Love travelling and always looking for recommendations. Where has been your favourite and least favourite holiday you have ever visited and why?
So far my favourite has been the Canadian Rockies - amazing scenery.
Least favourite has been Benidorm - got terrible food poisoning and was a bit too “Brits abroad”

LOVE LOVE LOVE Kraków so much and can’t wait to return to do the things I didn’t get to do this time.

Glad lots of people are saying Iceland as a fave as I’m off there this week and am not really looking forward to it. It wasn’t my choice and I can’t believe how much everything is going to end up costing us.

Best: road trip from New Orleans to Washington DC with stops in Natchez, Memphis, Nashville, Gatlinburg and Virginia. Culminating in a Foo Fighters gig on 4 July! Hopefully 2020 we will do something similar for their 25th anniversary 😍

Worst: New York or Las Vegas

Can honestly say we have never had a bad holiday in 40 years. With and without kids.
Best. Istria in Northern Croatia, California and Dorset.
Least favourite, only one, Tunisia. We were in an expensive hotel on a trip organised by a previous employer. Breakfast was appalling, lots of cockroaches - you would crunch them underfoot when entering your room at night, outside the hotel, in Tunis the men in the souks were awful, visited a camel market, but the tour company got us there too late, so we missed it. This was 35 years ago, but with the current political situation I would give here, and indeed all of North Africa a wide berth. On the positives, it was hot, sunny, beautiful beach. Good food, apart from Breakfast.

Best ever was a magical luxury villa in Dalyan turkey but that’s probably as much about the people I was with......:::

SleepyKat · 06/10/2019 20:07

Best. Riveria Maya in Mexico.

Worst. Probably Egypt. Was a bit too scared to leave the hotel!

WitchesGlove · 06/10/2019 20:11

Curious about the poster that said Atlanta and Utah were they’re favourite

MamaGee09 · 06/10/2019 20:13

Best would be the Lake District or a wee tiny island in Scotland called Cumbrae, so peaceful and tranquil.

Worst was Lloret de mar. Horrible place .

confusedjuly2019 · 06/10/2019 20:16

Worst (by a 'country mile'): NYC
Best: Dolomites, Austria, Slovenia, Pembrokeshire, Northumberland

Wizzbangpop · 06/10/2019 20:19

The best thing about this thread is how many people's best are other people's worst and vice verse. Shows you how people have such different tastes and opinions when it comes to holidays

HotCrossPun1 · 06/10/2019 20:26

GeneHuntLover · 06/10/2019 20:28

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 06/10/2019 20:41

I haven't been to many places, as we tend to return to the same places: Brittany & Lake Garda being my favourite

I didn't see the appeal with the Algarve. Soulless imo.

Disappointed to see the comments about Ireland.
I live here and the scenery takes my breath away.

MsTSwift · 06/10/2019 20:41

Oh Austria is gorgeous really lovely. Lakes and mountains so stunning g in summer don’t look real

madeyemoodysmum · 06/10/2019 20:52

WORST IRELAND
My reasons for the poster who asked

We went to attend a friends wedding.

Took 13 sodding hours to get there. I could fly to the Caribbean for that time

Cost. Was horrendously expensive.
Food entry prices. All a LOT more than uk.

Food out was expensive and tbh not good at all.

Children not welcome in pubs

No child friendly restaurants or pubs.
I felt like I’d stepped back in time. We just couldn’t eat out unless fast food.

People letting their dogs crap on beaches and not picking it up. We witnessed this the whole week so it wasn’t a one off.

Our cottage was filthy but I’ll let that one slide as that could happen anywhere.

Not a lot to do other than drinking or walking

I guess an adult only city break might be fun but it was not a family friendly holiday.

I have no inclination to go back.

Almostfifty · 06/10/2019 20:59

Gran Canaria and Tenerife were probably the worst, though Ibiza in the rain wasn't brilliant (Grandfather there had been taking his GC for twenty years in October half term and the weather had always been brilliant, but not when we went...).

I absolutely loved Barbados, spent a week in Malaysia, had a weekend there at Pangkor Island, just paradise. We spend a lot of time in France, never had a bad holiday there.

sue51 · 06/10/2019 21:00

Best: Egypt Nile cruise, Hong Kong, Penang

Worst: Las Vegas, Marrakesh, Australia

Littlecaf · 06/10/2019 21:01

Croatia is our happy place. Also loved Malaysia and Thailand.

Worst - Marmaris, Turkey. The Chuckle Brothers Bar just did it for me. We were only there for 24 after a gulet cruise (which was fab) but I wouldn’t even go back. Tacky. Shame because Istanbul and the coast is .
