Would this put you off a date ?

So imagine you had been on a few dates with a guy, he seemed very nice and all.
One date you went to a retro gaming bar. To play the retro games, you need to purchase tokens from the bar. Tokens are £15 for 10.
Before leaving the bar, your date decides he would like to save a bit of money and slips the tokens into his pocket. (you are supposed to hand them in at the bar again before leaving).
This is so he can play for free next time.

It's theft, right ? Would you think less of this person/not see him again ?

Dishonestly is incredibly off putting. Especially for such a miniscule reason. I'd end it.
Previously spent a long time being lied to and I've no intention of doing it again

hazeljo · 27/10/2019 20:24

To be honest I don't think this would bother me massively unless there were signs of them being tight in other ways too

BetterWithCheddar · 27/10/2019 20:25

So were they unused ones that he had paid for? So you use some but had so me left over?

Crystal1981 · 27/10/2019 20:27

He had them but he was supposed to give them to the bar before leaving. However he did that so that he could come back next time and play completely free (and maybe times after that)

Yeah it'd be curtains for me

Needbettername · 27/10/2019 20:30

But he isn't playing for free as he paid for them? It's not like he is going to use them elsewhere he is going to come back and use the tokens he has paid for.
Weird thing to get worked up over.

Biancadelrioisback · 27/10/2019 20:32

Yeah since he's paid for them, I don't see it as theft. He has purchased something which he intends to use.

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 27/10/2019 20:33

I'm not really getting this. It wouldn't be free would it? He's paid for these tokens.

And this isn't theft. There's no intention to permanently deprive.

OctoberLovers · 27/10/2019 20:34

If he bought them, why would he hand them back?

Not theft. He bought them

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 27/10/2019 20:34

Wouldn't bother me. He's paid for them.

MyGoodTimes · 27/10/2019 20:34

He paid for the games so why can't he use them another time? It's not theft if he has paid for it. Confused

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 27/10/2019 20:34

(Incidentally, I'd be doing exactly the same as your date!)

Mumdiva99 · 27/10/2019 20:34

What would he get back if he hands them in? Do you get a refund on the unused tokens? If not why can't he keep them to use next time?

Grandadwasthatyou · 27/10/2019 20:35

I don't understand how some posters are saying this is theft, unless I'm missing something!

CodenameVillanelle · 27/10/2019 20:35

Were they unused tokens? Or do you buy the tokens, use them then hand them back?

Witchinaditch · 27/10/2019 20:35

Ugh how crass

NewBam · 27/10/2019 20:36

He paid for the tickets. Why would he hand them back? I think this is fine unless I am missing something.

Shooturlocalmethdealer · 27/10/2019 20:36

He bought them. I see no problem.

MadnessInMethod · 27/10/2019 20:36

It’s not theft. He paid for the tokens.Hmm

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 27/10/2019 20:36

We've been to a few of these - I've always used all my own tickets, but I know plenty of people who keep them for next time. You can only use them in each individual place and you've paid for them - they are fine; in my experience, with you bringing back tokens that you've used before. They just don't want loads of people taking them home and never returning, so the bar don't have to keep buying tokens!

I don't think this would bother me that much, it doesn't feel like theft really.

ShirleyPhallus · 27/10/2019 20:37

You’re saying this business is set up to charge people £15 for 10 tokens, the machine doesn’t swallow them so people have to collect them and give them back to the bar themselves? How do the bar know people only use the tokens once and don’t just use them over and over again?

Sounds like the bar has got their business proposal entirely wrong tbh

Lovebeingmama · 27/10/2019 20:37

Although not following the rules, this wouldn’t be an issue for me m. I certainly wouldn't think of him as a thief.
If he’s tight in other ways that’d be a different matter, but for this alone, nah.

FinnBalorsAbs · 27/10/2019 20:37

Could he have misunderstood that he had to hand them back? So he wasn’t deliberately doing anything immoral?

thistimelastweek · 27/10/2019 20:37

Deal breaker? Probably. Seems both tight and dishonest.
I definitely wouldn't want to be there when he fished them back out of his pocket.

SnorkMaiden81 · 27/10/2019 20:37

Of course it isn't theft. In fact I think it's a bit rude of the place to demand them back, once paid for...
