It seems very out of character for Harry? Confused I wonder if he misinterpreted and thought she was asking about the lawsuit...

reporter not report

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 13:46

If Harry and Meghan are a completely completely different category to William and Kate why do people expect equal access to their children?

Cinammoncake · 04/10/2019 13:46

The Government of the UK paid for their trip to SA

It wasn't a holiday though, so I don't think it'd be fair to expect them to pay to go on this Confused
They get so much shit, can't help feeling that there's an element of racism in it all.

If I was them I'd retire from public life and move to US or Canada. Wouldn't surprise me if they do that once the Queen is no longer with us

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 13:47

I’m not sure what the Sky reporter was saying - is there a longer clip?

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 04/10/2019 13:50

Also, there’s none if this ‘Wills is in a completely different category’ when it comes to access to, photographs of and behaviour around the children.

This is such an illogical argument. They are in the same category in terms of expectations of their behaviour, and in another category with regards to their status and financial expectations. Just as minor and senior employees are in the same category when it comes to observing a basic code of conduct and in another category when it comes to their status or financial expectations

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 13:54

Oh, I don’t know- people say “they should show us the baby because we pay them” I think it would be entirely reasonable to show less of the baby for less money! Grin

Incidentally, they didn’t show less of the baby, that’s a myth too. Meghan just didn’t do a hospital steps photo call. Which considering the Mumsnet outrage about Kate being expected to appear immaculate hours post partum, I would have expected huge support for.

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 04/10/2019 14:00

Personally I don’t care if they show the baby or not, what came across badly was the contrived drama around both the birth and christening, making an announcement to say there would be no announcement, announcing that labour had started after the baby had in fact been born and launching ‘artistic’ black and white pics of the baby’s feet on Instagram like a teenage influencer looking to maximise likes. It all feels quite attention-seeking and undignified.

I’m sure they see all this as evidence of them being ‘different’ and ‘rolling their own way’ but it isn’t very royal behaviour.

angell84 · 04/10/2019 14:03

There is definitely an element of racism in it.

My black friend told me that she gets abuse in England every week, and that she has to be so wary of where she goes.

She told me about the last incident. She told me that she had gone round to a friend's house. She knew that this friend was not racist so she thought it would be ok to go to his house. His dad comes down the stairs and said "why did you bring that n*** cunt into my house, take it out",

We need to take a long hard look at our country, and see what we can change with attitudes to racism

And quite a long press interview with Harry the same day, an interview with Harry and Meghan two days later, a historic picture with her Maj, Philip and Doria the same day.......
The foot picture might not be to your taste, but it was more tha. We had of any of the Cambridge children at that stage.

I agree the going into labour announcements were a bit odd- but nobody knows how/why that happened. Maybe cock up, maybe conspiracy. Ditto the christening. Maybe the godparents wanted privacy? Who knows. I cut a bit of slack for people in the 3 months after having a baby.

VladmirsPoutine · 04/10/2019 14:27

Which considering the Mumsnet outrage about Kate being expected to appear immaculate hours post partum, I would have expected huge support for.

Absolutely. The cognitive dissonance is astounding when it comes to the Duchess on this site and indeed across various media platforms.

VladmirsPoutine · 04/10/2019 14:30

She doesn’t identify as black either.

Just as a point of fact. Much like you can't identify your way out of sex, you can't do so either with race Hmm. That's not opinion - it's basic biology.

MissEliza · 04/10/2019 14:41

It was the absolutely right thing not to pose on hospital steps but they should have just followed that logic and not held any kind of press conference. If little Archie is to be regarded as a normal citizen, then set the expectations from day one. Have a normal birth announcement and then maybe a picture after a couple of days. I personally don't want to know if someone's in labour! They really should do away with that.

ThebishopofBanterbury · 04/10/2019 14:42

Just watched the video, god it's not that bad! Think people are overreacting a bit here. Not like he told her to fuck off or something.

morningcoffee22 · 04/10/2019 14:46

public prefer Kate because she is white and English.

Racists will, no doubt about it, but a lot of us judge people on the person not the colour.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 14:47

“It was the absolutely right thing not to pose on hospital steps but they should have just followed that logic and not held any kind of press conference.”
That’s a new one! Not being private enough!

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 14:48

“Racists will, no doubt about it, but a lot of us judge people on the person not the colour.”

So you know her personally? Sorry- didn’t realise.......

MissEliza · 04/10/2019 14:57

@BertrandRussell I know! But that's honestly what I think they should have done.

MangoFeverDream · 04/10/2019 15:03

The palace are for sure leaking damaging things about them (maybe it’s Andrew’s camp?) but the media do protect W&K for some reason while the claws are out for H&M. They make so many missteps though so it’s hard to defend them

VladmirsPoutine · 04/10/2019 15:05

Mango Although we may never know... but I doubt had Harry married Cassida (sp?), there would be this level of vitriol. Of course criticism of a future spouse of a senior royal is par for the course c.f. Kate. But there's a much more sinister, nefarious tone when it comes the this particular Duchess.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 15:07

“They make so many missteps though so it’s hard to defend them“

List some that aren’t a) completely fabricated or b) exactly what all the other Royals of about the same age do...

KatyCarrCan · 04/10/2019 15:09

Mango William will be King. His reputation is linked to the continuation of the monarchy. Put simply, Harry isn't as important.

morningcoffee22 · 04/10/2019 15:17

@morningcoffee22 when has she ever described herself as Caucasian?

I have always heard her referring to herself as "mixed race", or a woman of colour.

I have to say, I thank God that I am not black sometimes. I really would not be able for the amount of abuse and harassment aimed at me.

How the hell Is it abuse of her to state a fact (all of us can only believe what we read) but she identified as Caucasian on her Hollywood profile. Yes she did, no big deal so why deny it, she had her reasons.......Then she changed it in S Africa. I’m sick of any discussion of her getting bogged down with the bloody odd insistence that anything negative about her is because of racism. No it isn’t, MM is a highly privileged woman, she certainly doesn’t typify what the average black person has to suffer on a daily basis. We can criticise Meghan Markle according to how she is, just like we did with Sarah Ferguson, Diana (who got ripped apart before she died) and anyone else in the royal family who make themselves high profile. Stop bringing race into it all the time. Some people are racist but most of us aren’t. It’s actually an insult to her and those of us who dare to criticise her.

KatyCarrCan · 04/10/2019 15:20

Bertrand there have been lots of missteps, not necessarily Harry and Meghan's because it could have been their staff but honestly, their PR has been a disaster.
We don't know any of these people. All we have is their public image and the Royal Family worked very hard to rehabilitate the monarchy's image after Diana, and indeed, to improve Harry's after the Nazi costume, Vegas party, etc. A lot of that goodwill towards Harry has been lost and I don't think it's a co-incidence that Harry has made lots of changes in his/their team and suddenly their media strategy is embarrassingly poor.

angell84 · 04/10/2019 15:21

@morningcoffee22 there is huge racism thrown at Meghan. You have to be blind or in denial not to see it.

It kind of reminds me of when some men say that the gender pay gap does not exist. When all evidence shows that it does exist.

I see the same with people saying that racism doesn't exist. It doesn't happen to them, so WHO CARES. Lets just say that it doesn't exist.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 15:24

“Bertrand there have been lots of missteps, ”

Such as? As I said- things which are a) real and b) not just normal royal behaviour.
