Am I being lazy getting a cleaner?

Seriously considering getting a cleaner once a week for a couple of hours, mainly for en suite, kitchen , floors maybe change the bedding every 2 weeks?
I work full time leaving the house early and not getting back till after 6 then make the dinner etc and wanting to start boxing classes to loose weight.

Partner up and out at 4am and not back till after 4 - 5 days a week so is understandably knackered!

I just feel lazy because I have no kids.... I do have thyroid disease though so I can lack energy (use most of my reserve at work) and just want to have a bloody clean house but Enjoy my weekend!! can’t keep up Blush

AIBU? Do I just need to stop being lazy?!

My cleaners have always had a key and come during the week.
I particularly loved having them come when I am away on holiday and coming back to a super spotless house ( at least for half an hour)

MangoSalsa · 18/10/2019 13:04

Get a cleaner.

dreichsky · 18/10/2019 13:04

My recent cleaners have also ironed, they are so good at it and my last cleaner particularly liked doing it !!

Get a cleaner. It's just a choice about how to spend your money and time. Pay them a fair wage and don't piss them about - there are no issues here!

I don't think men would be given the same pressure ans it's not different to paying for car to be valeted, using frozen veg, getting hair dyed by professional. Enjoy your extra time!

Rubyupbeat · 18/10/2019 14:00

No way is that lazy!
I have a cleaner twice a week, I don't work and there is only myself and husband living here now, sometimes a son...
I have a largish 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom house and hate housework with a vengance.
When I worked, I had a cleaner, but when I gave up work , out of choice, I decided I should do the cleaning, well, I only lasted 2 months and then re instated her. I couldn't keep up with it. Plus, it takes me away from other things I want to do.
Dont let anyone think you are lazy, it's your choice.

I don't think so. If you are, I am! I live with just my fiancé, but we both work full time. I'm a teacher, so didn't want to spend half my weekend working and the other half cleaning. She comes once a fortnight for 3 hours and inbetween it just means I have to do minimal cleaning. It works for us.

Embracelife · 18/10/2019 17:36

Is it lazy to pay for a hair cut?
Is it lazy to pay a gardener or handy person?
Is it lazy to pay a car wash?
Do what you need. Save your free time for other stuff. Put some money to a cleaner.

JessicaRarebit · 18/10/2019 17:37

Absolutely not, you should absolutely do it OP. We have a cleaner that comes twice a week for 6 hours a week and it has made such a difference to our lives.

We’ve just gone back to having a cleaner after 3 years of renovating our flat very slowly. No point in having one while builders were in every few months. It sounds ridiculously entitled but it’s so much better for my mental health.

DH and I are both out of the house 7am - 7pm (if we’re lucky, can be closer to 8). We love to cook - it’s our wind down time together - so often it’s 8.30/9pm by the time we’re done and we’re in bed by 10.30pm. I need that 90 minutes to do e.g. laundry, reading, life admin, spend a bit of time with the cat, pay bills, maybe even (shock) watch an episode of something on TV. We used to commit half a day each weekend to cleaning but to be honest, we work damn hard and earn accordingly so why the heck shouldn’t we use our weekends to see family and friends or go to dinner or see a play or whatever? (No kids yet so these things feel like temporary pleasures!)

Basically I’m unapologetic about it Grin

Dollywilde · 18/10/2019 17:51

Sorry - rereading that it sounds like only people who earn well work hard! I am very very aware that’s not the case: what I meant was that our jobs which keep us out of the house remunerate us in a way that allows us to have a cleaner Smile

LunchBoxPolice · 18/10/2019 18:00

I’m a cleaner and I don’t think any of my customers are lazy. They have the money to pay me to do it, so why not?
If I could afford it I’d have a cleaner Grin

Reddishang · 18/10/2019 18:07

I do the job for a living i do alot of work for parents who just need a bit of me time or i do it when they are out nice to come back to a clean house too

MarshaBradyo · 18/10/2019 18:08

The answer to this question is usually no.

And definitely not for you.

kitk · 18/10/2019 18:08

If I could afford it I absolutely would. Most of us work to have a life unless we have a true vocation. If a cleaner would improve your quality of life then why wouldn't you?

Whomei · 18/10/2019 18:11

I'm seriously considering it too- I work full time (leave house 7.30, get home 6.30) and have a 1 year old and am pregnant with 2nd. Yet I still feel guilty like I should be able to manage it, possibly from previous generations being able to? I say go for it, and don't feel guilty, you're giving someone employment, which I'm sure they'll be happy about 😊

NewName73 · 18/10/2019 18:30

I have had a cleaner since I was 25.

Nothing wrong with providing employment to another person to do a job they are probably better at than you are.

If you work, all the more reason - your leisure time is valuable. But even if you don't, I think it's fine.

nicenana · 18/10/2019 18:35

I have had a cleaner for many years . Three ,morningsa week. I can honestly say I could not have given my kids the lifestyle they had without it because I could earn maybe four times what I pay the cleaner each time she comes round. Go for it. Does it matter if people think your lazy? It’s your choice not anyone else’s . Go for it I say.
