Likelihood of being caught driving with no licence?

Currently don’t have a driving licence.

What is the likelihood of being stopped by the police?

Myself and my husband are both insured on the car.

I know it’s unreasonable, just wondering how likely it is?

How can you be insured if you don't have a licence? What happened to it?

Ringsender2 · 20/10/2019 23:02

You're not actually insured if you don't have a license - i.e. the insurance is invalidated.

MuchBetterNow · 20/10/2019 23:03

Your insurance is completely void if you're not licensed to drive. Don't be a reckless, selfish arse hole. If you go ahead I hope you get caught in a heartbeat.

Tojigornot · 20/10/2019 23:03

Your insurance won’t be valid if you don’t have a license. Why don’t you have a licence?

Jupiters · 20/10/2019 23:03

You won't be insured if you don't have a licence, as it will not be valid.

JuniperBeer · 20/10/2019 23:04

Let me know your vehicle registration and I’ll check the likelihood for you.

Throwaway283833848 · 20/10/2019 23:04

Yes I know it’s invalid.

As someone is legally insured on the car I’m just wondering if it would flag up at all? As in as it’s actually insured by someone the police would be less likely to stop it?

Your insurance would be invalid for a start.

YABVU, and you know this.

So nobody has any idea on the likelihood so far?

TheFaerieQueene · 20/10/2019 23:05

Who knows if you will be caught. I’m 100% certain you are a dick if you do it.

clpsmum · 20/10/2019 23:05

Who cares how likely it is, it's illegal.

Hingeandbracket · 20/10/2019 23:05

To answer op’s question I reckon you have pretty much zero chance of being caught. Judging by the standards of driving I see every single day you are far from the only one driving without a licence.

Proseccoinamug · 20/10/2019 23:06

You’ll find out if you have an accident OP because then you’ll be likely to face a custodial sentence. HTH.

Didn’t you have to give your licence number to take out insurance?

TheWolves · 20/10/2019 23:06

It really depends on the frequency and type of driving you are doing. If it's a short occasionally rural journey with no traffic management cameras, probably unlikely.

puppyconfetti · 20/10/2019 23:06

To answer your question it is very unlikely that you would be caught unless you committed a road traffic offence (and the police stopped you) or if you were involved in an accident.

You are correct In saying ad their is a valid policy on the car it would not flag up as uninsured.

Throwaway283833848 · 20/10/2019 23:06

Who cares how likely it is, it's illegal.

No shit Sherlock

Babynut1 · 20/10/2019 23:06

How can you not have a licence? Has it expired? Is it a provisional? Do you just not have one at all?

Sparklesocks · 20/10/2019 23:07

I assume you don’t mean just practicing with a licensed driver in the car, but actively driving on the roads unlicensed?

How are you insured without a license? And it’s completely void if you do, so any accidents would not be covered.
I suppose likelihood depends on how ‘good’ a driver you are, but it would obviously be absolutely foolish and dangerous - both to yourself and others as your skills/experience haven’t been certified to a legal level.

MrTumblePulledAKnifeOnMe · 20/10/2019 23:07

Police can pull you over for a multitude of reasons, brake light out, dirty number plate etc. Could be something minor that you don't think about.

isabellerossignol · 20/10/2019 23:07

No one has any idea on the likelihood because its not really possible to measure. It's going to depend on so many things - the policing strategy in your area, the resources they have, whether or not you end up involved in an accident etc

But it's illegal, why would you do it? Why not just apply for a license?

puppyconfetti · 20/10/2019 23:08

Didn’t you have to give your licence number to take out insurance?

I have never had to do this. People always say this on insurance threads but I have held insurance, including f a business policy, for a good 20 years and not once been asked for my driving licence number.

Nicknacky · 20/10/2019 23:08

Why are you driving with no licence? And no, you don’t have a valid policy of insurance.

OwlinaTree · 20/10/2019 23:08

Problem is, if you are involved in an accident it could be very serious consequences for you, even if you didn't cause the accident. You can't control how others drive around you.

Obsidian77 · 20/10/2019 23:09

I think the likelihood varies according to the reason you don't have a licence.
If you live somewhere rural and everyone knows you lost your licence for drink-diving, there's about a 100% chance someone will shop you.
