I'm sure they're a plant from whoever wants to deny/ignore climate change

Lol 😂

familycourtq · 17/10/2019 14:05

I seem to be in a tiny minority that was horrified by the commuters' response, and especially the attack on the guy who was filming.

If you are, I am in the same tiny minority

SinisterBumFacedCat · 17/10/2019 14:06

So being working class gives you the right to beat up people, according to some on here. How fucking patronising, not all poor people talk with their fists.

Vulpine · 17/10/2019 14:06

Usedtoliveinw11 - and what exactly is a 'london accent'? White working class? Cos london is made up from a lot more people than that

familycourtq · 17/10/2019 14:14

A lot of protestors of this kind barely have to look after themselves (Mummy does their laundry and Daddy pays the rent on their art studio

Hilarious the irony of accusing the protesters of all sorts of isms and then come out with such an unfounded assertion based on nothing

ReanimatedSGB · 17/10/2019 14:14

And if you look at the footage, the protester is the first one to use violence - kicking at the head and face of the man trying to get him to come down. Then there's a brief scuffle which mainly consists of people trying to stop a small group of thugs from battering the silly sod.

I'm quite inclined to think that the train protesters really wanted someone to duff them up (an inclination they could indulge in a safer way by getting into BDSM) in order to portray themselves as the Most Oppressed white middle class men of the lot...

Vulpine · 17/10/2019 14:17

And that twat emily davison ruining the epsom derby that day - jeez

Justanotherlurker · 17/10/2019 14:18

Not many people are saying that, however the guy on the train kicked out first.

It was widely published in the circles yesterday that this was one of there targets. No one seemed to care about holding up people using a mode of transport (green one at that) from a deprived area getting into work. Using the tube is bad enough in rush hour, being held up by pretentious dicks who's answer almost always boils down to "we need to do something !1"!111" but fails to come up with even the most realistic solution whilst they tweet how great they are on their iphone in the queue to Pret is not winning the support it needs.

People are so desperate to deflect attention away from XR being a shower of shite

mencken · 17/10/2019 14:18

living in London isn't a lot of fun at times. While no-one should get violent, pissing off a big crowd doing something they don't enjoy (commuting) but have to do is a really good way to get beaten up.

life lesson - be sufficiently annoying and someone may well take a swing at you.

I still await XRs constructive plans. I suspect we really all will be under water before we get those.

TrickOrTreaty · 17/10/2019 14:19

So being middle class gives you the right to prevent poorer people from travelling to earn a living?

extinction rebellion = naive middle class bubble

LakieLady · 17/10/2019 14:23

President Xi will be laughing his head off in Beijing as he watches the West crumble and fall. While the PRC continues on.

They're building coal-fired power stations at such a rate in China, they probably opened at least one in the time it took that train to get out of the station this morning.

nancy75 · 17/10/2019 14:24

Don’t worry, Lewis Hamilton has found the answer to saving the world, we should all become Vegan.
Yes that’s Lewis Hamilton the formula 1 car driving private jet user who lives in another country so he doesn’t have to pay tax. Thank god we have people like him willing to do his bit & save us all.

Sarcelle · 17/10/2019 14:24

I really don't agree with them targeting public transport, a massive mistake. A lot of the commuters there at 7am will be tradespeople, or those coming off shifts. Not a rich area, hardworking and not at all prosperous. And I think a lot of the protesters are wankers.

However, the violence sickens me. Pulling the two protesters off the train is one thing, but the multitudes who got a kick in when they were on the ground were just thuggish. The veneer of civility is gossamer thin in a lot of males. They see an opportunity to pile on and go for it.

One of the protesters got the first kick in, but I think he was trying to avoid being pulled off and beaten up. You could tell they were braying for blood.

So, great that people power shifted them when the police and Mayor Khan seem impotent, but not so great when the resolution involves extreme violence, which it did. If it wasn't for the station staff and a few onlookers, they would have been seriously injured.

Let's hope this gives the protesters pause for thought.

Saucery · 17/10/2019 14:54

I’ve just watched it, expecting to see someone kick out in self defence as they are dragged backwards. Nope, thug of a protestor trying to kick commuter in the face, gets just desserts.

They don’t target banks and big business so much because they know the police will react much more promptly. Patronising rent-a-mob targeting working class people.

Sarcelle · 17/10/2019 14:58

I don't have a problem with them being pulled off the train, it is the mass kicking afterwards. It is just an excuse for some men to be violent.

MarshaBradyo · 17/10/2019 15:00

The violence is unnecessary and agree with thin veneer comment below. Thuggish behaviour.

Also agree with getting him down.

LakieLady · 17/10/2019 15:18

I'm sick of the softly softly approach towards these useless fucking lunatics and think it's time to pretend they are not there and carry on with business as usual ie drive the train with the them still on it, or water gun the fuckers off if you want to be kind about it. They are doing the opposite of what they are protesting about by trying to prevent people using public transport and making police officers get in their cars to go to their raves protests. Fucking idiots!

Wow.

I think Hong Kong might be more to your liking, @Aprillygirl. Maybe you should consider relocating.

Penners99 · 17/10/2019 15:19

The root cause of climate change (if you believe or not) is overpopulation of the planet. So how do we reduce the population by, say, 4 billion by 2050?

EowynDernhelm · 17/10/2019 15:30

I don't think the protesters picked the right target. Use of public transport should be encouraged. Where possible, targets ought to be corporations/organisations, not individuals from the working public.

I feel a bit torn over the protester kicking at the head of someone climbing towards him. It is not right to resort to violence, and if he made contact, I wouldn't have an issue with him being had up for assault. But you could equally say he was attempting to fend off someone he perceived could be a threat to his safety.

Dragging him off the train, I can see being a reasonable response, and doesn't overly bother me and I wouldn't think any action should be taken on that.

But the violence that follows is horrendous. You have one man, laying on the floor, being repeatedly kicked & punched by a mob. I'd like to see every single one of them prosecuted for assault. There is absolutely no excuse for what they have done. Just awful.

fluffycushionista · 17/10/2019 15:31

I feel sorry for a lot of people who may lose their pay from the silly actions of some fools. Protest outside the Chinese embassy, fo to China and stand on a train.
This is daft. So many people had to get taxi Uber etc. How does that help their cause?!
A lot of people on hourly contracts would have lost out in pay. Canning Town was a bit of a dodgy choice as well. If you're local you'll understand a lot of people could not afford to be delayed it wasn't about inconvenience.

Dapplegrey · 17/10/2019 15:31

The other chap in brown trousers was also pulled off but not sure what his fate was as the video I watched ended as he slid down the train.

Justanotherlurker · 17/10/2019 15:32

I think Hong Kong might be more to your liking, @Aprillygirl. Maybe you should consider relocating.

Whilst it is extreme, Brussels has been openly using water cannons on XR

Samcro · 17/10/2019 15:37

where were the police?

nancy75 · 17/10/2019 15:42

Police were probably stuck in the traffic caused by protesters disrupting the tube

Samcro · 17/10/2019 15:50

don't they have transport police though?
I really wish they would sort these "protesters" its a joke that they seem to be allowed to cause so much disruption
