It was a stupid, stupid stunt. I don't agree with the methods that XR are employing. It's pointless and will not achieve what they are trying to achieve.

However, pulling him off the train or even trying to pull him off was equally stupid. Everything else was a consequence of that. His kicking was stupid. The mob beating he got was horrendous though.

Is that what this country has descended into?

Samcro · 17/10/2019 15:59

someone being beaten is wrong, but I can understand why people are so angry.

PreseaCombatir · 17/10/2019 16:02

There were four stabbings in one day last Thursday in London, please don’t act shocked that someone who kicked got kicked back.

PreseaCombatir · 17/10/2019 16:05

And while these stabbings are happening all over London, these selfish pricks are pulling the Met off the streets to assist the City of London police.

Dapplegrey · 17/10/2019 16:10

I couldn’t see from the video I watched how badly the protestor who was pulled off got kicked or whether his protectors held off the kickers.

Justanotherlurker · 17/10/2019 16:10

Well Brussles and the rest of Europe have been a lot less restraint, so our country hasn't really descended anywhere.

tumbleisatwat · 17/10/2019 16:11

Those four standings are highly unlikely to have been carried out by the average commuter though.

They'll be personal and done within specific contexts- disputes over drugs, territory or domestic violence sadly.

Mob beatings at seven in the morning during the commute- that's something wholly new.

Dapplegrey · 17/10/2019 16:13

So is standing on trains at rush hour stopping people getting to work.

tumbleisatwat · 17/10/2019 16:15

So?

Does not excuse what happened.

It was straight out of A Handmaids Tale.

HarryElephante · 17/10/2019 16:17

Raising awareness.

An inconvenient truth.

I back them.

PreseaCombatir · 17/10/2019 16:17

It descended into violence because HE was violent. If he had just gotten down I don’t believe it would have played out the way it did.

HarryElephante · 17/10/2019 16:18

It's pointless and will not achieve what they are trying to achieve

What are they trying to achieve?

Justanotherlurker · 17/10/2019 16:19

It was straight out of A Handmaids Tale.

And the Demonstrators where straight out of idiocracy, every one can make pseudo intellectual comparisons.

tumbleisatwat · 17/10/2019 16:22

Unless we count climbing onto a train as violent, the person trying to drag him off the train instigated the violence.

I'm amazed that people can shrug this off so easily.

We truly have got the government we deserve.

PreseaCombatir · 17/10/2019 16:26

The person trying to drag him off the train didn’t touch him. He could have side stepped. Or moved backwards. He didn’t have to fly kick him.

PettyContractor · 17/10/2019 16:28

The UK’s whole electrical generation capacity, in all forms of power, is 85 gigawatts (59 Didcots). If we gave up using electricity entirely, it would make no difference at all to the impact of Chinese coal burning on the atmosphere

I'm actually getting a bit tired of people having a go at China for it it's coal use. I've been looking into what the UK is doing, and it turns out that it's more than most large economies. The UK was on about 24% renewable energy in the data I found. So was China. By contrast, US and Japan were at about 14%.

China may be using a lot of coal, but it's also using a lot of solar and wind. It's a a bigger country. It's doing a hell of lot better than the US and Japan at using renewables.

fromdownwest · 17/10/2019 16:28

No the person to blame is the entitled fool who thought it was a good idea to disrupt the most environmentally form of mass transit on a Thursday morning preventing many working class people from getting to work to earn money to feed their children. The echo chamber that is ER need to understand that outside of their predominantly white middle class bubble, they are perceived as trouble makes and clowns.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 17/10/2019 16:31

I wonder why they didn't do these protests in Canary Wharf/the City/banker central? Why target working class areas?

The same reason they aren't protesting about 4WD vehicles in Chelsea. Don't shit on your own doorstep.

tumbleisatwat · 17/10/2019 16:34

The protesters (stupid as they are) had already had missiles thrown at them. Been the subject of threats, shouting and swearing from the crowd below.

Watch the rest of the footage.

fromdownwest · 17/10/2019 16:36

Missiles? It was someone's breakfast roll!

Shouting and swearing? How very very troubling for them!

Dapplegrey · 17/10/2019 16:44

shouting and swearing from the crowd below.

Tumbleisatwat - are you surprised? maybe you’re in the enviable position of not having to go to work early in the morning unlike those at the tube station.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 17/10/2019 16:45

It's just fucking rent a mob and the whole cause is being forgotten about.

If more people used public transport we wouldn't have as many pollution issues, but how many more people are jumping in their cars to avoid situations like today's?

Massive own goal.

ReanimatedSGB · 17/10/2019 16:52

Actually, the video shows maybe two/three people having a bash at the protester while several more pile in to defend him from the mob. The rest of it is just confused pushing and shoving from people not close enough to see what's happening.

Amanduh · 17/10/2019 16:54

‘Mob beating’ lol a couple of people kicked him and the rest held them off.
They are pricks. I’m glad they got dragged off. Next time the trains should drive off and see what happens then. Behave stupidly and illegally and you get the consequences. Pricks.

tumbleisatwat · 17/10/2019 17:02

@Dapplegrey

Actually I had a 1.5hr (each way) into London for a few years. Started work 7:30.

So yes, I understand the frustration.

I was still horrified by this.

XR will fizzle out. I'm sure that the mentality that thinks it's ok to threaten, beat and generally abuse them will.

It's here on this thread.

We're fucked.
