To ask postpartum hair - how long?

Hi all, just wondering if you're able to please tell me how long it took from the point that your hair started shedding post pregnancy to it slowing down? By slowing down I mean not coming out in clumps every time you went anywhere near it with a brush or god forbid.. with shampoo? Thanks

Sorry to break it to you, but DD is 6 and mine still isn't right.

I got it cut short which seems to have helped a lot but I want to grow it again. Hair dresser is a bit scissor happy!

Loaf90 · 24/10/2019 12:51

Oh no.. not what I wanted to hear 😁

SoyDora · 24/10/2019 12:53

Each time mine has started coming out in clumps at around 4 months and stopped around 7 months. Now 9 months PP with my third and it’s no longer falling out, it’s just at the hideous regrowth stage where I look like I have horns. Even my hairdresser has no idea how to get it looking respectable.

YelloThere · 24/10/2019 12:53

Hmm I would say a month or two.
And that’s based on having 3 kids.

shoofly · 24/10/2019 12:54

DS2 is 8 and hair has only marginally improved 😔

BendingSpoons · 24/10/2019 12:57

DS is 8 months and I haven't noticed this for a while. It was bad around 4/5 months so didn't last that long. I have very thick hair though so was happy enough to lose some!

SoyDora · 24/10/2019 13:05

I’m happy to lose some, it’s the regrowth that bothers me! Would rather it just stayed gone.

notforonesecond · 24/10/2019 13:05

My youngest is 18 months and it’s still coming out like mad!

Damntheman · 24/10/2019 13:05

Mine is still doing this and mine are 6 and 3 :/ I'm surprised there's still hair on my head!

Loaf90 · 24/10/2019 13:09

A real mixed bag then sigh

Mine started at 2 months pp - still going strong approaching 5 months.

It's getting me down and making my anxious. Not to mention it's bloody annoying

Fabuleuse · 24/10/2019 13:13

It didn't last very long for me. Probably about a month or two max, starting about 4 months pp. It grew back exactly the same, apart from all the greys that suddenly sprouted. Angry

Fantie · 24/10/2019 13:14

Mine lasted ages.. started after a few months and went on til about the year mark before it started growing back which also took ages.

Was worse the second time round too.

InDubiousBattle · 24/10/2019 13:15

Same as Soy, started falling out at around 4 months and stopped at 7 months. I thought with my first that stopping bf at 7 months halted then shedding but it was the same with dd who was still bf then so it was a coincidence. I have really fine hair and was genuinely worried I'd go bald, the re growth was very annoying(but very welcome!) especially around my forehead.

CileyMayRhinovirus · 24/10/2019 13:16

Always got back to normal around the 1 year mark for me

NaiceHamPlease · 24/10/2019 13:17

Mine was great all though pregnancy, thick, not greasy at all, right up to my period coming back at 6 months then I had quite dramatic hair loss. Think it lasted till 12 months or so, it's just about grown out now although I've had it cut into a very short bob.
During the fluffy horns stage a wore lots of thick hair bands! All back to normal now so although it's horrible it will pass.

babycatcher411 · 24/10/2019 13:27

Mines still coming out in fair amounts, but I’m fairly convinced it’s slowed a bit.
I noticed it about 4/5month mark when I spotted I had fluffy bits and my hair stopped being manageable, though it was probably coming away long before that, I just wasn’t observant enough.
He’s 7.5 months now.

hellotabitha · 24/10/2019 13:34

I’m really confused by this question! Whose hair is meant to shed - the mum or the baby? I’ve literally never heard of this before! Confused

PonderLand · 24/10/2019 13:40

@hellotabitha the mum

I think at about 8 months it started regrowing. Mine started at about 6 weeks. The nct group thought I was crazy when I asked if anyone else's hair is falling out, we met up a few months later and they all understood Grin

snowball28 · 24/10/2019 13:47

With all three of mine it’s started coming out in huge clumps around 4 months PP and stopped around 6-8 months with the older two. Currently about a month into it with my third, it’s the worst it’s ever been I’ve literal bald spots all along my front hairline and crown of my head.

It takes around 2-3 yers for it to grow back and start looking somewhat normal again. I have very long hair so it’s looking mega stringy and horrible right now 😬

Mumoftoo19 · 24/10/2019 13:54

Mine is still coming out now and DS is fast approaching 9 months Sad

SoyDora · 24/10/2019 13:58

snowball28 mine has been worse third time too.

hellotabitha it’s not meant to shed... it happens to some people but not others.

CallieCat19 · 24/10/2019 14:47

My hair loss was at its worst about 5-6 months. I’m at 8 months now and it’s started slowing down

GrizzlebumsMum · 24/10/2019 14:54

Nearly 11 months and mine is still coming out. Not as much as it was but still shedding enough to need to brush my hair over the bath to catch it all (I find it in my boy’s poo if I don’t try and keep it contained!)

lovesdaisy · 24/10/2019 15:17

I’d say mine lasted just a little longer than 12 months - 16 months now and my regrowth is at least 1.5 inches, MIL recently commented that it looks like I have a little bob underneath my actual hair, really pleased about that one Hmm

LittleBitAce · 24/10/2019 15:25

I shaved all mine off and started again and it's still falling out 13 months on...
