Likelihood of being caught driving with no licence?

Currently don’t have a driving licence.

What is the likelihood of being stopped by the police?

Myself and my husband are both insured on the car.

I know it’s unreasonable, just wondering how likely it is?

Why are so many people these days so rude and disbelieving. If @hellenbackagen says they are a police officer then why all the disrespect!

The link above includes this:
You’re most likely to come into contact with ANPR technology being used by car parks, law enforcement teams and Government agencies such as the DVLA and DVSA

Yep, DVLA!

Data is shared with police!

Fuck me you're stupid and inconsiderate, how dare you put other people at risk by driving without a licence or insurance. You say you have insurance, but it's not worth the fucking paper it's written on should you plough into another car without a valid driving licence.
How about considering the people you could kill VS getting caught.

Greatnorthwoods · 21/10/2019 00:18

The chance is pretty low in all reality

Evilmorty · 21/10/2019 00:23

I only know one (absolute dickhead) who was driving with no license. She was caught 3 times and got fines, points on any subsequent license, and the car was impounded. This was in the 90’s.

She wasn’t a disgusting person.

Evilmorty · 21/10/2019 00:23

She was a disgusting person. Written correctly and for emphasis Grin

caringcarer · 21/10/2019 00:24

If you don't have a valid licence you should not be driving. You are not safe to drive. How would you feel if you killed someones child?

Ohthatsfabulousdarling · 21/10/2019 00:25

@HugoSpritz ....and I really hope they do pass any information on that they have!

Evilmorty · 21/10/2019 00:27

I’ve also been hit by a person with no license and I reported their sorry arse.

If you are planning to do this OP, you’ll just have to accept you are a selfish cunt I’m afraid.

Evilmorty · 21/10/2019 00:29

You sound like someone who knows some crims, why not ask them how likely it would to get caught?

Defender90 · 21/10/2019 00:30

As the victim of an uninsured driver (only caught because he came back to see whet damage he done).

You are scum (if this post is every true not some stupid troll).

My insurance rocketed and there was nothing that could be done to him because he claimed he still stayed with his Mummy and didn't have any belongings that could be seized to compensate.

I've been driving 20 years and stopped by police twice. Once for fog lights being on (fault with car) and once because they thought the car was driven by someone without a licence.

Being insured and taxed doesn't mean you won't be stopped.

EmilyStar · 21/10/2019 00:44

Thousands of people are driving with expired photo card licences. This should be renewed every 10 years but many people don’t check expiry dates. An expired photo card licence will not invalidate your insurance policy

Hmm I think the DVLA would disagree with that.

I’ve recently had a letter from the DVLA reminding me that my photocard driving licence is due to expire, and the letter says that I won’t be allowed to drive if I don’t renew my licence. And of course, me driving without a valid driving licence would automatically invalidate my car insurance.

Although, as DH and I are both insured on the car, and DH’s licence won’t expire for another few years, I’m not convinced ANPR would flag it up if I did drive on an expired licence. Not that that’s going to happen as I’ll be renewing my licence before it expires.

ineedaholidaynow · 21/10/2019 00:54

Why are you asking OP?

Bunnyfuller · 21/10/2019 00:58

Also police and we have more than ANPR. Lots more. It is only used for a genuine policing purpose, but there’s a lot of shiny IT at our fingertips now. We can run lots of checks on you on our job mobile in my force.

Obviously we don’t publicise all our gubbins, or the bad naughty people might find out what we’re doing.

How many of you have a peep on your phone while stuck in traffic? Just remember cops commute to work too ☺️, and sitting in traffic gets a bit boring. It’s nice to remember a couple of number plates.

See you in the morning 😘

Hello all

Thank you for your opinions.

Unfortunately this post is about my sister. I’m very close to her and very disappointed.

She seems fairly adamant that she is going to do it. Very helpful to know that her husband could be in serious trouble. I will show her this thread.

Thanks all.

Bluerussian · 21/10/2019 01:05

I've no idea about the likelihood but I had a friend who never passed her driving test, despite a few attempts, and drove anyway. I remember telling her that insurance would not be valid but she took no notice. I have a feeling she had some documents in her sister's name - ha! So if she had an accident which was her fault, her sister would be to blame for it. Charming, not.

However she got away with it. I'm quite sure if I had ever done anything like that, I would never have got away with it and I'd have been too nervous anyway.

So please don't do it (if you were thinking of it).

Greatnorthwoods · 21/10/2019 01:08

You are not safe to drive

Disagree, you can be a competent and safe driver without the paperwork.

DuckWillow · 21/10/2019 01:12

I know who you are now Hellenbackagen....when did you change names?

OP YABU but you already know that.

If you’re in an accident it’s going to be bad for you and the other driver.

Weymo · 21/10/2019 01:12

My ex is 50 and has been driving without a licence since he was 21.
He does tend to buy the same model of car though, and just swap the plates round or something.
Doesn’t need tax as they’re classic cars and prior to that he made fake tax discs.
Insurance he got a card out in his ex girlfriend’s name then used my address to register the cars at.

Never mind the likelihood of getting stopped, unless you enjoy the frisson of being a criminal, you’ll have to live with it the rest of your life if you’re involved in an accident that slices a child’s whole jaw off onto the tarmac and she’ll never speak again. You’ll never forget her face until you die.

So just get a licence.

Travis1 · 21/10/2019 01:28

@Throwaway283833848 you can tell your sister about the gent I recently encountered in our local sheriff court(I was observing custody cases waiting on a family member being presented 🙄) and one gentleman had chosen to take his wife’s car because she was too rough to drive and he didn’t want to miss a shift at work. He didn’t even make it out of his street before he was stopped for a ‘routine document check’ this was at 6.30am.

So she might get away with it but she’s also just as likely to get caught.

Personally OP in your situation I would report her if I knew she was out driving. I assume if she’s previously been insured on the car then her license has been revoked for some reason.

overnightangel · 21/10/2019 01:43

@Throwaway283833848

“Dear Mumsnet
Is it ok to use a machine I don’t have a licence for that could literally endanger thousands of people’s lives using similar machines and passers by if I did use it”

... Is what your original post should have been

Graphista · 21/10/2019 01:46

If she’s no licence she’s not insured if she’s not insured the cameras on police vehicles, speed cameras and certain types of traffic lights iirc will flag up her car as likely being driven uninsured. It’s no longer the case that if one of the drivers are insured it won’t be checked, my brothers a police officer and we were discussing this type of thing recently and he said if the car is accessible to a banned driver, at least in his force (but I believe other forces starting to do same) then it flags for who’s driving to be checked on the camera system.

And that’s setting aside the fact she clearly couldn’t care less about other road users or pedestrians she might hit, leave permanently disabled and who then couldn’t claim decent damages from you.

Personally I think this post is an excellent advert for the desire held by me and others that banned drivers should have their vehicles confiscated and it being made illegal for anyone to sell or let them hire one or for others to allow them access to drive one.

Derbee · 21/10/2019 01:59

If this was my sister, I would report her. You should do the same. Being involved in an accident as an uninsured driver is a big deal. She’s putting others at risk, and has a blatant disregard for public safety and decency. If you don’t report her, you are as bad as she is.

Hopefully she gets caught first time. If not, hopefully she or her husband wrap themselves around a tree without hurting any other people.

PatricksRum · 21/10/2019 02:02

How can you say you're insured to drive if you don't hold driving licenses? Confused

BasiliskStare · 21/10/2019 02:07

If she does not have a licence she should not do it - and that is it and all about it IMHO . Not playing the percentages. But I suspect you agree with that.
