought I should at least watch my country's democracy in its last few days.

And then lo! the courts restored parliament!

And that was worth watching, too!

PerkingFaintly · 13/11/2019 15:34

Sorry your area is affected by the bushfires, TheClaws. Will be thinking of you.

Lweji · 13/11/2019 15:47

The good thing about the Impeachment trial is that his flaws are constantly on the news and talked about, instead of him being able to distract from the various issues with a constant stream of "I can't believe he did that".

State dept. reps are doing a good job of presenting Ukraine background.

Roussette · 13/11/2019 16:12

I have the impeachment hearing on in the background, and the two witnesses -
George Kent, the deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs.
and
William Taylor, the acting U.S. ambassador to Ukraine

They are consumate officials and quite obviously dedicated public officials who just believe in rule of law, constitution etc.

I imagine they will not be easily riled or tripped up. I also imagine tRump is brickin' it, hearing these opening statements.

Roussette · 13/11/2019 16:24

He describes in painstaking detail how congressionally approved support for strategic Allies Ukraine was completely undermined for personal gain by Giuliani, Trump and their minions

Taylor said he believed the Trump administration had withheld military aid to Ukraine, in exchange for an investigation into a political rival. His testimony in October detailed weeks of conversations concerning the use of military aid to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate a company where former Vice President Joe Biden’s son served on the board.

Time and time again this Ambassador raised concerns to Pompeo and others. He asks if there is a new foreign policy he doesn't know about. He asks countlessly whether aid is dependent on Biden investigations.

Very many implicated in this testimony... Sondland, Pence, Mulvaney, Pompeo, and of course Guiliani
I am not totally au fait with all this but from what I know this is shocking.

Roussette · 13/11/2019 16:25

"Foreign policy was undercut by Guiliani"

Roussette · 13/11/2019 16:50

Both these men were on the July call with Trump and Zelensky.

If this doesn't bury Trump, nothing will.
