To ask if baths are hygienic?!

I very much enjoy a nice bath in the evenings. Some days I'll shower, some days I'll have a bath depending on my mood.

I just saw something while browsing on Facebook on how baths are disgusting as your just bathing in your own filth, followed by many people commenting on how your supposed to shower after having a bath to clean yourself. I obviously wash myself with shower gel while in the bath but this made me think.... are baths hygienic?! Am I a filthy pig for bathing without showering after???

Happy to be a filthy pig then.
Book, bubbles and glass of wine- Heaven...
Happy to be the proverbial pig in ....

CAG12 · 29/10/2019 22:02

I also enjoy bathes and dont shower afterwards.

I think it depends on how dirty you are. If I was muddy etc id shower to get rid of it all. However if ive just been sitting in an office chair all day then I think a bath is fine.

Perhaps im also disgusting though!

Grimbles · 29/10/2019 22:03

If you shower/bathe regularly then there wont be that much filth for you to bathe in?

Dieu · 29/10/2019 22:05

It's weird, but I seem to feel cleaner after a bath. Maybe it's because your fud is fully submerged. Blush

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 29/10/2019 22:05

Well what a ridiculous waste of water having a shower after a bath would be.
Nope, I'm another one happy to be a filthy pig.

FooOOOOoooofffffff · 29/10/2019 22:07

The human race wouldn't have survived long enough to the invent the shower if baths were unhygienic.

Parsimon · 29/10/2019 22:08

The thing is, we’re not actually evolved to need cleansing to the point of sterilisation every evening. A bath or a shower is just fine for getting clean unless you’re literally covered in filth or manure.

Jellykat · 29/10/2019 22:09

Nothing like a good relaxing soak!

Sarahlou63 · 29/10/2019 22:09

Don't be ridiculous. If you bath every day how dirty do you think you can be? You are wasting a ton of water but that's another issue.

ColdRainAgain · 29/10/2019 22:11

If I'm filthy and want a soak, I'll shower first then have a bath.
Dont think I've ever showered after a bath tho.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 29/10/2019 22:11

Of course not. I share a bath with Dh regularly. Neither of us feels the need to shower afterwards.
So many people are weird about hygiene.

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/10/2019 22:11

DH always says baths are a nice idea but he doesn’t want to “lie in his own filth”.

I love a bath and always end up washing my hair as the back gets sweaty and I stand up under the shower to rinse conditioner off. I bath so hot I go lobster red but if I didn’t and didn’t have to wash my hair I wouldn’t bother showering after.

imundecided · 29/10/2019 22:14

I'm glad that I'm not the only one, we can all be 'filthy pigs' together Grin obviously if I was filthy and covered in mud or something I'd shower but otherwise I'm all for a nice bath

I regularly hear the remarks about ‘bathing in your own dirt’ if this topic comes up, however I don’t buy it, unless you are filthy/muddy when you get in, the volume/ratio of water you bathe in, far outweighs the dirt that comes off you, and most of that ‘dirty’ water will run off you the second you stand up, thus leaving you adequately clean

Northernsoullover · 29/10/2019 22:16

I'm happy to wallow in my own filth..I do love a bath but its for relaxing rather than washing. I shave my legs in there too.

IfWishesWereFishes · 29/10/2019 22:17

The word filth always annoys me in this context. How many people are actually filthy at the end of a standard day at the office?

Anyway, baths aren't for washing. They're for reading, eating crisps you've kept hidden from the kids, and listening to podcasts.

sidesplittinglol · 29/10/2019 22:17

I shower first to clean myself then have a bath so that way I'm not laying in my own filth and then just rinse myself down afterwards

Howzaboutye · 29/10/2019 22:26

The Japanese way is to shower first. Then you can wallow in lovely clean water with a clean body. It's great!

Swer987 · 29/10/2019 22:30

I only have a bath in my house. I never feel dirty after having a bath!

Lolwhat · 29/10/2019 22:32

I always shower before a bath or after it, I’m not a dirty person but still don’t want to be a crouton in filth soup

lotsofoysters · 29/10/2019 22:35

I don't get the "bathing in filth" thing. Like, the filth is already on you so whenever you're not in a bath are you just walking around "basking in filth" every day?!

ShinyGiratina · 29/10/2019 22:37

I'd shower if I was particularly mucky e.g. muddy legs after a long run, but just day to day grub and sweat, a bath is perfectly good to get rid of it.

I feel cleaner after a good wallow. I think it's because I can soak off a good layer of older skin cells compared to a 5 min shower and my skin feels softer after. I can also massage me scalp better as my hair floats in the water rather than plastered down with the flow of water.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 29/10/2019 22:39

If you have just done a Tough Mudder then have a shower first. If you only wash once a week then have a shower. Otherwise how dirty is a person going to get.

cherryblossomgin · 29/10/2019 22:42

I've never known anyone who showers after a bath. Unless you are covered in dirt a bath is fine. I think some people are germophobes.
