It really drives me mad. You are obviously mainly famous or successful because of connections. I know some are them are talented but surely connections of parents help. David Hasslehoff's daughter has said it. Kelly Osborne, Lilly Allen and loads more.

Alexa, well yes, it might have helped. She does look extraordinarily like him though. Grin

If I were her, I wonder if I would have done that, lived in purposeful obscurity - or maybe wanted to bask in the reflected glory and adoration of him? We (generally) court publicity and stardom and we celebrate mediocrity as well as celebrity. Imagine being the child of a much-loved (and gone) superstar? We don't have superstars now, not like that.

People do bang on about who they know all the time. It's tiresome. I had Sam Warburton's mobile number once, it was for a specific thing and I deleted it after.

Interesting to ponder.

Juells · 13/10/2019 13:21

Or rather, he looks like Jude Law would have looked without the 'something' which made him attractive. Fascinating... yet awful.

The saddest one of all, actually brings tears to my eyes, is Arnold Schwarzenegger's son Joseph. He's lost out in every way, yet people are still posting pictures and publishing articles insisting he's the double of his father :( I can't help feeling they're trolling us.

"Why is it I'm the only person who isn't allowed to sound like John Lennon?"

  • Julian Lennon
Belledan1 · 13/10/2019 13:26

Yes I do think it depends on the person too. The ones that actually say famous in own right do my head in whilst some people are successful but dont mention famous parents. I Suppose you could say connections help everywhere even in business. I worked somewhere where the son of boss was hopeless but made a director.

Celebrity is a very strange world to be in, I really have no idea how children cope with it. It’s a really unhealthy environment.

BlackCatSleeping · 13/10/2019 13:35

I think there are pros and cons to being a celebrity kid. Liz Hurley's son gets a lot of modelling work because he's Liz Hurley's son, but I'm sure it wasn't always easy growing up being Liz Hurley's son.

I thought Alfie Allen did great in Game of Thrones. It was a tough role and he worked hard at it.

I agree being famous opens a lot of doors for you, but it also adds a lot of extra pressure too.

veryboredtoday · 13/10/2019 13:36

I feel this is little harsh as although it may help get that first break, they will be continually compared to their parents. Long term they will need the talent to continue succeeding.
There is the fact that they will have access to experiences at a young age and mentors in the industry so have advantages in other ways to just having well known parents.
I recently watched stranger things 3 and was impressed by the new additions to the main cast which is always tough to become popular in an already established cast. Reading up afterwards, I found the role of Robin is played by Maya Hawke (daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman) so perhaps sometimes they are talented in their own right.

cometothinkofit · 13/10/2019 13:38

So whose kids are you talking about OP - anyone in particular, or are you just having a go at all of them?

Nodnol · 13/10/2019 13:38

Tori Spelling. There is no way she got parts based on her acting. If Daddy owns the show it’s easy to become an actress.

AdmiralJaneway · 13/10/2019 13:39

Celebrity is very strange indeed - there’s a children’s cookery programme with the children/family of Gordon Ramsay and it’s all very weird!

AgeLikeWine · 13/10/2019 13:39

If Brooklyn Beckham was called Brooklyn Smith, he would be working in Greggs. It must be incredibly frustrating for genuinely talented young photographers whose parents are not rich influential celebrities.

namechangaroonie · 13/10/2019 13:40

I think there must be so much pressure on them - I know a few well known people, or kids of the wealthy, they can’t just get jobs in Tesco’s or go work in an office. The expectations on them are HIGH. Plus, if someone offers you an opportunity you would be mad to say no, surely?

I think Drew Barrymore and Kate Hudson have talent in their own right.

namechangaroonie · 13/10/2019 13:43

Agelikewine Brooklyn’s photos were crap, but equally, he can’t just go work in Greggs as he would be swamped, it would be a security nightmare and everyone would judge him for that too. He can’t win! I’m not saying that he should get a leg up, but there must be immense pressure on him to be good at something, when he perhaps doesn’t know what he wants to do, because what 18ish year old does?!

MockersthefeMANist · 13/10/2019 13:43

Still waiting for Sofia Coppolla to make a film that isn't about rich, bored white girls.

SimonJT · 13/10/2019 13:45

@namechangaroonie One of the brooklyn children was working in a coffee shop, people were complaining that he was taking a job away from a ‘normal’ teenager.

SimonJT · 13/10/2019 13:45

sorry, beckham, not brooklyn

EntropyRising · 13/10/2019 13:47

Look at the Hadid sisters, Gigi is a model and her sister has had extensive playing surgery to make her modelesque. Sad really.

You would think that the model scouting would be a straightforward process of scouring the earth/finding genetic outliers and job done, but no. We're now meant to believe that Bella Hadid is actually a model.

I find this insulting. YANBU, OP.

weeblefeet · 13/10/2019 13:49

2 of the Ramsey kids are at uni and Jack came across as a decent lad on that programme recently where they looked at where celebrities had been brought up.

Queenoftheashes · 13/10/2019 13:49

Poor Alfie Allen, giving his penis for fame 😂

Fookadook · 13/10/2019 13:50

Just had a quick google. None of the celebrity children (Jude Law’s, Liam Gallagher’s etc) are anything special to be models. They’re just normal looking kids who happen to be modelling because they have rich parents.

All the time you see ‘oh I’m a model, TV presenter, DJ, fashion designer’. No you aren’t. Your parents are just rich enough that you can dabble at anything you feel like.

BikeRunSki · 13/10/2019 13:52

It cuts both ways though. I know 2 people in my (v unglamorous) fiend who are the children of well known academics in the field (one is considered to be the world leading authority on his particular topic). Both hate it when the connection is made between them and their fathers, as there is a huge assumption that their dads have given them a step up. They really havn’t, apart from maybe planting a seed of interest when they were younger.

Deathraystare · 13/10/2019 13:53

No one has mentioned Danny Dyer and his just as awful daughter - who is on everything! Cannot stand them.

BlackCatSleeping · 13/10/2019 13:53

I saw Marnie Gummer in something and thought she was great, but it must be a lot of pressure being an actress when you are Meryl Streep's daughter.

Gigi Hadid is one of the highest paid models in the world at the moment.
