Likelihood of being caught driving with no licence?

Throwaway283833848 · 20/10/2019 23:01

Currently don’t have a driving licence.

What is the likelihood of being stopped by the police?

Myself and my husband are both insured on the car.

I know it’s unreasonable, just wondering how likely it is?

SunshineDays2019 · 20/10/2019 23:41

Why did you start this ridiculous thread? Is this what mumsnet has come to? Hmm

hellenbackagen · 20/10/2019 23:41

We refer to "the" Facebook and "the"twitters as it's ironic. A joke . Fb and social media is the bane of most response cops life so it's a running joke .

puppyconfetti · 20/10/2019 23:42

@bakedbeanzontoast

it did indeed, that was the response I got when I asked why I'd been pulled over. It was only my name on the insurance and I was the cars owner. I have no reason to lie

How long were they following you and what made them call your insurance company before stopping you?

Thankful2020 · 20/10/2019 23:42

“Let me know your vehicle registration and I’ll check the likelihood for you”

🤣🤣

Cryalot2 · 20/10/2019 23:43

A woman now deceased drove all her life and never had one.
She was stopped a couple of times but ssid she was her sister . They look alike and she got off . No one knew otherwise. She was a cautious, good driver.

hellenbackagen · 20/10/2019 23:44

Anpr and more important pnc say WHO The Insurance is down to

Jesus really ? If the insurance is down to John Smith and a woman is driving the. I'd pull that car pretty fast .

MuchBetterNow · 20/10/2019 23:44

Yeah, as a high court judge moonlighting as a neurosurgeon I totally get where you're coming from Police Officer Back.

Sobeyondthehills · 20/10/2019 23:45

In 20 odd years of driving I have been pulled over 4 times,

Only one of them I should have been able to predict

Icanflyhigh · 20/10/2019 23:45

@hellenbackagain

I got stopped on a random check thing, and before I'd got out of my van they knew I wasnt the registered owner, they also knew the names of the persons insured to drive (of which I was one of them!)
So yeah I'm with you on this, and I'm certain I wasn't stopped because my van was almost 40 years old and looked like it was falling apart!!!🙈😂

safariboot · 20/10/2019 23:45

If the registered keeper is licensed and insured, you're unlikely to get stopped on any given day unless your vehicle condition or your bad driving gives police cause to stop you. But if you carry on like this, it's not a matter of if you'll get stopped, but when, because sooner or later you'll either be pulled over or be in a crash and it will all come out.

You're also a complete and utter arsehole with no regard for the law or anybody else if you drive unlicensed and uninsured.

Your husband is also breaking the law by allowing somebody without a license and without valid insurance to drive his car. When you get caught he is getting 6 points on his license, possibly more, and a fine. Does he know that?

ElizaDee · 20/10/2019 23:46

I'd assume anpr might flag up if the car is registered to you but you are disqualified for example. It won't flag up for insurance if you have it.

puppyconfetti · 20/10/2019 23:47

Jesus really ? If the insurance is down to John Smith and a woman is driving the. I'd pull that car pretty fast

Shit you must be really busy then. I'm the policyholder but DH often drives me car; are you 'pulling' him?

Come on. The police don't pull cars over if the insurance policy holder is male and a female is driving.

Perunatop · 20/10/2019 23:47

Why not just take a few lessons and take the driving test? (assuming you have not been disqualified).

hellenbackagen · 20/10/2019 23:48

Yes ican

Cos the police can check all that with a simple pnc and hash dl check .

This thread is making me lol. I'm to bed . Nite all. Drive safe !

fuzzyduck1 · 20/10/2019 23:48

If the car is not in your name and road legal then you will probably get away with it but if you have an accident then your ducked.

OnTopOfTheWardrobe · 20/10/2019 23:50

No, you won't be stopped just for not being insured. How would they know it was you driving? But it's a bloody stupid thing to do, and insurance will not pay out if anything happens (least of your worries, to be honest).
If you "currently" don't have a license, does that mean it was removed for some reason?

hellenbackagen · 20/10/2019 23:52

puupy

The insured parties are named in the insurance which is given when asking for a pnc check. If there were two named drivers fine .
If there was one , and it was say - a man but a woman was driving I'd pull that car to check it.

That is actually my job . I take uninsured and unlicensed drivers off the roads as well as loads of other stuff that attempts to keep law abiding people safe .

Lucylou321 · 20/10/2019 23:54

Another police officer here... we can actually do instant checks on our radios to find out who vehicles are registered and insured to, takes seconds and can be done just with the vehicles registration number so doesn't even need to involve pulling the vehicle over or talking to the driver. So for the PP that accused another PP of lying- it's perfectly possible.

It obviously depends on the OP's reason for not having a license as to the likelihood of being caught but if for example the OP has been done for drink drive or similar it's quite possible that her mugshot is appearing on briefings that go out to local officers everyday advising them of the fact she could be driving without a license and in which vehicle etc. In which case there's a strong possibility of her being caught. If the OP has no license for a different reason there's every chance she could drive on our roads and go completely unnoticed unfortunately.

SummerBreezemakesmefeelfine · 20/10/2019 23:54

My DS forgot to pay her road tax and was picked up on a Police camera driving to uni. The road tax was £30 due to the car she drives, but the fine much more. She was insured and has a clean license, but neither stopped her getting the fine and she would not have been covered if anything had happened.

Not worth getting caught out, she won't make the same mistake again.

BlueBirdGreenFence · 20/10/2019 23:57

Our local police fb page is full of their arrests for the day and basic bants so not sure why HellinBack is getting such a hard time.

hellenbackagen · 20/10/2019 23:58

Thanks lucy
I'm a cop of a lot of years and I definitely do know who to stop....Intel and coppers nose.

We seize a car per shift for this exact thing and I do wonder how people would react if they were hit or worse by the op. 🤷🏻‍♀️

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/10/2019 00:01

I didn't realise people would be pulled over for not matching the sex/appearance of the person named on the insurance!

My DF's car is insured (expensively!) so anybody can drive it fully comp, and my own policy lets me drive any car third party only. I don't do it often, but it's come in handy in emergencies once or twice.

everythingisginandroses · 21/10/2019 00:03

*@MNHQ A few months ago I posted a thread on here asking for help in identifying a school uniform because I had safeguarding concerns about a pupil I had met but was uncertain which school they attended in a large city. My thread was shut down in less than 5 minutes because of other posters thinking I was maybe a stalker/nutter/abusive ex or something like that.

I get why that happened, but here we have a thread where someone is asking about the likelihood of committing a crime and getting away with it, and thread is still going strong 120-odd messages in - seriously? Hmm

*I got my answers, thank you to those that responded. I wrote my letter and got a thank you from the school, end of story.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/10/2019 00:04

(I'm not saying that ANPR isn't good, and that you shouldn't be pulling people over, just that I can imagine some circumstances where it might flag, but actually be fine. I'm very pleased that you're working to keep uninsured people off the road and everybody safe. Smile)

hellenbackagen · 21/10/2019 00:05

Polka
The pnc check would tell any cop checking that that is the case .
We have access to insurance details via radio within seconds.

If it's an expensive car drug dealing at 3am it might get stopped. If your on the school run unlikely unless there is intel or a
Cop decided to do a random check. Cos we can do stuff like that 🤔
