AIBU to not go to church because it's raining?

Just that really. It's pouring. The church is a 10 minute walk from parking (we leave the few spaces at the church for the elderly).
DD and me would rather snuggle on the sofa.
To avoid a drip feed, I'm chaplain/pastor/insert any denominational variation here and it's harvest lunch...

Your choice mate

MustardScreams · 06/10/2019 09:30

I wouldn’t, but I’m not very religious. What would Jesus do? I think he’d say stuff the harvest lunch and have a snuggly sofa day.

PotteringAlong · 06/10/2019 09:30

Until your final sentence I was all with you for staying on the sofa...!

You’re going to have to go. You’ll get your reward in heaven - God loves a trier and all that! Smile

Queenlatifahsleftboob · 06/10/2019 09:31

There's better things to do on Sunday than go to church IMO!

Oysterbabe · 06/10/2019 09:31

I'm sure you can ask God to just carry on in your absence.

StCharlotte · 06/10/2019 09:31

You know YABU! Grin

If you're the vicar, send a couple of tweets: #floodalert #buildanark #2by2 #staysafe

The younger members of the congregation will get these instantly.

For the elderly members, pop a message on a pigeon's leg...that'll do it! Save the dove until the rain stops...obviously! You need her to carry the olive branch 👍

FaFoutis · 06/10/2019 09:37

the rain is god telling you not to go.

SchrodingersUnicorn · 06/10/2019 09:41

I like these ideas. Maybe DD and I could build an ark and put a picture on the church Facebook page!

gabsdot45 · 06/10/2019 09:42

I enjoy my church meetings so I would go. It's not a chore for me.

Are you in charge and would be letting people down? In that case you have to go.

SummerHouse · 06/10/2019 09:46

You well feel double cozy and righteous when you get back.

Amen.

SchrodingersUnicorn · 06/10/2019 09:46

Just to clarify for anyone confused, obviously this is lighthearted... and I do like church, just not the rain to get there!

Since it matters not 1 jot unless you want to go.. don't. Use the energy and time for something productive or restful or would enhance your & dd's life.

Dahlietta · 06/10/2019 09:50

This thread won't go how you planned, OP. There'll be a load of people along in a minute telling you how you are ridiculous for even thinking of going to worship a sky fairy. Lots of people won't read your OP, but will respond to the title alone. Anyway, I like a bit of torrential rain!

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 06/10/2019 09:57

If God wants you to go He will stop the rain.

Tonnerre · 06/10/2019 10:16

Underhanded, it probably does matter just a bit to the congregation if the chaplain/pastor/whatever doesn't turn up.

UnderhandedBarbieDoll · 06/10/2019 10:28

I dunno, maybe it will inspire them to do something more productive or enriching? [Hmm]

WalkofShame · 06/10/2019 10:30

Isn’t God wherever we happen to be? In which case, invite everyone back to yours to watch Wonder Woman, drink tea and eat cheese on toast?

PuppyMonkey · 06/10/2019 10:58

I’m enjoying the people who don’t read the OP properly.Grin

Can you not do it entirely by Tweet these days OP?Wink

saoirse31 · 06/10/2019 11:04

I'm sorry but cant get an image of ancient Rome out of my head... christiNs numbering thrown to lions etc.. and rain bithers youGrin

pourmeanotherglass · 06/10/2019 11:23

I read the title and thought "YANBU unless you're the vicar". Then i read the post and it looks like you probably need to go - unless you can pull a sickie and get one of the old ladies the give the sermon.

StCharlotte · 06/10/2019 11:31

Genius! Especially #2by2!

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 06/10/2019 11:35

#buildanark 😂😂 genius.

Can you phone one of the congregation and face time it in?

Get a handy lifesize cardboard cut out of yourself for future emergencies such as these

Hooferdoofer37 · 06/10/2019 11:38

Why don't you stay at home and pray for God to spend his/her time today helping starving children instead of ticking people off on the church register of attendance.
