When posters suggest we should all grow our own food/ all farms should go organic/we should all go vegan etc I always wonder how much about british agriculture they know. A lot of land we currently use for farming is great for animals but not so great for growing crops on. If we got rid of the livestock farming around where I live in hilly north Wales, we would have a lot of empty fields with nothing in them. It's just not the right ground to grow many crops at all. All it shows when people make those sort of comments is that they have little understanding about the amount of food we would need to produce.
As for the WW2 comment, my grandma was obsessed with making sure she always had a full cupboard, and that she always had plenty if food. Her reasoning was she didn't want to be hungry again. Many children after ww2 were malnourished. It wasnt some glory days of british independence and self sufficiency, it was hunger, rickets and poor health.

I must imagined all the crap along Whitehall and in Trafalgar Square then.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 18:33

And all the tents left at Marble Arch last time (also loads of rubbish).

Realitysucks · 18/10/2019 18:33

Being pregnant I got to work from home that day, result! Sorry just saying 🤣🤣🤣

truthfairy · 18/10/2019 18:35

@lordproffekkothepenquinphd I think so, here they are cleaning up marble arch metro.co.uk/2019/04/26/extinction-rebellion-clean-climate-protests-finish-9321704/

rainingagainandagain · 18/10/2019 18:36

Made me LOL when the guy was pulled off the top of the train.

But yep, they are absolute morons and are not doing the cause any good at all.

It's also very dangerous what they did.

Yesterday I heard someone call them 'a bunch of over-privileged, spoilt, bratty, middle class twats with a trust fund.' Which pretty much sums up most of them. And the fact that it was fairly ordinary working class people being affected made the shit hit the fan.

Of COURSE climate change is real, and needs to be addressed, but these arseholes are not helping the cause at ALL.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 18:37

Nah that graffiti was there for ages! I walk through there twice a day.

Texakana1 · 18/10/2019 18:38

I don't know what the fuss is all about. I often travel on the top of trains. There is more room and fresh air. There are no seats inside anyway and the ticket-collector rarely checks if I have paid.I have saved enough on train fares to buy a little pied a terre in the 13th arrondisment.

Celestine70 · 18/10/2019 18:41

They are going about things the wrong way, but the planet IS dying. Humans will die but the planet will recover once we are extinct.

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 18/10/2019 18:43

*If any of the ER protestors had a job they’d appreciate just how stupid their action are

Instead they are happy to sponge off the state claiming benefits that hard working tax payers pay for and their response is to stop them from going about their daily business and getting to their employment

Police should have a zero tolerance practice with them. Taser them helpless and put them in prison. Fucking cretins*

a) You know this thing called annual leave exists
b) Then we would be a dictatorship, not a democracy with a right to peaceful protest

Candle1000 · 18/10/2019 18:43

But you could equally say he was attempting to fend off someone he perceived could be a threat to his safety

His decision to stand on top of a train can hardly be described as safe , the idiot put himself in danger in the first place.

Sweetchicken · 18/10/2019 18:43

This is the sad reality of protests that are desperately trying to put across an important message. Anyone who might be vaguely interested is completely put off by the dickheads. They think they're being "anarchists" but they're just being arseholes.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/10/2019 18:47

How did all the cretins get to where they’re protesting.........many by train/tube I’m guessing. They clearly have too much time on their hands.

kateandme · 18/10/2019 18:59

i agree with everyone on here.but i hated seeing th videos of them then beating the man on the floor.they are in the right to drag them off.but then to beat them.no.

curlykaren · 18/10/2019 19:12

Jeeez, the cliche regarding the protesters not having jobs or needing to get jobs is so tired that you should be embarrassed to use it!

1forAll74 · 18/10/2019 19:22

Was hoping the train would have moved off, flinging that guy off the top.!

Kidlacky · 18/10/2019 19:41

Londoners arent human , theres something missing ...... LOL. I,m not joking , urban humans , are Zoo animals. lol..... sorry , my personal observation..... I lived there for ten years.

ShirleyPhallus · 18/10/2019 19:43

@Kidlacky how kind of you to have registered to MN only yesterday with the intention of posting goady comments on every thread

Kidlacky · 18/10/2019 19:47

ok, have the world of only the opinions you like, i,ll go away you can live in "happy world" sorry. You dont like me, fair enough. I wont read all your posts and then asses and critisise you. I,m just speaking my mind, freely , you dont like it , leave.

Kidlacky · 18/10/2019 19:49

its not my intention, its your perception.

RedDogsBeg · 18/10/2019 19:49

What a coherent contribution Kidlacky, might be best to take your own advice and leave MN if you can't cope with having your posts criticised and assessed.

littlepaddypaws · 18/10/2019 19:49

it's an open forum kid you're always going to offend someone on here.

Kidlacky · 18/10/2019 19:52

ok, London makes people less like human animal beings and more like Zoo animals , observe them, lol... you will see , sheep on london bridge , and ants in Trafalgar square. No im not goading, i,m telling the truth , very different things indeed. I can goad, but i dont.

Lincolnfield · 18/10/2019 19:57

It’s interesting that I’ve just been in Milan where the smog and respiratory problems are off the scale. When the smog gets too bad they close the city to traffic for a day to try and ease it. There are no climate protests going on there. The general level of poverty in Northern Italy doesn’t allow people the luxury to do anything other than keep working to provide for their families and keep a roof over their heads.

The UK has invested heavily in addressing this country’s carbon footprint which cannot be said for the USA - main climate change deniers - or countries including China and India who, frankly, don’t care.

Interesting that the XR mob prefer to target this country where there is more tolerance and the police exercise more restraint. There is a surprising lack of ‘action’ in the biggest polluting countries. Maybe because protesters there get shot.

Mrspenfold123 · 18/10/2019 19:58

Truth fairy
I’m bloody annoyed with them.
Climate change is an important subject to address.
What these idiots have done is pissed of the general public and put back the cause by a year after it was getting some traction.

If you think that isn’t true, read the overwhelming balance of responses on here.

Anarchic anger, disruption of commuters and celebs flying in from the US to join in isn’t the approach that will persuade the general public to take action.
