To think that the Welsh national anthem is one of the best in the world?

Not that im biased or anything...

But I really do think we have one of the best anthem's in the world, and its genuinely on a par with Stars and Stripes, Russia, France and Germany etc. Its rousing, sends tingles down your spine and am even though im not a massively patriotic it instills a real sense of pride in me. Which is what an anthem SHOULD do.

The dirge God Save the Queen isnt even comparible IMO. When the Queen goes the UK (if it still exists lol) really need to get a better anthem!

It is very much the best anthem ever and watching Alun Wyn sing it at the start of matches, well, 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿.

Not having grown up in Wales though (technically I'm English but that was a long time ago) I always forget that at the end of big events at the boys (Welsh medium) secondary they will stand and sing the anthem and it's a tiny bit weird. Just can't imagine everyone standing up at the end of prize giving and belting out God Save the Queen.

At my wedding back in the mists of time there was an English side and a Welsh side and by god you could tell which was which during the hymns.

I think the Dutch anthem is the best. The oldest in the world too.

YANBU. I like FoS too and the SA anthem too. But nowhere near as much.

I find the Italian anthem a bit over elaborate, it’s like an operetta!

I agree, proper spine tingling everytime I hear it or sing it. And Ken Owens singing was brilliant this morning 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I love the Irish national anthem, but again that’s for sentimental reasons.

I don't like Floo'er of Scotland - it was written relatively recently. A bit whingey to my ears - and we might have 'sent him home again to think again' but we formed a union with England in 1707 or thereabouts so the words are untrue.
We need a new one that can be played well on the bagpipes - now that does raise the hairs on the back of your neck.

It is an excellent anthem, but La Marseillaise is my favourite.

God Save the Queen is awful and the English frequently point out that we would like something a bit more stirring!

Totally agree...it’s a beautiful anthem and always makes me cry !! The welsh can sing their hearts out ! Definitely cannot beat the principality stadium to hear the anthem at its best !

Agree that God Save the Queen is a dirge! I'm half Welsh and just love the national anthem, especially when it's sung at the rugby - a whole stadium of voices belting it out gives me goosebumps and and overwhelming feeling of hiraeth.

I am Welsh. Lived in Wales all my life, don’t know the national anthem properly- we weren’t taught it in school.

Hearing a rugby crowd singing the Welsh national anthem is spine tingling.
