How are you voting in December?

Apologies if there’s already a thread on this - I did look and couldn’t find one.

So now it’s been confirmed that we’re having a GE in December, how are you voting? And what are your predictions on the results?

I’ve seen quite a few posts on here over the past couple months from people saying they wouldn’t vote now as they are politically homeless - wondering if these people still feel that way?

I’m voting labour - albeit in a very safe Tory area (so feel very much as though my vote doesn’t count). Reasons being I would never vote Tory and I don’t like a lot of what the Lim Dems have said recently. I also couldn’t bring myself not to vote at all.

Lib Dem although JS is appalling
I don't mind old Jezza but we're polar opposites in every respect. I don't think he's ever set foot on a farm.

Willowcat77 · 30/10/2019 09:03

Labour, because of their policies. If you want to keep the NHS and worker's rights, they are the party to vote for. Read their Manifesto.

baffledbeyondbelief · 30/10/2019 09:04

For those that are considering spoiling their ballot paper what is the reason?

I'm involved in the count process at a local level and spoilt papers just create an additional 'job' and therefore costs increase. Counters are paid hourly so surely you'd want them to be done as soon as possible?

I've never know any party be upset by the number of spoilt ballots.

NotQuiteUsual · 30/10/2019 09:04

Lib Dems. They're the closest to my ideals and the second biggest party in my area.

Loodally · 30/10/2019 09:04

Labour. Our local Labour MP has been excellent so far, as opposed to our former Conservative MP, who did absolutely nothing.
I don't agree with everything JC says but I like Keir Starmer and think he would make a good future prime minister.
I couldn't ever vote Conservative, they've practically destroyed this country.

frumpety · 30/10/2019 09:04

If it is a hung parliament , how will Brexit get sorted ?
The election means less time to scrutinise and debate the WA , Parliament breaks up for Christmas for a week, back at the beginning of January , then just a few short weeks before the end of the extension period, again ! The most sensible thing to do would be to allow Parliament the time to sort out its differences on the WA, but then I remember this is UK post referendum politics, so absolutely no chance of sensible or pragmatic Smile

Buccanarab · 30/10/2019 09:05

SNP. Not a massive fan of some of their policies (and even less of a fan of my MP) but until we gain independence that's the only option for me.

ShatnersWig · 30/10/2019 09:05

Enthusiasm Of course some people vote like that but equally others vote on local issues. Otherwise you would never ever have had some independent MPs. Johnson, Corbyn, Swinson et all aren't coming knocking on my door for my vote - local candidates are.

ExecutiveFiat · 30/10/2019 09:05

I’m not a Corbyn fan as in I don’t think he’s PM material. Now Keir Starmer on the other hand would probably get Labour over the line. However, Corbyn a decent honest man who has had the most outrageous lies and smears levelled at him by the gutter press. The whole anti Semitic thing is a case in point!

KidLorneRoll · 30/10/2019 09:05

I cannot get my head around why anyone would vote tory. If the polls are right this country is fucked and we can say goodbye to the UK as we know it.

Siameasy · 30/10/2019 09:06

Tory to keep Corbyn out
Safe Tory seat I think anyway.

ShatnersWig · 30/10/2019 09:06

baffled Read the thread, we've already answered that, several of us. You're the second person who wants people to think of the poor counters and not spoil our votes. Sod off. It's my vote, I will cast it as I see fit and you'll damn well count it.

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 09:07

frumpety hopefully another extension, then another, then another, then something huge happens and it gets forgotten about completely [fingers tightly crossed emoji]

Not sure how that’s relevant.

Spoiling a paper gives people the only way of saying “none of the above”

shinynewapple · 30/10/2019 09:07

@VictoriaBun That's the kind of chaos I imagine Brexit will bring!

y0rkier0se · 30/10/2019 09:08

So shocked at how many people will be voting Tory after the utter fuckery of the last few governments. I will be voting Labour

NameChange84 · 30/10/2019 09:08

My friend in the US spoiled her Ballot in their presidential elections as she didnt like both Trump and Clinton, feeling neither should have been chosen as candidates, and wanted Bernie Sanders. She thought Clinton would easily win, as that was what was being reported at the time. She advised her friends to spoil their ballots too in protest as to how the presidential candidates were chosen. Obviously Trump won and she's never got over the guilt. She was genuinely shocked.

Just imagine how you would feel if you spoiled your ballot, along with a good proportion of the country (someone above mentioned 10%), and the Brexit Party got elected for 5 years. Or if whatever government is elected drove the country further into the ground for the next five years. Spoiling your ballot doesnt absolve you of responsibility for what happens to the country. Use your vote wisely.

W0rriedMum · 30/10/2019 09:08

Lib Dems for the first time in many elections. I'm normally a Conservative voter but float a bit.

I would vote Labour with another leader (Yvette Cooper, Keir Starmer, even Ed Milliband) but can't forget Corbyn's support for unpalatable causes. I remember that he'd show up to every hardcore Irish Republican meeting in the 90s.
He has also failed to rid Labour of anti-Semites.
So it's a no for Labour while he's the leader.

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 09:08

Ime spoiled ballots are no extra trouble and can be a light moment in the boring tension of the count

victoria0132 · 30/10/2019 09:09

Lib Dem because of their stance on Brexit. Can't take Corbyn seriously and the tories caused this mess in the first place. Unsure why those anti conservative and who don't like Corbyn specifically have said would then vote conservative? There are other parties and who knows what might happen to a 'safe' seat now as everyone's so disillusioned with it all. Please use your votes 🗳

ExecutiveFiat · 30/10/2019 09:09

People who spoil their votes are behaving like toddlers having a tantrum. You either engage with the political process or you don’t.

Nanasueathome · 30/10/2019 09:10

Conservative

Inthemoment38 · 30/10/2019 09:11

Labour. Also delivering leaflets, canvassing etc

sevenswansareswimming · 30/10/2019 09:12

I'm not - never have, never will

Iggly · 30/10/2019 09:12

I disagree. I’ve spoiled my paper in the last local election because the only candidates were Tories or Independents who were ex Tories and had Tory policies.

To engage, the only thing left was to spoilt it 🤷🏻‍♀️
