Homework is pointless and just results in unhappy kids and more work for the teacher. The students who actually need more practise won't do the homework properly anyway

Agreed.

Crinklesmile · 08/10/2019 16:14

Three is already too old to start toilet training.
Ed Sheeran and George Ezra are overplayed and overhyped
Breastfeeding is 1000% harder that formula, and yes, bf kids are shitty sleepers for it. I hated it
'Unique' names are just awful.
Kids do not need tablets/ipads
Downton Abbey is tripe
Todays big eyebrow trend looks terrible on most people
Fake tan is mega noticeable
Instagram mums/influencers are exploiting their children and leaving them with a digital footprint they can never escape

Most (if not all) people who celebrate Christmas don't actually know what or why they are celebrating. All of the effort, money and stress invested in a day that doesn't actually mean anything to them is silly.

360eyes · 08/10/2019 16:48

Is there a point to this?

Sagradafamiliar · 08/10/2019 16:52

I'd like to think that people who celebrate Christmas are well aware that they are in fact celebrating Christmas.

1984isnow · 08/10/2019 16:54

But what is actually being celebrated?

Dieu · 08/10/2019 16:57

Cats are for those who can't be bothered owning a dog. Dogs are the best.

Some Mumsnetters are really stingy. There was a thread where people discussed how much they spend on their child relatives. One poster replied £10 for birthday/Christmas, but that they'd stopped when the children turned 18. I shouldn't imagine they'd miss their tenner gift all that much.

James Corden is a smug twat.

BeanBag7 · 08/10/2019 16:59

I know what is being celebrated, I just don't believe in it. Obviously we know Christmas originated as a religious festival, but it has grown into something else now and that's fine too.

Adogwithabone · 08/10/2019 17:04

Christmas should be biannual

Madein1995 · 08/10/2019 17:07

Hmm not sure how much of a choice homelessness is... Imagine a young man who's just left prison. A woman who's left a violent partner. A male who has a dog, loves the dog, has had dog since small, cares for dog, seperatikn would do more harm than good for both, cannot find a place that accepts dogs. Someone with substance misuse issues.

Lack of funding for MH and homelessness charities has a knock on effect. OK yes, so offending, leaving partners, drugs and pets are all choices (in theory) but when you consider poverty, trauma, abuse and basic human compassion eh with the dog, it simply isn't that easy. Add in chaotic lives and underfunding of services and you have a recipe for disaster.

OK so the root cause may be a 'choice' of some kind. But I doubt anyone would really prefer to sleep on the streets in this cold and rain, than a nice warm bed.

People who take selfies are idiots.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/10/2019 17:20

People who carefully pose in ‘natural’ poses to get their mates to take photos (I assume for their websites or social media) are also idiots. For some reason this weekend I saw quite a few people posing as if gazing at their phones whilst another person snapped them. Must be ‘a thing’...

mbosnz · 08/10/2019 17:25

People posing for selfies and instagram shoots look like narcissistic twats and when they get pissed off at people messing up their shot by going about their business around them, they look even stupider and more self involved, if that is at all possible.

Venger · 08/10/2019 17:27

Three is already too old to start toilet training.

The ideal time to start potty training is when that particular is ready for it and - unless you're a fan of scrubbing piss out of the carpet - it's better to start slightly too late than too early because the sooner you start, the longer it takes.

twilightcafe · 08/10/2019 17:36

Nothing wrong with toilet training at three.

Both my children were toilet trained just after their third birthdays. Because this is when they were ready.
Both cracked it within a week and were dry at night.

My instinct is to feel embarrassed for them, but it's all pretty hopeless, isn't it?

I had a woman filming herself in my yoga class and I was directly in the line of the camera, I was so fucking outraged at the intrusion. I stalked across the room with my mat to another spot and of course she took notice, she was busy pouting and re-organising her hair.

Maybe we all deserve to be shot down by a giant asteroid. What's become of civility?

Mammylamb · 08/10/2019 17:41

Letting your child decide they want to go into pants themselves is the best way of toilet training. Babylamb decided at 2 years 11 months that he wanted pants on one morning. I told him all pees and poos were to happen in the potty and put a few potties round the house. No fuss was required

WickedLittleThing · 08/10/2019 17:43

Children are not a human right. They're a luxury.

If you can't provide for them, don't have them.

Being 'broody' isn't an acceptable reason to bring another child into the world if you can't afford it/your partner doesn't want it. It's selfishness and any woman who can't overcome their hormones are completely pathetic. Say this as someone with fertility issues.

A foetus is not a 'baby'. It is not sentient. Anyone who deludes themselves otherwise are self righteous twats.

I've had an abortion. They should be readily available over here in Northern Ireland.

The royal family should be evaporated once Elizabeth dies, there is no need for them. The apparent tourists they bring do not outweigh the drainage on society.

On that note - royal fanatics both annoy and bewilder me. You named your kids Kate and William because of that good 'oul British pride? Please fuck off.

Northern Ireland (Belfast in particular) is one of the most backward, oppressive and bigoted countries, particularly for women. I say this as a resident.

Not allowing your child life saving medical treatment because 'religious beliefs' should be child abuse.

What antivaxxers do with their children should be considered child abuse, removal of the kid or of benefits should be implements. My immunocompromised kid has almost died because of you fuckwits and your google medical degrees.

Vaccines do not cause Autism. It's genetic. Those who think otherwise deserve to be culled for the good of the herd.

Euthanasia should be available.

The views of most Arab countries needs to be abolished for the sake of their women and children and future. Who can condone such barbaric and vicious behaviour?

PoorlySonToday · 08/10/2019 17:43

Sorry, I know we are 15 pages into this thread now, but I can't get past the 4th poster who said this ..

I support trump

Shock Shock Why would you do that? Who are you you crazy fool!! Wink

Mammylamb · 08/10/2019 17:45

Oh, and once you split up and have small kids, it’s an act of cruelty to bring another non related adult into the house unless they really do get on with the new person and you’ve been with the new person a good few years

Mammylamb · 08/10/2019 17:46

Oh, and too many people have more kids than they can afford

WickedLittleThing · 08/10/2019 17:47

Mammy, I know someone who's been with her partner a year and is already 5 months pregnant by him. Has two kids from a previous relationship too. 😒
