To mourn MN as it was in the Moulden Days

Admittedly, it was not perfect (full of quiches and Queen Bees). So much so that I gave it a rest for a considerable while. I may even have Flounced at some point (though was not a Mouldie. I would never have been cool enough).

But I now mourn the Olden Days when nobody had to bother with "lighthearted" when a thread was evidently lighthearted. Nobody took everything quite so seriously, even when they would have good reason to.

Posters generally had a decent command of spelling and grammar, too.

Maybe I'm just old and need to take up knitting or something.

Yes! That's her.

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 12:26

Look! I already told you that, Pablo, just up there ^^

HOW DARE YOU IGNORE ME AND ACKNOWLEDGE SOMEONE ELSE?

That is a hanging offence.

katewhinesalot · 04/10/2019 12:29

I have been here forever with loads of name changes and recognise most of the oldies on here but somehow or other the Mouldie bit has bypassed me. Please can someone fully explain what and how it all happened?

PhilomenaButterfly · 04/10/2019 12:30

"What I find really weird (apart from the amount of energy invested in going "You're a right cunt" over and over), is this idea that people summoned each other and flocked.

It's so paranoid. How or what on earth do you think happened?? Do you honestly think anyone somehow (and how would they anyway?) could be arsed to go and "summon" people?? Just so nuts."

Hullygully - It is not paranoid, it would happen from time to time. People can be remarkably petty. Memorably I once disagreed with someone on a thread. Suddenly four of five posters waded in with disproportionately cutting remarks aimed at me that were pretty OTT and 'defending' the other poster. Smelling a rat and more than a bit curious, I searched what other threads that poster had contributed to that day and found an ongoing postnatal thread where she and others were regulars. Lo and behold she had remarked on that thread that someone had given her a hard time elsewhere on the boards and posted a link. Some of her buddies then vowed to wade in and sort it. I think I then posted on this postnatal thread "busted" or something similar and they were all deeply affronted that I had read their 'private' discussion (as if you can have such a thing on the boards). It was all a bit silly, but that sort of thing would happen (not so much now)

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/10/2019 12:31

Expats DD is Aillidh.

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 12:33

kate - I was away when it all happened so came back to find a schism had happened. Worse than the three popes one.

A group of original MNers decided the place had gorn to the dawgs so went off and set up on their own. Fine, except that they decided original members could request others joined, subject to a blackball process. Sadly yet inevitably people found out and understandably there were some really hurt feelings. Not helped by the fact that they would often still come here and talk about how great it was. Also they invited Justine which was really a bit odd.

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 12:34

Limitisup

Well I am astonished. I don't know how people can be arsed

PablosHoney · 04/10/2019 12:35

Grin Sorry HullyGully I totally missed that, Thanks

Peridot1 · 04/10/2019 12:36

Expat’s DD was Ailidh.

It’s sad that she and MrsDere don’t post anymore. But I think for some people who are bereaved and post here a lot here becomes too entwined with their grief. Maybe. Obviously there are probably many other reasons they stop posting.

It’s nice to see old names pop up on these threads.

At the end of the day the place isn’t perfect but then again who among us is really? MN is made up of so many different people now. From all walks of life.

I do think in some ways it can be a lot tougher. I wonder often if people would say to people’s faces what they say on here or tell others in here to say to friends and relatives.

Onebatmother · 04/10/2019 12:37

Hello @BertrandRussell - I miss you too! And @WooMaWang, vive les wankers!

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 12:39

I miss the ipoat threads. Now they really were hilarious fun

PablosHoney · 04/10/2019 12:41

Yes that makes sense Peridot1

MargoLovebutter · 04/10/2019 12:41

waves at Kate. No idea what the mouldie thing is either. I'm rubbish at identify or noticing cliques or schisms or anything like that. I've only just put two and two together with the moulden days thing, as I just thought it was a play on mouldy and olden. I'm very slow on the uptake!

katewhinesalot · 04/10/2019 12:42

Thanks Hully

I remember my husband moaning as I was ignoring the kids whilst furiously debating whether it was reasonable to rescue your dog from a fire before your own kids! It was then I realised I had a problem and stepped firmly away :)

PablosHoney · 04/10/2019 12:45

I was of the opinion it was indeed unreasonable, for clarity!

FizzyGreenWater · 04/10/2019 12:55

It was more different than you think if you come to think of it

ipoat
nobdies
wolefs

the past is a different country indeed.

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 12:57

yy fizzy

happier times

EvenPhilip · 04/10/2019 12:59

It's all gone a bit Pete Tong if a thread about a croissant has to have a 'light hearted' disclaimer in the title.Confused

OytheBumbler · 04/10/2019 13:03

Were the Wolef's the ones who spotted people wearing arctic wolf jumpers?

I always think of that thread at this time of year when the jumpers come out. Grin

TanteRose · 04/10/2019 13:04

Bloody hell - IPOAT!
Totally forgotten about those threads

Fun times Smile

CarolDanvers · 04/10/2019 13:04

Also, long lasting and persistent resentment, bitterness and anger will cause inflammation in the body and is really bad for your health. So maybe do some yoga or mindfulness or something instead.

Indeed. Good advice for anyone feeling a bit heightened and "got at" on this thread or any other Smile

Soola · 04/10/2019 13:09

@OytheBumbler on the back of that thread myself and my then colleagues organised a wild fleece meet up! We bought them from eBay and a few had relatives they nabbed them from!

I’m now married to an American and the wolf fleeces you can buy in America are out of this world! 😂
