To feel really sorry for Prince Harry breaking down

At the awards show. I have been a little skeptical about him recently but my heart really went out to him when I saw the footage.

I have a feeling that having a child has triggered a huge amount of unresolved grief and anxiety. Now he has this dear little boy who is at the mercy of the tabloid press, as is his wife and there is little he can do to protect him.

It's time the press laid off. This is a human being breaking in front of us.

Agree with your last post @RoseQuartzGlow, it is flippant to say they can just stand down I suppose.

BertrandRussell · 16/10/2019 13:44

“ Yes, William and Kate fly by private jet but they dont lecture the rest of the world on climate change or boast about how their number of children is the 'right' number of children.“
No. William “lectured” about climlate change and won some sort of award for his work while K was pregnant with their 3rd child! Grin

And how do H and M fall down on doing the traditional royal thing? They seem to me to cut ribbons, open curtains and walk about gladhanding remarkably well.

LaurieMarlow · 16/10/2019 13:45

Yes, William and Kate fly by private jet but they dont lecture the rest of the world on climate change

Wills has literally just done this. Hot off the press. He's called for 'more action' on climate change.

I remember the Diana 20 years on programme when he said he'd hardly allowed himself to cry since she died. Broke my heart. Having children is a HUGE trigger for those who've endured trauma especially in childhood. Even though he's a bit more annoying these days, acting a bit A-listy, he took to me will always be the little boy walking behind his mum's coffin.

The press need to lay off his wife, they REALLY hate WOC don't they!

BertrandRussell · 16/10/2019 13:53

This is them looking at a melted glacier.
“The couple hope their visit will shine a light on the consequences of climate change”

LaurieMarlow · 16/10/2019 13:54

For good measure, they got to the glacier by helicopter!!!

Armi · 16/10/2019 14:03

Yes, @LaurieMarlow. What’s the matter? Should they have walked? I don’t really understand you - they have travelled to the glacier to draw attention to the fact that it is melting - they aren’t flying to the South of France for a little lie down at Elton’s house.

Boysey45 · 16/10/2019 14:04

I feel sorry for people on Universal Credit who are struggling and also people who have been denied the disability benefits they are entitled to. I couldn't feel sorry for an utter knobhead like PH.
Also plenty of people have lost parents or other loved ones in tragic circumstances. They wont have had anything like the support he's had.

tiajon · 16/10/2019 14:04

Maybe he was pissed

LaurieMarlow · 16/10/2019 14:05

They supposedly don't lecture on climate change.

And they've taken plenty of private planes/helicopters for leisure purposes.

Armi · 16/10/2019 14:07

Oh.. is that their official policy that they have announced, that they don’t comment on climate change or the environment? I must have missed that press release. They have frequently commented in the past.

Or is it something people on the internet have made up?

LaurieMarlow · 16/10/2019 14:10

According to lots of posters on here. Read the thread if you want the context.

The argument on here is that W&K may take private jets and so on, but that's much better than H&M doing it, because they don't lecture us on climate change.

Except that ... they do.

I agree with you

Armi · 16/10/2019 14:14

But, @LaurieMarlow , it’s not an actual, official stance, then....just an impression that a handful of people on the internet have given about them?

Right.

You know that doesn’t make it real, don’t you? Just checking.

Personally, I don’t mind what they do, provide they are raising awareness of a huge issue.

LaurieMarlow · 16/10/2019 14:15

I'm responding to people's points on a thread on AIBU.

Do you know what that is and how it works? Just checking Wink

TheFairyCaravan · 16/10/2019 14:17

Prince William lecturing on climate change with David Attenborough.

Let's no pretend he, and his family, are any better than Harry and Meghan when it comes to private jet travel and lectures because they're not.

BertrandRussell · 16/10/2019 14:17

“ Oh.. is that their official policy that they have announced, that they don’t comment on climate change or the environment? I must have missed that press release. They have frequently commented in the past.”

Of course they have, and they do and in my opinion they should. And so should H&M. Everybody should be talking about it!

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/10/2019 14:17

I really don't get this need to try and get H&M off the hook all the time.. You'll have to explain it to me. There was nothing defensible about them taking 4 private jets after telling everyone to adopt the Tesco mantra of 'every little helps' in regard to the environment. Then, to top it off, they resorted to paying their way to absolution with a contribution to some green project (or at least agreeing with it) Then later launching another private company aimed at the privileged based on the same ethos of greenwashing.

But we should just let it pass because W&K took a helicopter to an out of reach glacier?

Patroclus · 16/10/2019 14:17

I've always said it seems to be casual republicans who most defend the royals personally. Royalist lunatics are making their life a misery.

I dont remember the walking behind the coffin but I remember footage of him out with his brother and prince phillip around that time, still dressed in a suit and by a lake in scotland for the bloody media. Im his age and my brother is William's so I could imagine their horror. It a miracle how normal hes turned out. We see everyday how certain types deal with compasionate young people.

BertrandRussell · 16/10/2019 14:19

Lights, camera, action......... Welcome to the Dim & Sparkles show. He as learnt from his wife to make everything about them. Woke ! more like fake”
Are you one of those strange people on Twitter or are you just copying their posting style?

LaurieMarlow · 16/10/2019 14:19

But we should just let it pass because W&K took a helicopter to an out of reach glacier?

No. As you well know.

But if we criticize one party for doing it and not the other then we need to own that hypocrisy.

Armi · 16/10/2019 14:22

Smile @LaurieMarlow

Ok. I thought you were trying to turn a nuanced thread demonstrating multiple differing views from lots of different people with different opinions into a rather crude ‘them’ and ‘us’ situation. You’re much too clever for that, of course.

U2HasTheEdge · 16/10/2019 14:24

Ok then. Imagine if Carol Vorderman paused dramatically, snorted, grabbed the podium before carrying on? People would say get a grip it isn't about you

I don't know about you, but when I get really emotional I don't always see it coming. He did get a grip, composed himself then carried on.

He is clearly unwell.

Is he? How do you know that? Because he showed some emotion? Bloody hell, who needs doctors when we have mumsnet posters?

LaurieMarlow · 16/10/2019 14:24

Well I'll confess to not having a fucking clue what you're trying to do, but do crack on.
