It seems very out of character for Harry? Confused I wonder if he misinterpreted and thought she was asking about the lawsuit...

Think of the House of Commons v the House of Lords.

The peerage aren't "commoners".

RoseQuartzGlow · 07/10/2019 21:49

Commoners are people who aren't aristocracy or Royalty or landed gentry. Or are landed gentry the same thing as aristocrats?

diddl · 07/10/2019 21:51

I thought that peers of the realm were specific titles (all male?) & that anyone else was a "commoner".

RoseQuartzGlow · 07/10/2019 21:58

Just noticed the Sussex Instagram has a post on community, with neighbour spelt neighbor. Call me pedantic but it bloody annoys me. Maybe it's okay to use Americanised spelling on a British Instagram account purporting to represent the RF, but it annoys me all the same.

RoseQuartzGlow · 07/10/2019 21:59

How can a Lady be a commoner?

diddl · 07/10/2019 22:00

"How can a Lady be a commoner?"

Because they're not a peer.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/10/2019 22:04

@RoseQuartzGlow Have a read of Harry's speech at the launch of Travalyst.
"Often times" is one of the phrases that jarred with me.

RoseQuartzGlow · 07/10/2019 22:34

Oh God, how I hate that bloody word.

RoseQuartzGlow · 07/10/2019 22:35

We know who wrote the speech then. We already know who writes the Instagram posts.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/10/2019 22:48

Yes, the phrases "paradigm shift" and "human-caused challenges" don't sound like the Harry we are used to.

Ibiza2015 · 07/10/2019 22:49

When C&D argued Diana used to dig at him that her family put his on the throne. It’s true, they were part of the Whig aristocracy which was responsible for the process of passing over lots of Catholics to offer the throne to George I.

She viewed her family as older, more aristocratic and more influential than the Windsors, and quite a lot of aristos would have thought the same.

RoseQuartzGlow · 07/10/2019 22:51

I really don’t know why Harry can’t write his own speeches. Does he not even want to change the wording to his own phrases?

BertrandRussell · 07/10/2019 23:29

Oh dear-.the thread was looking quite sane for a while....../

justasking111 · 07/10/2019 23:35

just listened to the mental health speech. In our area it takes months to be seen, so this may just make things worse not better if there is no funding to support it.

RueCambon · 07/10/2019 23:40

Did Harry say ''oftentimes'' [face palm]

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 08/10/2019 07:23

It’s embarrassing. If you're going to engage a speechwriter, at least choose someone competent

BertrandRussell · 08/10/2019 07:46

If Meghan is writing their Instagram, why should she use British spelling? Should she have elocution lessons to change her accent too?

Cerseirys · 08/10/2019 07:54

We know who wrote the speech then. We already know who writes the Instagram posts.

I'm sure they have a social media person, I don't think the royals compose every IG or twitter post themselves. The spelling issue could just be an autocorrect error that wasn't picked up when posting.

BertrandRussell · 08/10/2019 07:56

Or it could be an American person using American spelling. I honestly can’t see what’s so awful about that.....

Cerseirys · 08/10/2019 08:01

Agree @BertrandRussell, it's not the hill I'll die on!

BertrandRussell · 08/10/2019 08:25

But it does illustrate a bit what MM has to contend with, if people are so outraged by a missing “u”.....

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/10/2019 08:33

Come on, Bert, you've been around long enough to know how well the Pedants' Corner threads go!

LaurieMarlow · 08/10/2019 08:38

There’s a bit of ‘how dare you infect our British institution with your brazen Americanness’ about it. Which clearly isn’t just about language.

BertrandRussell · 08/10/2019 08:46

Yes, I know about Pedant’s Corner. The people who inhabit it are either briefly amusing themselves in a self deprecating way or judgemental arseholes.....

Cerseirys · 08/10/2019 08:46

This, on Twitter today, did make me laugh.
