Not had Ben & Jerry’s for months, treated myself to the heavenly peanut butter cup flavour this evening. All good? Nope it tasted really really bad. And guess what it’s full of now ?

Not just palm oil but coconut oil too!

Why???

Can’t believe they are charging the prices they do for ice cream that’s now pretty much the same as the value branded stuff.

I miss the days before food was full of shite!!

AIBU??

Did you accidentally eat the vegan one?!

CarWreck · 04/10/2019 21:43

Look on Ocado at the reviews for the Cookie Dough flavour. I used to LOVE Ben & Jerry's, but I got the cookie dough one a while ago and the cookie dough chunks were chalky balls of POWDER - absolutely vile!!

I can't risk buying another crappy pot so I'm just buying other brands now. Shame as they had amazing flavours.

Cleverplayonwords · 04/10/2019 21:47

There's no palm oil in it?? I'm looking at a tub right now.

pamperramper · 04/10/2019 21:48

Mackie's original is great. With a homemade chocolate or caramel sauce, ginger syrup, or whatever.

Laiste · 04/10/2019 21:52

''I got the cookie dough one a while ago and the cookie dough chunks were chalky balls of POWDER''

Yes! I thought that somehow it was my freezer doing it!

Laiste · 04/10/2019 21:53

I also miss Cherry G but i wonder sadly if that too would have gone downhill by now like some of the other flavors have?

misspiggy19 · 04/10/2019 21:56

I tried Mackies but was disappointed

mnthrowaway2099 · 04/10/2019 22:06

Yeah - did you try the vegan one on accident? I have bought the vegan version accidentally before, it tasted different and had a different texture but it wasn’t that bad tbh.

Maybe it’s just a weak flavour choice? I normally just stick to cookie dough from then which is still enjoyable.

Pharlapwasthebest · 04/10/2019 22:12

YANBU. I am SICK of coconut , I would like food produces to realise that NOT EVERYONE LIKES IT! It’s in EVERYTHING.

SospanFrangipan · 04/10/2019 22:28

Kelly's is my go-to now, nothing else compares! I can happily eat a full tub of their clotted cream ice cream in one sitting.....

HelenUrth · 04/10/2019 22:53

Simplest, most delicious ice cream you'll ever have, make it yourself with no need for a machine, and it's so cheap to make.

Beat a pint of cream until it has stiff peaks. Beat in a small tin of condensed milk. Beat in a teaspoon of vanilla essence.

Add in your preferred flavouring, nutella, caramel, mango sauce, honeycomb, cherries stewed in syrup, whatever.

Now is the special bit. Add in 3 tablespoons of vodka. This lowers the temperature at which it will freeze.

Pour into a freezable container and pop into the freezer overnight.

Because the freezing temperature has been lowered, it wont set as hard as it would otherwise.

Take it out of the freezer, leave to sit for a few minutes and you'll have the nicest soft scoop ice cream ever.

Try it and let me know what you think!

CarWreck · 04/10/2019 23:34

Actually I think it was the chocolate brownie bits that were powdery (as well or instead of the cookie dough ones)

Lowlandlucky · 04/10/2019 23:48

It was shit over priced ice cream to start with, i will stick with Mackies at least it doesnt taste salty feel gloopy

MissConductUS · 04/10/2019 23:58

The Cherry Garcia sold in the US is every bit as delicious as it's always been.

TheGrandHighWitch · 05/10/2019 00:01

I had exactly the same problem on two occasions with the cookie dough ice cream as previous posters. I even tweeted Ben & Jerry's about it but they didn't bother to respond. I have since switched to their baked alaska flavour which is very nice but hasn't actually rolled out to shops near me yet. The only way I can get a tub is by ordering a pizza hut delivery which isn't helpful to the waistline Grin.

PancakeAndKeith · 05/10/2019 00:04

secondly because it tastes like crap cannot have any cadburys now ffs
Their Dark Milk chocolate is palm oil free.

TurinBrakes · 05/10/2019 00:07

Loving all the Mackie's recommendations as it is lovely. When I was wee they were local to me and when they'd just started out our primary school would walk to their dairy and get free ice cream, one of my first and best memories! One of the daughter's was also my GP before we moved away.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 05/10/2019 00:11

Yeo Valley Vanilla has milk, cream, sugar and vanilla

CarWreck · 05/10/2019 00:12

I used to love flavours like 'late night snack' (which had actual salty CRISPS in them) and 'Chubby Hubby' - omg, had peanut-butter filled pretzels in!

MorganKitten · 05/10/2019 00:46

They dont use palm oil, they haven’t for two years.

littleorangecat22 · 05/10/2019 00:56

It tasted really really bad because it was 2+ year old probably expired ice cream. B&J haven't had palm oil in their products since 2017.

Hesafriendfromwork · 05/10/2019 01:13

They dont use palm oil, they haven’t for two years.

Dont think op wants to acknowledge this 😂

MiniMum97 · 05/10/2019 01:18

Green and blacks ice cream and also Yeo valley ice cream is AMAZING.

BrylcreamBeret · 05/10/2019 01:25

Joe's plain Vanilla direct from Swansea is the best ofc Grin Mackie and Kellys clotted cream are also still delicious (not that I eat much ice cream oh no rubs chins)

MissConductUS · 05/10/2019 01:27

All of this talk of ice cream inspired me to go to my local artisan, small batch, made on site ice Creamery for a pint of their Really Good Chocolate and a pint of Mint Chip. No oils, gums, etc. and made with local milk and cream. Amazingly good. Stop by the Blue Pig if you're ever in the Hudson Valley.
