To think that lots of people don't understand just how many jobs pay minimum wage.

And how many jobs they would consider worthy of higher wages do not get them.

I am a support worker, and we were talking about this in our staff room this morning. Many of us have had similar experiences, people who cannot believe how little we get paid, or that we would do it for such a small amount of money. And we get 19p above the current minimum wage. Similarly with a couple of my colleagues who have backgrounds in nursery.

My Stepdads motto is “minimum pay, minimum effort”Grin

If the NMW does go up to £9.50, then all the BSc qualified junior scientists in my wife's firm will need a pay rise, they are on around £8.25ph at the momentSad

"minimum pay, minimum effort”

Charming. Hope that's just him.it applies to. Most of us work like Trojans and take pride in doing a good job even though we are only paid mnw.

Willow no need to take it so seriously, it was a throwaway comment and quite frankly in certain jobs then he’s absolutely correct! As a PP said then you’d think being a support Worker would warrant a decent wage and it doesn’t, and it’s a very important and rewarding -although not financially-job.

I have been self employed for years and I wouldn’t get out of bed for any less than £10 per hour, even £10 per hour is crap.
