Everything else apart, I'm wondering how 'ppeatfruit' imagines all the unemployed people in places like Canning Town are going to get to their places of work on these hypothetical farms?

Perhaps he/she would suggest they should be made to leave their families and their lives behind and go to live in some sort of rural workhouse?

What does it matter eh ppeatfruit? After all they're only the unemployed. It's not like they're some sort of brave band of eco warriors, is it?

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 18/10/2019 15:26

littlepaddypaws you could do a teensy bit of research and find out what activism, protest, political pressure and direct action is taking place in countries like China, USA, India, Australia, Brazil and so on.

Also check out the Great Green Wall in China:

JamesBlonde1 · 18/10/2019 15:35

Good for the East Enders not putting up with this shite. Shut the ER down straight away, get to work, job done.

RedDogsBeg · 18/10/2019 15:58

They must walk or cycle the many miles with their knapsacks on their backs.

Perhaps he/she would suggest they should be made to leave their families and their lives behind and go to live in some sort of rural workhouse?

That sounds like an option, or perhaps they would be expected to just bung up plastic tents like the eco warriors do, which they then leave for someone else to dispose of/clear up.

What does it matter eh ppeatfruit? After all they're only the unemployed. It's not like they're some sort of brave band of eco warriors, is it?

I couldn't agree with you more PigsDOfly and they wonder why people have no time for them, their actions or their arguments.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 17:18

My friend tried to take a photo of the red robed whatever-they-ares in Trafalgar sq. but their ‘minder’ said not to because they were ‘resting’ - only allowed to take photos when they are ‘parading’.

Geez Louise 🙄

Pliudev · 18/10/2019 17:41

Milicent72. I couldn't agree more. Obviously the climate crisis needs to gain as much attention and action as possible. But when I saw them dressing up in red and painting their faces I realised that, however serious the issues are, the campaign is being hi-jacked by the drama queens who just turn out for the excitement. I read that the majority disagreed with the tube train action but a small group went ahead anyway. It must be sickening for those legitimately involved to see this lot alienating the public. I fear it will get worse.

Oscarsdaddy · 18/10/2019 17:48

If any of the ER protestors had a job they’d appreciate just how stupid their action are

Instead they are happy to sponge off the state claiming benefits that hard working tax payers pay for and their response is to stop them from going about their daily business and getting to their employment

Police should have a zero tolerance practice with them. Taser them helpless and put them in prison. Fucking cretins

truthfairy · 18/10/2019 17:49

For info, the tube train action was not approved by XR and was done by a couple of rogue members, see statement here m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10212848095431601&id=1665584510 It was certainly badly thought through and I understand people's frustration but I am constantly astonished that people misunderstand that XR are not attacking individual people's behaviour, but are engaging in civil disobedience in order to cause maximum disruption, to get governments to take more action to avoid tipping points in ecological collapse. If they all sat around peacefully in Parliament Square it would have been barely reported. All of you who attack them for this might take a moment to wonder what you would have said to civil rights activists, or suffragettes. Are they all perfect citizens, no, do they have issues with diversity, yes, but why those of us who are doing so little want to sit on the sidelines and sneer and name call people who are risking their personal liberty in a cause which - unless you are a climate change denier - you must know risks the jobs, homes and livelihoods of millions of people within decades. Why assume they are lazy, or have no job? Many of them will have taken annual leave, perhaps they work flexi time. What are you all doing? Do you honestly think doing a bit of recycling and using public transport comes anywhere close to making any difference whatsoever unless governments take action urgently?

Pliudev · 18/10/2019 17:51

Presumably you want a reaction to this Oscarsdaddy? You are joking right?

MarshaBradyo · 18/10/2019 17:53

Blimey at these posts. Ridiculous.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 17:54

It they came up with the idea then back-pedalled when they realised that it was counter productive. So if some people want ahead then it’s still on them.

Instead of fannying around Trafalgar Square dressed like the backing singers from Dr and the Medics why not so something practical? It only pisses off ‘Ordinary’ Londoners, takes police off the streets, blocks emergency services and leaves behind loads of crap for someone else to tidy up.

FlyingPenguine · 18/10/2019 17:57

They should spend time outside the chinese and indian embassies, target those who pollute the most. But they just want to take the piss and mess around being arseholes.

Kidlacky · 18/10/2019 17:57

look to paris, thats a proper protest, 1 year of it and it not even televised , they do weekends , so they can still earn there money. As mothers, surely our kids futures are most important, the cause is real, they way its being done, makes it look like the oil companies are behind it, trying to black mark eviromental protesters with the public. Why not attack the companies that are doing this to the planet? Why the tube? I recon this is all set up by big business, its backed by the media , some, and the bbc. BUT THE PLANET IS GOING TO BLOW. thats a fact , a point that people seem to be missing on here. Money cant be eaten , to quote an old Indian proverb. They should be stopping bulldoser and facking , why not protest there against the envirmental damage? Thing is people are thinking about it and we are discussing it. So they are winning.

bossybloss · 18/10/2019 18:00

Many ER protestors do have jobs and I do support some of what they are doing, but I totally deplore the situation at Canning Town...as others have said , electric public transport filled to the brim with commuters really is the most eco friendly way of getting from A to B .!

SpinneyHill · 18/10/2019 18:02

Sums it up quite well

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 18:03

The fuckers even got in the way for people (ie me) trying to walk to the sodding hospital. Wafting up and down Whitehall like farts in a trance.

Teacher22 · 18/10/2019 18:05

“BUT THE PLANET IS GOING TO BLOW. thats a fact , ”

No it’s not. There is no ‘crisis’ but there is mass hysteria.

It would be funny if the nutters were not so frightening.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 18:07

It might blow up a bit - actually more likely go phhhhttttt - when it eventually crashes into the sun. Now that’s gonna happen.

MrsBadcrumble123 · 18/10/2019 18:17

Totally agree OP! Im not thinking about the environment I’m thinking what a bunch of toffee-nosed tossers these people are! Did you see the litter they left behind after their protest?!

earnshaw47 · 18/10/2019 18:22

what is the point, I think we have all got the message now but for a start their demands are just not feasible, we need cars, planes etc, what would happen if they all stopped, plus our emissions are about 1% compared to China which is about 30 so I suggest they go there and stop disrupting our lives , enough is enough, losing patience now

Mrspenfold123 · 18/10/2019 18:22

Their branding is terrible.
Ask yourselves if you want to get the general public to lobby the politicians for more environmental action which is more powerful:
(1) A resolute young girl striking from school and sharing the message “Lack of action isstealing my generation’s future”
(2) Rent-mob deciding “You can’t go to work today because I’m angry”

Once you’ve answered that question you’ll understand that XR have destroyed the progress that was made on public awareness and support of this issue that had been made over the previous year.

Misguided to say the least.

NewName73 · 18/10/2019 18:22

There is no ‘crisis’

Errr .... YES THERE IS

truthfairy · 18/10/2019 18:24

Mrsbadcrumble123 yes here it is. What you saw was a fake I'm afraid. Check your source.

You too @LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD they always clear up after themselves

Protestors climb on train
Ihaventgottimeforthis · 18/10/2019 18:26

I think if XR reps read this thread they would learn a lot about how their actions are missing the mark quite extensively in a lot of cases.
People are talking, but not about the climate crisis, a lot of people are still happily burying their heads in the sand about that and instead taking the piss out of the people who are protesting.
What Greta Thunberg is doing does seem to be chiming a lot better.
There's always going to be unpleasant arseholes who DGAF about the kind of planet future generations are going to be trying to live on, but there's always those. I just wonder what they will feel in the future.
