What on earth to ER hope to achieve this morning?! Such arseholes

I understand the commuters' response has been "ugly", but I just don't understand why ER think disrupting public transport aids their cause. Surely they should be encouraging the use of public transport?

They really aren't going to get anywhere with causing scenes like this.

It proves they are simply anarchists and need to find a job, rather than caring one jot about the environment. Yes, they're arseholes.

Sitting by the entrance to the congestion charge zone and asking private car drivers without blue badges why they need to drive into London might be reasonable.

The tube is powered by electricity. A large proportion of that electricity is renewable. And there are no emissions locally. Goodness knows what they think they are doing.

Surely they should be encouraging the use of public transport?

My second was why the hell aren't these protestors at work.

My DH started a new job last week that has a horrible commute. He's been awake most of the night worrying about whether or not he'll be able to get into work today.

And neither of us can understand why on earth they are disrupting public transport - surely they see public transport as part of the solution to the environmental crisis?

The big problem for me with ER is how poorly their spokespersons get their message across after/during protests when interviewed by the national media.

People might (might!) be more inclined to get behind a group which has a very localised, set, stated short term aim which then leads to some of the longer term goals they describe

Instead their stunts and demos seem scattergun - it's now reached the stage where people just fear which dimension of their lives will be disrupted, rather than observe it and admire the commitment

They chose badly in going to Canning Town. And also in disrupting the form of transport they encourage us to use.

Surely they should be encouraging use of public transport? Isn’t that better then 100 extra cars on the roads? This is not going to make anyone sympathetic to their cause

It has long since been about the environment , they are just a bunch of attention seeking idiots.

Any support “normal” people had for them has been lost and they are taking away from the issue they are supposed to be helping

I've just had a business trip cancelled because of these disruptions.

My best friend is there (we don't discuss politics anymore).She's been arrested many times before. She also got thrown out if that dinner with Philip Hammond where Greenpeace disrupted wearing red dresses.

However I agree with the message behind ER, I cannot support these demos. Disrupting the Underground? Public transport that runs on electricity?
In the summer a group shut down the Docklands light railway....again a very green public transport.

They'd do better demonstrating outside the American or Chinese Embassy.

Many of the protesters have booked time off work or do shift work and are protesting when off shift.

I was quite surprised by the group beating up the protester, although I understand their frustration. Though it be great if people could band together more like that when sexual assaults etc take place on public transport.

ER got that target so wrong. Picking on workers using mass transport to get to their jobs was bound to end in violence.

I'm not, public transport can be stressful and tends to bring out the worst in people.

Yes Canning Town was a very weird choice.
