That they should have brought fresh sheets

So we're on holiday and toddler DS has thrown up all over his cot, all over our bed and over half of the towels.

We ring reception to ask for fresh sheets. Nope, can't get anything till the morning. Pointed out we have no sheets for the bed and have the same line repeated again.

AIBU to think this is ridiculous at a so-called luxury resort? DS has finally fallen asleep on his beach towel covered mattress and DH and I are in puke covered sheets with the worst wiped off.

We’ve had a child be sick in a travelodge in the middle of the night and they were more than happy to change sheets. Complain.

Themutts · 01/11/2019 17:42

They deserve the bad travel review. Not long ago my DS was really sick in a family/chain hotel in Calais. One young guy on reception. He tried to get us another room without me asking - sadly there was nothing available. He helped me upstairs with the sheets and proceeded to start scrubbing the carpet/ help me and DH make the best out of a horrid situation. This wasn't a luxury resort, just a stop over. You deserve better!

Loki1983 · 01/11/2019 17:44

That’s disgraceful. You pay for a luxury holiday you expect first class treatment. I’m outraged!

Honeyroar · 01/11/2019 17:49

That water is not right!! No wonder he's been ill. And that's coming from someone who travels a lot and has well water, so understands that water can discolour occasionally, but it should clear in a day or so, not be consistently dirty - and especially somewhere where you've got paying guests!

MrsBadcrumble123 · 01/11/2019 17:50

Terrible service!! We’ve been bought fresh bedding by campsite security when my toddler puked in middle of night in a caravan. I’d do my nut at the manager, rep, etc

MrsBadcrumble123 · 01/11/2019 17:52

Name and shame plus see if they have a Twitter account / make a complaint and we can all share it!

Windowboxgardener · 01/11/2019 17:53

Where is this place? I want to know so I can avoid it!!

Interestedwoman · 01/11/2019 17:54

Eww! It all sounds really crap. Write them the worst ever Tripadvisor review afterwards.

Applesanbananas · 01/11/2019 17:56

Your little one may have picked up something from the water? even if everyone else seems ok, he might not have reacted well. That water is disgusting. I dont think anyone would feel ok using it even if they say it's fine.
I would definitely be giving them a bad review along with that photo.

bondgirl76 · 01/11/2019 17:59

I wouldent of asked.I would just say..we need clean sheets ..how quickly can you bring them
Their responce was ridiculous.

Gottagetout · 01/11/2019 18:01

I'm a night manager in a hotel and have dealt with this many times. We did have an incident once where the laundry company couldn't deliver due to weather, and therefore we used our stock of sheets and towels and had sent a load to a local launderette and I was busy trying to dry everything with one tumble dryer overnight. A lady got ill through the night and needed fresh everything, I didn't have it right there and then (and no amount of screaming at me would have produced any either!) I gave clean duvet/pillows, bagged the soiled up, gave the load of towels I'd got dry to cover bed in the short term and explained that as soon as I had dry sheets I'd take them straight up. And did, helped make the bed, scrubbed the floor and offered assistance in any way I could.
It was far from ideal but we got a big thank you because of the way I handled it. That's what makes the difference, how something like this is handled and this sounds like it was handled badly. Security should have contacted someone to find out what to do if they didn't know. The hotel should have someone on duty or on call that could deal with any guest issues like this. Hardly luxury if they haven't really. I'd be making a complaint in person to the manager, and see what the resolution is before doing anything else.

Sara107 · 01/11/2019 18:01

They should have helped you. Even on the car ferry we got moved to a different cabin and helped to clean ourselves up when we had a sick child. In addition, the on duty first aider ( also the chef!) visited every 20 mins to monitor the child’s temperature. Definitely not ‘luxury’ treatment.

SuckerForYou · 01/11/2019 18:35

Wow, that water is disgusting!

Their response is pretty pathetic! DS was sick all over his sheets at a caravan holiday park we were staying at and the night staff came straight around with fresh bedding and collected the dirty items. If they can do that at a holiday park with no problem then I would definitely expect it at a luxury resort! Why couldn't they open a cupboard?!

Mikki69 · 01/11/2019 18:50

Round up the sheets and take them down to Reception,! At least they won't be stinking your room out! See how quickly they deal with it then!

Jack80 · 01/11/2019 19:44

They should have supplied clean sheets and put you in a clean room if not ok to be slept in

ILearnedItFromABook · 01/11/2019 19:56

Surely a luxury hotel should at least have a few extra sets of sheets stowed away somewhere in case of overnight emergencies! Even if the only people there are security, it wouldn't take much for them to know where they are (stashed behind the check-in desk, perhaps) so they could ask guests to come down and get a fresh change (assuming the security person can't leave his/her post).

I agree that a poor review is warranted!

Turquoise123 · 01/11/2019 20:14

System normal - this mirrors my experiences in so called luxury hotels . Hope the rest of your stay is lovely. Give me a small family run hotel .. people who get it and care

The3Ls · 01/11/2019 20:19

Me too travelodge in Chester went to apologise for child wetting bed (we d put a proctor down) and promptly brought clean sheets dovet and sympathy in the middle of the night!

justasking111 · 01/11/2019 20:21

I would put the picture of the water on trip advisor and your comments while you are there, that will put the wind up them.

kateandme · 01/11/2019 20:30

can you please tell us where this plac is?people have asked repeatedly.

ive been on a campsite and they have provided fresh bloody linen when this happened.

sqirrelfriends · 01/11/2019 21:12

Sounds utterly appalling, it may warrant a Section 75 Claim to your credit card provider - if you paid on one. They can just reverse the payment and you’ll get some/all of your money back.

Dislocatedeyeballs · 01/11/2019 23:39

Cocos?

ToftyAC · 02/11/2019 09:47

That’s outrageous OP and the water looks disgusting. Luxury my arse. They’re in the service industry and don’t seem accommodating in the slightest. I hope you at least get an apology.....
