To mourn MN as it was in the Moulden Days

GregoriaTheGreat · 02/10/2019 21:59

Admittedly, it was not perfect (full of quiches and Queen Bees). So much so that I gave it a rest for a considerable while. I may even have Flounced at some point (though was not a Mouldie. I would never have been cool enough).

But I now mourn the Olden Days when nobody had to bother with "lighthearted" when a thread was evidently lighthearted. Nobody took everything quite so seriously, even when they would have good reason to.

Posters generally had a decent command of spelling and grammar, too.

Maybe I'm just old and need to take up knitting or something.

hello honey and magi!

mack a rolls? Did I enjoy them? What the devil are they? I bet I did.

LeQ was mental, once you saw that you could only feel sorry for her.

IfNot · 04/10/2019 15:38

LeQ was genuinely hilarious. The thing that sticks in my mind is when she said she saw her role as a parent as that of gracious hostess, providing a pleasant environment and intermittent trays of nibbles to her immaculately behaved daughters. Grin
FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse is one of my favourite usernames ever, but where does it come from?
Whatever happened to Tiggy? He was very funny too.

magimedi · 04/10/2019 15:40

Mack rolls (with smoked mackerel) from Judges bakery in Hastings. Am sure it was you who was also fond of them!

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 15:47

magi - oh yes, days long gone sadly

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 15:48

I remember LeQ's stairs in the kitchen

magimedi · 04/10/2019 15:49

They are not as nice as they used to be, Hully & they give me indigestion nowadays.

untoldstories · 04/10/2019 16:00

LeQ still treads the boards, after multiple name changes she still wafts up with a pop of colour now and again.
You can spot her a mile off.

Nanamilly · 04/10/2019 16:07

Are Crumbs and LeQ the same person?

M3lon · 04/10/2019 16:16

wasn't fuckyouchris from the thread about the horse abandoned in a field, because the person who had bought the field obviously wouldn't mind people leaving spare horses in it?

There was a whole series of threads planning a festival...it had goats in it....

MerryMarigold · 04/10/2019 16:19

It's been fun reminiscing all the names. I have a terrible memory but have felt like I've gone on a jaunt down memory lane. I joined in late 2005 with a few breaks. I used to like recognising posters even though I wasn't in the in crowd. I once made 'thread of the day'. That was s glorious moment!

I still enjoy MN but you have to seek out the right threads. The troll threads really about me though.

TanteRose · 04/10/2019 16:20

@Fiderer
It's been aaaages Smile

Samcro · 04/10/2019 16:25

has this thread turned it to one of those quiche threads? I used to hate it when a thread was taken over by "in jokes" never got the jokes and found it boring.

AreYouSiriusLupin · 04/10/2019 16:34

I've been here 10 years but frequently name change!

I too remember LeQueen's stairs in the kitchen. And her big planner/diary that absolutely never left the kitchen island. You can spot her posting style a mile off, although I haven't seen her for a while.

GregoriaTheGreat · 04/10/2019 16:42

Well, I'm giving up all hope of reading everything now. I'm stuck on Hully's arse called Gary.

You'll be flayed alive and told to get over it for saying that Samcro because it absolutely never ever happened and if it did then you are just sad for not thinking it's the best thing ever.

GregoriaTheGreat · 04/10/2019 16:51

I see I mentioned my then DC by name in a very old post of mine. I wouldn't do that nowadays. I was asking for advice on how to stop a toddler from escaping from a high chair. I would say 'superglue or rope' if anyone asked me that now, but I'd have to say as well, which would spoil the fun, hun.

OP posts:
Hullygully · 04/10/2019 17:03

Is that what you think, Placid? That is just so so sad

PlacidPenelope · 04/10/2019 17:15

You do love that word sad and applying it randomly to posters and situations don't you Hullygully?

So far anyone who doesn't see the past in the rosy glow you do is sad, anyone who experienced the site differently to you is either sad, unnecessarily feeling that way, or not telling the truth, anyone who directly referenced your (or others) behaviour is sad for doing so, anyone who is remotely critical of the past is sad.

You come across as very defensive and dismissive, did you hope this thread would be all gushing and sycophantic about you and the MN of previous years?

Samcro · 04/10/2019 17:19

To be fair there are threads now that are like a private club.
I never got on well with the long running bar type threads back in the day. I always got lost.
Did like the song game and word one though.

PhilomenaButterfly · 04/10/2019 17:19

Has Tiggy gone?! 😱

GregoriaTheGreat · 04/10/2019 17:20

This did happen (to me). But I still appreciated the quick, often stinging wit, and the slightly surreal nature of MN Back In The Day, even if I wasn't in any quiche.

Far rather that than the endless 'So, I d'ont like my MIL', or 'So,I've fallen out with my BFF' (cue a PhD-length post detailing every message sent between them), or 'So, I of got a problem with my wedding seating plan'.

OP posts:
Hullygully · 04/10/2019 17:23

Oh you have seen right through me to my rotten desperate craving core. I wanted random strangers to prostrate themselves at my feet an d offer love to fill the aching void where my soul should be.

I have had many terrible and awful experiences and only the worship of strangers can heal me.

Is that so bad? Can you be so steely of heart you would deny me the loving balm I so tragically need?

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 17:24

Sorry, my last was to that wicked fairy at the cradle, dear little Placid

PhilomenaButterfly · 04/10/2019 17:26

Fiderer! Did we meet on Zombie's thread?

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 17:27

Tell you who I do miss, gorgeous pouting Lazzer Grylls. Is he ever around?
