Being given a bunch of flowers is a massive fucking ballache. I have to find a vase, I'm shit at arranging them, and they stink the house out.

Gretais · 08/10/2019 09:25

Breastfeeding selfies are inappropriate Hmm

hugogino · 08/10/2019 09:26

the sitcom Friends is shite

Ruby2065 · 08/10/2019 09:36

Best state schools are good because they are usually in affluent areas or dependent on church attendance = excludes the so called "riff raff" - don't necessarily agree with it but think it's a widespread but unspoken opinion.

Good schools in nice areas are not necessarily good because of the superior teaching but because they don't have to contend with the same behavioural/ emotional issues that possibly exist in more deprived ones.

mawof3soontobe · 08/10/2019 09:40

Feminism in general now is annoying and any point that's supposed to be driven home is drowned out by the entitled, prickly, argumentative and crazy attitudes and tone.

Runningmyultra · 08/10/2019 10:25

I'm also a remainer and gap years have never entered my mind as a reason for staying. I cringe when I hear middle class people lamenting that little Tabitha won't be able to study in Paris - it alienates so many people even further.

Women only want equality when it suits them.

FfionFlorist · 08/10/2019 10:32

Most people are good, kind, trying to do their best in life.
We over medicalise normal human emotions such as fear, anxiety, sadness etc and do ourselves no favours in the long run.
Women on MN who answer threads about how much do you earn and what do you do? with their dh's jobs and salaries should learn how to read.
People in the uk who dismiss religion as being stories/ big man in the sky stuff are generally not well travelled or well educated because they fail to recognise the role religion plays in many, many societies and countries in the world. I think it is a way of looking down on people. I have absolutely zero religious interest myself.
I don't understand fashion in drinks.

^^Totally agree with this. But then again, the same is true of men.

coldwarenigma · 08/10/2019 10:50

Mine would be…….

For most people schools are childcare, the schools were organised around working life originally and needs revamping to reflect modern working practice.

Climate change reform is a lot of hot air, the west wont give up lifestyles to make a difference and the rest of the world would prefer to have our styles of living given a chance. The resulting conclusion will be a wipe out eventually as the earth resets.

Anxiety/depression etc are fast becoming the new 'bad back' in the working environment. Companies now bend over backwards to be seen as accepting and a worrying number of employees play the card to circumvent absence policies. Does those genuinely suffering a disservice.

Putting a child in wrap around care is no different to putting them in boarding schools.

Modern new builds will become the 'Victorian slums' in the future, cramped, poorly built. Overcrowded due to people buying properties too small for their needs. Ergo the government needs to instigate a housing programme to match 1950s to build proper homes.

Older people staying in social housing once their kids are grown up are not the problem. Those homes are their family homes. Younger people need to pressurise the government into revoking the right to buy and build new social housing.

Too many women get in bad relationships that have more red flags than a Chinese parade then shout victim blaming if anyone suggests taking responsibility for their own decisions.

If women want men to take responsibility for their behaviour, as a class, they need to choose partners carefully and then both bring up sons to emulate these decent men. Don't have children with 'dangerous' men'.

Missillusioned · 08/10/2019 10:59

Antidepressants have their place, but should not be recommended for normal emotions such as grief or loneliness.

I see countless posts where the OP is upset following a bereavement or relationship break up and they are told to go to their GP and ask for antidepressants. I don't know if GPs do prescribe for such things, but antidepressants have side effects and should not be used in people who don't have clinical depression.

-The sitcom 'Modern Family' is just not funny or clever (though the dude who was Al Bundy character and his wife can be kinda funny)

  • People who don't drive or don't have a car are incredibly annoying . . . (one of DD's friends parents are in paper thinking they are the holy grail for not owning a car . . . yet who else ferries their kids around from sport/friends houses etc? yes thats right, other parents grrr. We live in a town which is spread out and where public transport is shite, so if you have kids to ferry around you kinda need a car. We have a lot of carpools.)
  • I love wine and have a glass a day.
  • I hate Ed Sheerin
Will think of more no doubt
Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 08/10/2019 11:28

I can’t stand bloody cupcakes. Overrated sugary shite.
The colour grey is totally overdone when decorating houses.
I refuse to join insta.

dollybird76 · 08/10/2019 11:31

I'm totally for caring about the environment but it irritates me that the pressure from governments etc is for the average person to change instead of companies.

There is SO much waste from farming, manufacturing, hell, even retail (I used to work in high street fashion and every item we received came wrapped in 3 layers of plastic) and instead of fixing that there are constant campaigns for us to not use cling wrap, use cloths instead of nappies and whatnot...

Don't get me wrong, I know it all adds up but it just seems like we should be looking at businesses to clean up their act first instead of putting all the responsibilities on normal families.

fotheringhay · 08/10/2019 11:42

Nastiness has become an epidemic

Yep

HeadLikeAFuckinOrange · 08/10/2019 12:45

Children of divorced parents don't want to split their time between two houses.
Saying "there's just more people in their lives that love them now" is parents soothing their own doubts, but is rarely the case for the DC in the middle. You feel like a pass the parcel, everyone gets a turn.
And no, they probably won't tell you or the other parent because they can't articulate it as a child, but believe me they'll tell their friends, and reflect on it as an adult.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/10/2019 12:49

following on from @Puffthemagicdragongoestobed - muffins are just fairy cakes with over-inflated egos. Give me a fairy cake any day.

When people say 'they never die if you remember them' is just crap.

Potnoodledoo · 08/10/2019 12:50

Lizzo is over rated mediocre music.Ariane Grande is over hyped and Taylor Swift is just ugh.

Adogwithabone · 08/10/2019 13:25
  • Homelessness is a choice in England.

Drugs and by drugs I mean illegal not pharmaceutical are evil. Including weed.

You should have to retake your driving test every 5 years. Would tackle terrible, set-in-theiir-way drivers overnight.

EntropyRising · 08/10/2019 14:07

I absolutely loathe this show, I don't understand why it's been such a great success. Julie Bowen and the guy who plays her dimwit husband (and everyone else, really) are utterly unremarkable, I would have thought they'd maybe be moderately successful commercial actors at best.

Grumpyperson · 08/10/2019 14:38

Yes I don't see the point of (cut) flowers! Give me a bottle of wine instead :)

Grumpyperson · 08/10/2019 14:39

Not sure about an actual test but definitely agree everyone needs reeducating every 5 years - a one day course to teach people about eg changes in road signs and just remind people how to drive (and how is it that German brands are allowed to produce cars without indicators?)

Grumpyperson · 08/10/2019 14:40

I'm totally for caring about the environment but it irritates me that the pressure from governments etc is for the average person to change instead of companies

I agree, I am not sure it is that unpopular an opinion actually.

Grumpyperson · 08/10/2019 14:43

Maybe, but why should our kids have a less rich life than we did? I got to study overseas and I want that for my son. People should want better lives for their kids, not worse!

However, the main reason I voted to remain was to protect the not very good employment rights we actually have. There are loads of Brexit threads, so I won't say any more.
