To ask for a brief history of netmums/mumsnet politics

I keep reading about the Troubles on netmums, how mumsnet is becoming like netmums, and people referred to as netmum types.

I've never been on netmums and have only been here about a year. Can someone enlighten me on key differences...and these mysterious troubles?

Onamat I believe it was a few of years ago. My friend died of the same thing at the same time, I couldn't bring myself to follow Zombies situation because it was killing me, seeing it all play out exactly like it did with my friend.

I had no idea the gin bottle was in honour of her! I love that.

Zombie once really helped me with an issue - I disengaged from this site for a while so I was a bit sad when I read this thread but I have had a gin on tonic tonight in her honour!

I used to post on BabyCentre, which I think is a little similar to Netmums. These were (honest to God!) the last post I read on BabyCentre and the first post I read on Mumsnet, respectively:

'Later on I'm going down the social club with my friend and her boyf. What should I wear?'

'Soon I will be going to Buckingham Palace for my husband's investiture. What should I wear?'

What a juxtaposition!

I used to do NMs but they've wrecked the site and it's now unusable.

There's less judgement on here and of course there's the swearing. The discussions on here are of a much higher quality. It could very quickly feel like an argument between hormonal teenagers in NMs.

That said the pre upgrade functionality of NMs was better than here and there were a bunch of good people on there I miss.

But I'm beginning to like this site.

@reginafelangee I haven't been on NM for many years now, but I suspect it has not changed much. Too fluffy for me.
