Am I being lazy getting a cleaner?

Seriously considering getting a cleaner once a week for a couple of hours, mainly for en suite, kitchen , floors maybe change the bedding every 2 weeks?
I work full time leaving the house early and not getting back till after 6 then make the dinner etc and wanting to start boxing classes to loose weight.

Partner up and out at 4am and not back till after 4 - 5 days a week so is understandably knackered!

I just feel lazy because I have no kids.... I do have thyroid disease though so I can lack energy (use most of my reserve at work) and just want to have a bloody clean house but Enjoy my weekend!! can’t keep up Blush

AIBU? Do I just need to stop being lazy?!

What's the most precious commodity? Time. What does a cleaner give you? Time. When you hire a cleaner you're paying for time, priceless in my opinion, much more valuable than "stuff".

Maltybiscuit · 17/10/2019 20:19

Absolutely go for it OP

I have a small cleaning business and my tag line is make time for yourself

It's the best thing you'll ever do and you keep the likes of me in business so thank you.

blahblahblahblahhh · 17/10/2019 20:20

No way! I love my cleaner! I'd not eat and keep my cleaner if it came to it!
I figure my time with my kids is worth more than me cleaning - and she's way quicker than I could ever do it!

LauraMacArthur · 17/10/2019 20:23

You don't need to justify this to anyone. If you want a cleaner and you can afford it then get one.

BMW6 · 17/10/2019 20:31

I agree with PP - no business of anyone else if you want a cleaner and can afford one.

MogThoughtDarkThoughts · 17/10/2019 20:54

I very much doubt that any man has ever agonised about this sort of thing. Of course YANBU.

MsPepperPotts · 17/10/2019 21:02

There's nothing lazy about having a cleaner.
You need one to help you keep working due to your health issues.
It's a no brainer.

Ski4130 · 17/10/2019 21:11

I have a cleaner two hours a week, despite the fact I work part time, and I’m a far nicer person for it 🙂 she comes and does the floors, bathrooms, kitchen and dusting. I do bedding, washing etc etc and I spend the time I would have procrastinated about cleaning the bathrooms batch cooking and tidying. She’s definitely made life better for all of us in the house. In your shoes op I’d definitely get a cleaner!

Ski4130 · 17/10/2019 21:13

*@thisisthend

You should clean your home yourself. It is exceptionally lazy to employ someone to do basic chores, unless you are severely disabled or impaired*

You’re hilarious! Get a grip.

thisisthend · 17/10/2019 21:26

Ski4130-part time work, and a cleaner? You make the unemployed appear industrious. I assume hubby pays all the bills, whilst you just pop out babies and consider that work?

dreichsky · 17/10/2019 21:31

@thisisthend
I once didn't work and had a live in maid, it was bliss 😂

thisisthend · 17/10/2019 21:34

dreichsky-then what DID you do? Sit around all day and rot like a couch potato?

Zerrin13 · 17/10/2019 21:36

Surely the likes of us ordinary women shouldn't have cleaners. It makes women lazy in my opinion. Arnt they supposed to be for royalty and really rich women like the ones on that Housewives of Cheshire programme? OP don't you enjoy cleaning??

Xalia · 17/10/2019 21:38

Life's too short to waste time moving dust around.!!
If you can afford it go for it.

Would a man ask your question?
Go on, be a man for once Wink

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 17/10/2019 21:43

Why not if you can afford it

Even if it is down to being lazy what does it matter if you have the choice to be

dreichsky · 17/10/2019 21:44

Sit around all day and rot like a couch potato?

No sitting, no rotting. I had plenty of time to do fun stuff, that is rather the point of cleaners etc.

PinkFl · 17/10/2019 21:47

Of course you should get a cleaner!!! I really want to but find it hard to justify since I'm a SAHM. Soon as I go back to work I'm getting one!!

BlokeNumber9 · 17/10/2019 21:47

Do it. Totally do it. I employ a cleaner, no shame whatsoever, and two good things result:
(1) I get a clean flat.
(2) the cleaner earns some money.

TheGlitterFairy · 17/10/2019 21:48

God - not lazy at all! Very smart in fact as you can then spend time doing what you want to do.
I’ve had one for years - once a week for 3.5 hours; 3 hours of cleaning and 30 mins of ironing DH’s shirts. Just the 2 of us, no kids. Go for it!!

ELM8 · 17/10/2019 21:53

We had this dilemma - just two of us in the house, no kids, perfectly able but just don't like cleaning particularly.

Had a cleaner for 2 hours a week for a year now, best month I spend I think! Don't need to worry about deep cleaning the bathrooms ever as she keeps on top of them, and we just top clean everywhere else. If you can afford it why the hell not?!

Due to go on maternity leave imminently so we will need to make cut backs. I'll be cutting back on anything and everything before the cleaner goes!

ELM8 · 17/10/2019 21:53

Money.. not month Hmm

duckroll · 17/10/2019 22:01

One of the best things I’ve done for my mental and my marriage Grin

duckroll · 17/10/2019 22:02

Mental?! Mental health!!

bubbles1345786 · 17/10/2019 22:14

I think you should go for it! It makes complete sense if it will help your mental wellbeing and you can afford it.

All my friends families had cleaners growing up and my mother was such a judgmental sod about it. I never understood her attitude because she hates cleaning, is rubbish at and would waste so much time and energy complaining about the cleaning. It wasn't that her and my dad couldn't afford a cleaner either. Odd woman my mother.

So even if people do judge it's very much their issue not yours.

SallyWD · 17/10/2019 22:15

I've just got a cleaner for the first time in my life. It's wonderful! I feel like a huge weight has been taken off my shoulders.
