It seems very out of character for Harry? Confused I wonder if he misinterpreted and thought she was asking about the lawsuit...

I don't think he could answer the question. That's why he got arsey. The reporter had a point. Him tipping up, making a speech then pissing off to the next school, orphanage, church... isn't really going to make a massive difference to their lives is it.

RoseQuartzGlow · 04/10/2019 08:10

I don’t think Harry is arrogant at all. I think he genuinely cares and is trying to do his best. However I think since he met Meghan his whole agenda has changed.
She has an idea she can change the world, and wants him on board. Unfortunately she has alienated much of the public and doesn’t understand the system she is working within . I think where Harry would have listened to other advice, his brother, father, grandmother and Palace advisors, she is encouraging him to break out and do his own thing so the two of them can be a brand.
They’ve made poor choices and it feels like they’ve boxed themselves into a corner. They were turning it around in this trip but they’ve now blown themselves up again.
I do really feel for Harry. I can see he’s trying to fight back, but the timing couldn’t be worse and once again I think they’ve ignored their advisors.
I can see this really becoming a toxic situation in the future with Harry becoming increasingly angry and frustrated and her deciding not to play ball at all in the UK.
She will play to the US market increasingly, and he will follow suit. Poor William and Kate will be left doing damage limitation.

RoseQuartzGlow · 04/10/2019 08:28

Reading the text of Meghan’s last speech which she’s put on Instagram apparently, though her words are inspirational, she seems to be setting herself up as some kind of spiritual leader or authority on personal relations. She’s not Mandela. I really think she has delusions of grandeur.

KatyCarrCan · 04/10/2019 08:52

The palace will be briefing/leaking against them. They're very good at isolating people who can damage the RF's image. They did it with Fergie and Diana. H&M's main problem has been not keeping the palace on side and not listening to their advisers. This tour was the perfect opportunity to reclaim some goodwill on all sides but instead they announced the court case - detracting from the purpose of the tour, annoying the palace by not keeping them informed and (apparently) also annoying their own new communications/PR advisers.
It would be easy to turn their press around but they seem determined not to do so. I think part of their own plans will involve leaving the UK and all of this is about trying to justify that move. The problem is that the court case has even stirred negative coverage from American media that has been completely supportive till now.

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 04/10/2019 08:52

Yes, there's absolutely no humility in her speech whatsoever, it's awkward to watch

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/10/2019 08:57

I'm realise I'm alone in this but I don't find the DoS's speeches inspirational. Although Meghan clearly enjoys public speaking there's no substance to what she says. It's all just puff and performance.

Don't get me wrong, the way she engages with people is lovely and it's clearly been a successful tour so hats off to them for that. But in terms of being influential, I think they are in danger of believing their own publicity.

TottieandMarchpane · 04/10/2019 09:02

It’s gloves off from the media now that Harry’s has had his non-specific rant about them all. I doubt they take kindly to being described as dangerous “powerful forces”.

He’s been presented as the bereaved teen for a long time and probably believes his own hype.

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 04/10/2019 09:04

I agree, there is little substance, her speeches largely consist of banal personal observations and hyperbolic platitudes

Girasole02 · 04/10/2019 09:04

If the Queen can stay calm under pressure, so can he. The difference is that the Queen knows her role but he thinks he's some big celeb who happens to be a Prince. He should feel it beneath him to respond to criticism and just go about his business, saving his ranting for behind closed doors. As for Meghan, I really think she has no clue about what it means to be a part of the royal family. Kate and William usually get it right but they just seem to be bumbling from crisis to crisis. They need to get their heads down and get on with the job because that's exactly what it is.

TottieandMarchpane · 04/10/2019 09:05

No you’re not alone @Myimaginarycathasfleas

It must be very easy in their position to surround yourself with people who will praise them for their stellar oratory no matter what guff they come out with.

