That they should have brought fresh sheets

So we're on holiday and toddler DS has thrown up all over his cot, all over our bed and over half of the towels.

We ring reception to ask for fresh sheets. Nope, can't get anything till the morning. Pointed out we have no sheets for the bed and have the same line repeated again.

AIBU to think this is ridiculous at a so-called luxury resort? DS has finally fallen asleep on his beach towel covered mattress and DH and I are in puke covered sheets with the worst wiped off.

Given that your child is vomiting and your water is dirty, I would be prioritising a medical check for your child. You may well have washed him in boiled water, but you have no control over the kitchen hygiene practices when food and drinks are prepared and utensils washed.

And of course you should have been brought fresh sheets.

I would put in a complaint to your tour operator immediately, no point waiting- you need them to resolve the situation.

WorraLiberty · 31/10/2019 10:22

They sound awful OP. It can't be that difficult to get you some clean sheets ffs.

As an aside though, why would you choose to sleep on vomit covered sheets instead of just sleeping without them? Is there no duvet?

headinhands · 31/10/2019 10:46

Yeah no, that is unacceptable.

We were in a caravan in Cornwall and dh had only mentioned in passing up at the shop the next morning that one of the kids had had a tummy upset through the night. And even though we were lucky and were only a couple of towels down, someone from the office came down a short while later with a big pile of clean sheets, towels etc.

sqirrelfriends · 31/10/2019 10:53

He's full of beans this morning but we will obviously keep an eye on him and ring for a doctor if it starts up again.

No duvet, we used the top sheet as a makeshift sheet and slept without any cover. It was warm anyway.

Yes you should complain I bet you have paid a fortune to stay. Is it advertises as a family resort? If so they should be geared up to babies and this must have happened before.

81Byerley · 31/10/2019 11:06

I think I'd take all the soiled linen down to reception...

TinklyLittleLaugh · 31/10/2019 11:12

Boiling the water will only kill anything “living” in it though. It won’t remove any chemical or heavy metal type contamination.

norfolkskies · 31/10/2019 11:35

dump the sheets on receptions desk. face book page. moan loudly for all to hear.

Gwenhwyfar · 31/10/2019 11:48

I'm amazed that people are shocked at this. Plenty of cheaper places won't give you extra anything. I've been to lots of places when it's very cold and there's no extra blankets in the cupboard or any available because every room is full.
I don't think it's that shocking that in a small/cheap hotel, housekeeping might not be open in the middle of the night.

MaggieFS · 31/10/2019 11:49

@Gwenhwyfar But the OP described it as a luxury resort!

Gwenhwyfar · 31/10/2019 11:49

Ah, sorry, missed the luxury resort bit.

BlouseAndSkirt · 31/10/2019 12:00

Wow.

What country are you in?

sqirrelfriends · 31/10/2019 12:15

We're on a tiny resort on a Caribbean island, very nice and family focused but small. Only about 30 or so suites.

Just got back from reception, just a flimsy apology and an explanation that the front desk closes at 11:30 and we spoke with security who can't do much. Our fault for letting DS get sick at an inconvenient time I guess Hmm

I didn't go in all guns blazing as it's not my style but I did express how disappointed I was that my DS had to sleep on a towel and us on soiled sheets. They will "let my feelings be known", whatever that means.

Blimey Op, I had a similar situation in a Travel Lodge in Leeds and got better service. They even offered to make the beds again for us

Bbq1 · 31/10/2019 12:48

Be careful because as soon as the manager realises he's sick they'll probably be panicking your ds has got Norovirus and want you confined to your room. My ds is 14 now and has been sick every single holiday since he was 4 years old. We have regularly asked for clean sheets in the past and almost everytime we've had management knocking on the asking if he's got a bug. I then have to explain it's not a bug, just something that happens and he'll be fine in an hour or two. Hope your ds gets better soon.

sqirrelfriends · 31/10/2019 13:04

I've contacted the travel operator. They're going to speak with management, hopefully we can have a good outcome.

Going to send on this pic. Surely this can't be normal:

This is a travel hazard with small dc but I have never known staff refuse to help regardless of the status of the hotel.
I would be very cross and explaining that if they didn't want this highlighting on trip advisor I expected some good Will gesture from the hotel.

sqirrelfriends · 31/10/2019 14:49

So we've just now had fresh sheets. Not put on yet but left outside the door as DS is napping (on the beach towel still) also a call from the management asking is he's ok.

I think BA must have called them.

I asked what country because my ILs live on an island where water arrives in tankers and is pumped into hotel or house tanks.

It isn’t that colour!!!

ilikefastcars · 01/11/2019 06:30

That water is minging!
Hope ds feels better today. Appalling service from the hotel!

FredaFrogspawn · 01/11/2019 06:43

That water looks horrible. We used to have peaty- coloured water in Scotland when I lived in the highlands sometimes but it wasn’t scummy like that.

stucknoue · 01/11/2019 07:05

If it were the travel lodge they are telling the truth, their linen is done off site we discovered (in sufficient for the family room we booked, they don't have spare on site) but a luxury resort I'm surprised, I've had extra towels for instance

GoFiguire · 01/11/2019 07:05

Meh 🤢

transformandriseup · 01/11/2019 07:23

Wow, really? I worked at the cheapest of the cheap holiday park in Cornwall with extremely basic accommodation but there were stacks of extra sheets/blankets. Plus the sofa was also a bed with made up sheets so they could be taken off there if needed new clean ones at night.

sqirrelfriends · 01/11/2019 07:54

The water really is grim. It is the same all over the resort though and everyone is fine so I believe it's safe. It's just a bit shit to pay £££ for a holiday to have to was on that manky stuff. I love a bath as well.

We had a reply from the travel rep. They spoke to the hotel and then emailed what they had to say. It was literally an account of what happened. At no point have we had a decent apology, just an explanation as if it should be perfectly fine and we are very unreasonable to expect to be able to contact a staff member who can do anything at 1:30am.

I have drafted an email back basically saying the experience was disappointing and that we expected more from the hotel. Also threatening a bad trip advisor review. I haven't sent yet though.
