It seems very out of character for Harry? Confused I wonder if he misinterpreted and thought she was asking about the lawsuit...

Confident women seen as bossy. I've seen plenty of articles making snidey remarks about Carole Middleton for the same reason, with the added twist that she's a working class women made good, so there's snobbery thrown in for good measure. There's been 'insiders' at Party Pieces who claim she's difficult etc. MM is not unique in this

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 16:20

“Harry should step back from royal duties, who does he think he is talking to a reporter like that, condescending prat”
Much milder than his grandfather, his father or his sainted aunt. And nobody suggested they should “step back from Royal Duties”....

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 16:23

“Personally I think the whole royalty thing no longer fits in this modern world, same goes for religion.“
Absolutely.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/10/2019 16:31

Personally I think the whole royalty thing no longer fits in this modern world, same goes for religion.

No argument here.

VladmirsPoutine · 04/10/2019 16:31

Exactly and poor Camilla was ripped to shreds for years. None of that counts apparently, that's whataboutery you see. It's ok if Kate's family were slated bacause they were middle-class and white. No I'm not sure why it doesn't count either.

I'll tell show why. Because of this:

You want to talk about hypocrisy...

“It's ok if Kate's family were slated bacause they were middle-class and white”
No, it isn’t, of course. But the Middletons have actually cashed in on their royal connections. Their business. And Kate did bugger all for years, waiting for William to make up his mind, which is a bit pathetic, you have to admit. There has never been anything really nasty as far as I know. The snobby stuff about Carole was unpleasant, I absolutely agree.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 16:33

And I have absolutely no sympathy for Charles and Camilla- they definitely brought it on themselves.

VladmirsPoutine · 04/10/2019 16:35

It is double standards. The Royals don't even exemplify this. Look around you. Do you think Barack Obama would have gotten away with even 10% of what Trump has.

Do you think if Michelle Obama had posed in a bikini with a gun and pile of cash it would have been old news the following day much like when Melania did.

Do you think you'd all be charmed by Boris Johnson if he were a black man...

Oh really. So don't tell me anything about those poor 'Middletons'. Someone criticised Carole... god forbid. I have been called a half N-word... so I'm pretty sure Carole managed... I went home and cried.

“Do you think you'd all be charmed by Boris Johnson if he were a black man... ”
Or if he had been black and ignored the only two white men in the front row of his audience........

I thought she worked part time for Jigsaw and her parents company.
It might all have been low profile but the media label of 'waity Katy' does not make it fact does it. Much like other unsubstantiated stuff that we choose to believe or disbelieve as it suits.

Seedling111 · 04/10/2019 16:47

He needs to remember that quite literally the only reason he is wealthy and privileged is because of the media coverage that serves to keep "the royal story" alive.

Other options are available. He could elect to remove himself from royal duty, get a job, pay rent, and position himself as a normal bod, which wouldn't interest the media after the first 6 months of it.

Hes a hypocrite.

He gets paid millions for his job. And his job is to live in the public eye. That's the only job he has. That's the deal.

CorbynsAnorak · 04/10/2019 16:49

I think he looks very flustered and uncomfortable and it’s impossible to tell from the clip what happened before.

He and his wife have been subject to constant media criticism recently and he lost his cool. Everyone needs to give him a break! Perhaps he doesn’t have the ‘correct’ character to perform this sort of role, but it’s not like he asked for it, he’s just doing his best, and he probably feels a massive sense of obligation to continue. Really not sure so many people are so nasty about Harry and Meghan Hmm

crazypeppermint · 04/10/2019 16:50

@VladmirsPoutine

I think it's unfair to downplay how the Middletons felt due to your own experiences. Everyone has experiences that would be considered worse than those of others but you can't downplay what others go through because of this and realistically you have no idea how Carole felt.

I've been called some horrific names and had suffered abuse in public but I'd never compare and downplay how someone else feels.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 16:51

“I thought she worked part time for Jigsaw and her parents company.”

Happy to retract if i’m wrong. I understood she worked part time for Jigsaw for less than a year, then for her family business very part time. Which for a bright young graduate is not really “role model” stuff.

Seedling111 · 04/10/2019 16:53

@CorbynsAnorak

Give him a break? The man makes more in a day than you'd make in a year. All he is asked to do is turn up to a place, be pleasant with people, and then leave. Does that sound like exhausting work to you?

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 16:54

“Other options are available. He could elect to remove himself from royal duty, get a job, pay rent, and position himself as a normal bod, which wouldn't interest the media after the first 6 months of it.”

He wouldn’t even need to get a job.
He’s personally very rich.

VladmirsPoutine · 04/10/2019 16:55

@MauritiusNext Ah yes... that wonderful Boris Johnson that didn't get away with describing Muslim women as appearing like "bank robbers" or "letter boxes", the same Boris Johnson who somehow managed to become PM despite writing about black people as "piccaninnies" and talking about "watermelon smiles". Yes he certainly didn't get away with that.

Do you think Trump would have 'gotten away' with what Trudeau has?

Yes I do... because he actually has!!! I don't know.. a cursory glance through the news would reveal that. I am not condoning blacking up. I'm half black. But do you honestly think if we're tallying up what both leaders have done, that Trump would not get away with 'blacking up'?

You think the thing that would bring Trump down after all he's done is 'blacking up'. That's ridiculous but if it helps you to imagine a much kinder world then so be it. Lucky you. I only wish I was so naive - it would make my life so much easier.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 16:55

“All he is asked to do is turn up to a place, be pleasant with people, and then leave. Does that sound like exhausting work to you?”

And to be fair to him, that’s exactly what he does......

“You mustn't believe everything you read in the papers“
Grin If it turns out she was volunteering for Medecins sans Frontiers the whole time I will abase myself.

VladmirsPoutine · 04/10/2019 17:00

@crazypeppermint I am not 'downplaying' anyone's lived experiences. But I can assure you. There's a black woman out there right now castigating her skin colour, fighting with her hair to be accepted in white society. Carole Middleton holds privilege. I'm sure she felt terrible. But I can categorically tell you that I'd much rather be on the end of privilege and deal with criticism than a life where you feel worthless by virtue of your race. Don't compare apples to pears. I would much rather be a posh white woman and be criticised than a young black woman or indeed man trying to change my demeanour so that I'm not seen as 'angry' or called a n*-word just for sitting on the train trying to get to a job interview in which I'm terrified about even getting the job, not because of my lack of skills but because I might not 'look the part'.

@crazypeppermint And I'm happy to say... I'd rather be shamed or criticised for all the things Carole and Kate have been than because of my RACE. I sympathise with Carole, but she's lucky she's not black.