RoseQuartzGlow · 04/10/2019 09:12

Actually I agree. I take back what I said about the inspirational speeches. They are guff and hot air. I’m trying to be kind.
I don’t think she has any humility at all, I think she thinks she can be a Guru to the masses. That only works if you are genuinely humble and have arrived at a place of genuine insight, after some tough trials.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/10/2019 09:16

But there are reams of posts on MN banging on about her amazing public speaking skills and now Harry's "powerful" statement. Is this what people's comprehension has been reduced to by social media?

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 04/10/2019 09:21

Shoe is good at public speaking, her delivery is very good and engaging.

RoseQuartzGlow · 04/10/2019 09:25

She is a great public speaker but the content is woolly.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/10/2019 09:27

Her delivery is fine, if a little actressy, but the point of public speaking is to get information across. There's no content.

angell84 · 04/10/2019 10:36

I am just reading the transcript of her speech.

It is a very good speech! It is well written.

I don't mind Meghan. I think that being black and being foreign - she is always going to have problems in U.K society, which is a racist society. I feel that alot of U.K . People are taught from a young age to hate people from abroad.

I talked to an Indian man yesterday , and he told me that he is constantly called Paki, and told to fuck off back to Pakistan.

How do we address racism and bigotry in the U.K?

RoseQuartzGlow · 04/10/2019 10:41

Yes of course. It must be racism..

angell84 · 04/10/2019 10:44

@rosequartzglow - if you don't see that racism is a HUGE problem in this country - you have your head in the sand.

I am just flicking through the online papers today.

The top story in the Daily mail is about racism , yet again.

The article says : A woman says that her Polish friend, who has lived in the U.K for twenty years, can no longer speak Polish to her daughter on the bus or tube, as she will receive constant racist abuse.

I see levels of racism in the U.K that are absolutely shocking

morningcoffee22 · 04/10/2019 10:48

The real problems in South Africa weren’t even touched on, by either of them. I thought it was more of a glorified (expensive) holiday for them to show off and feel important. The money spent on theur jaunt would have been better spent on those poor women (the ones made to sit on the floor). Shock Fancy speeches don’t help anyone. But the very real issues affecting S Africa were ignored.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/10/2019 10:49

I can't imagine how awful it would be to live in a country where the press weren't allowed to print anything slightly negative about certain people, just because of how important they considered themselves

Yes, and their expectation that this'll be the case is exactly where the danger lies. It was all very well back in the days when they had more control over who said what, but times have changed with social media, and while they're all too keen on using it they don't seem to have considered the downside

They're both starting to look consumed with the "fame" of it all, but as PPs have said there just isn't the content to back it up. Hopefully someone might manage to rein them in a bit, but who it'll be - or even if they've gone too far to listen - beats the heck out of me

Funghi · 04/10/2019 10:52

I think part of their own plans will involve leaving the UK and all of this is about trying to justify that move.

I hope you’re right. It’d be a delight to pick up a paper and not wade through H&M shite to get to the actual news.

All of this ‘oh bless him, must be so hard living under such a spotlight’ nonsense, he doesn’t have to. He could have left years ago, given up his title and enjoyed a relatively private existence away from the press that he apparently hates but seems to rely upon.

morningcoffee22 · 04/10/2019 10:52

I don't mind Meghan. I think that being black and being foreign -
She isn’t black, not that it matters. She doesn’t identify as black either.

angell84 · 04/10/2019 11:25

@morningcoffee22 she described herself as a "woman of colour" in her speech in South Africa. She identifies strongly with it.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 11:46

“She isn’t black, not that it matters. She doesn’t identify as black either.”

As a point of fact. She does.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/10/2019 11:55

Please can anyone link the text of Meghan's latest speech in SA? I'm not going on ruddy Instagram and all Google brings up are videos which are driving me mad, watching her incessant fiddling with her hair

I can't work out if it's a "vulnerable little me" thing or if she really is that disorganised, but FGS she's supposed to be a professional; get it under control!!!

Sorry, but grrrrrrr Blush
