to let my daughter wear this dress as a wedding guest?

Or does it look too much like a bridesmaid/flower girl dress?

This isn't the exact dress, but it's similar. I've read threads on here about parents dressing their young daughters as bridesmaids because they're offended that they weren't chosen, and it's occurred to me I'm not really sure what the difference between a child's party dress and a bridesmaid dress is! I'm guessing it's fine because it's blue rather than white, but I just wanted to make sure.

I would go for something with a pattern to look less like a bridesmaid

I agree with this - a floral print or similar is a good choice. It's unusual for bridesmaids to wear prints.

Wtfdoipick · 22/10/2019 20:48

I wouldn't even put a 5/6 year old in it, that's not a party dress it is a bridesmaid dress

Something like this would be better, nice but not OTT

EstebanTheMagnificent · 22/10/2019 20:50

No. Way over the top.

fourfuckssake4 · 22/10/2019 20:51

No

DorisDances · 22/10/2019 20:51

Print dress with a white cardi is the classic failsafe look!

AlicePL · 22/10/2019 20:51

Wow, strong consensus! Grin I won't let her wear it. Thank you all for the replies. I'm relieved I asked - I'd hate it if people thought I was dressing her as a wannabe bridesmaid!

nope, unless the adults are in ball gowns, that's a bridesmaid dress.

How old is your DD? Something like [[https://uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_3,mon_3.3/7141630234 this dress][ would work, with perhaps a white cardie/shrug.

Mummyshark2018 · 22/10/2019 20:52

I thought it was a Cinderella dress. Too tacky for a wedding imo.

Wurfit · 22/10/2019 20:53

Two small girls (sisters) turned up at mine in something similar and I was delighted.
I didn't have any little bridesmaids though (youngest BM was 11, eldest was 46), which might colour my opinion.

holidays987 · 22/10/2019 20:53

It's too much. Not quite right at a wedding guest outfit. Could you find something a bit simpler, but still pretty

Shortfeet · 22/10/2019 20:54

Im a lone voice saying I think it’s fine !
As long as she is no older than 6

MrsJoshNavidi · 22/10/2019 20:55

Another no. It's a ballgown/princess/party/bridesmaid dress.

Actually I wouldn't even have it as a bridesmaid dress at my wedding - too chavvy.

EdWinchester · 22/10/2019 20:55

Don't let her wear it, or go near a naked flame if she does.

escapade1234 · 22/10/2019 20:56

Er, no. Don’t be that mother.

DropZoneOne · 22/10/2019 20:56

Nooo, too bridesmaidy. Something patterned, not plain and avoid tulle. Something like the pic (from Monsoon). You can usually find plenty second hand on ebay.

No

AfterSchoolWorry · 22/10/2019 20:57

Ah no.

Gazelda · 22/10/2019 20:57

I'm afraid that is 100% bridesmaid.

GrouchyKiwi · 22/10/2019 21:02

Agree with the consensus.

Go for a patterned dress. Flower girls/bridesmaids hardly ever wear patterns so you're generally safe with those.

MintyMabel · 22/10/2019 21:02

It depends on the bride. I wouldn’t have bothered one bit if a little girl wanted to wear such a lovely dress to a wedding.

emilybrontescorsett · 22/10/2019 21:02

I agree with most of the other posters.
It's too Disney princess/bridesmaid.

BeesKnees4 · 22/10/2019 21:02

@disgruntled
That’s really nice 😍

MintyMabel · 22/10/2019 21:03

Something like the pic (from Monsoon)

This is very similar to the dresses my actual bridesmaids wore. (They chose them)

DonKeyshot · 22/10/2019 21:04

That's a very pretty dress at a very reasonable price, DisgruntledGuineaPig. It would be ideal for a wedding and numerous other events including Christmas festivities.
