To think Boris Johnson is actually a terrible public speaker.

Listening to his speech on the radio. It's very stilted lacks flow and certainly isn't soaring oratory.

Not natural sounding, not funny either.

Regardless of what you think of his poliitcs is there anyone who thinks he is a good speaker?

Upping the ante because you didn’t get your own way earlier, riperhubarb?

Now why would somebody push to get a whole thread deleted, because some posts are critical of Boris? Ostensibly because of -gasp! - somebody using a rude word about him?

Are you new to MN? Or indeed the UK? We still have free speech here, you know. Just.

LellyMcKelly · 04/10/2019 06:43

He’s just dreadful. An embarrassment to our country. An expensive education and absolute self belief have propelled him to a position for which he is deeply unsuited. He is completely out of his depth. Boris Johnson should be doing physical stand up ‘comedy’ at a provincial arts centre, not running the country. He is absolutely devoid of gravitas.

BalloonSlayer · 04/10/2019 06:47

I detest Boris and am rather disappointed by reading the transcript of that recording.

I am sorry to say that he sounds extremely reluctant to help Guppy and I don't think there's any chance whatsoever of using that as proof "beyond reasonable doubt" that he had any intention of actually providing the guy's address. Did he actually provide it in the end?

Gutted.

It is pretty simple as to what people can say - they can be rude about Corbyn and BJ and anyone else even if that person is a sensitive plant who doesn'tl ike to be told they are fat or have a weird nose or their clothes are awful, but we can't break the law so libel is not allowed. That is all.

There is no doubt we Conservatives are doing pretty well at the moment and Corbyn is unlikely to win the next election. However we cannot be complacent and every vote will count.

MarshaBradyo · 04/10/2019 07:57

I know the threads riperhubarb means and I don’t think this should go. But the other ones most definitely shouldn’t have - esp as not a thread about a thread.

But yes double standards.

Measured underrated, yes probably. Sometimes I found it hard to engage enough to listen and to hear those awful catch phrases over and over.

Last part about TM

Piglet89 · 04/10/2019 08:02

@Clavinova yeah I suppose that’s what happens when you’re an arrogant, entitled, spoiled prick like Johnson.

“Have you (finally) combed your hair?”

“No, my fag did it for me.”

What a time to be alive. Jesus wept.

Piglet89 · 04/10/2019 08:04

@LellyMcKelly I agree with every word of what you’ve said. He’s an embarrassing disgrace.

Sashtag · 04/10/2019 09:00

I think he's a poor speaker, that speech to the police a couple of weeks ago was particularly cringe inducing.

I assume his inchonerent babbling it's meant to be a part of his appeal though - oh look, even the prime minister can't string words together, he's just like that harmless old drunken man down the pub.

Laylar360 · 04/10/2019 09:15

It's like Trump - politics for people who don't like politics or substantive debate, but enjoy larger than life characters and vague appeals to patriotism.

Tolleshunt · 04/10/2019 10:04

Spot on Laylar

I used to think that for good public speaking the main secret was practice practice practice and if you were confident it didnt matter whether you understood the content particularly.

However having worked with people over the years who i have seen present projects/research etc I have realised that confidence in your subject and the understanding behind the words can shine through.

Sadly i can think of several policiticans who I often think "you don't really understand/believe what you are saying" The words sound hollow.

Im also not keen on anyone who appears to evade questions by just parroting the lines they have been given. It looks so obvious that they are avoiding the questions.

^The Torygraph and the Fail will keep plumbers busy unblocking your drains.

Contrary to the impression you may have gained from imported videos, plumbers do not come to your house quickly, neither are many of them fit.^

The Jeremy Vine story (and JV himself should be applauded for the quality of his writing there) indicates that we have now reached the end of politics. It’s now all about form over substance. Doesn’t matter what you believe in (if you believe in anything) what you promise to do, or what you actually do. It’s all about the comedy, the diversion from the absurdity and tragedy of life. As long as we can have a laugh on the inevitable slide to disaster, we are happy. We truly deserve the shit we’ve elected. Jeremy Corbyn with his serious principles and his allotment? No. Let’s all have a laugh at this buffoon. What a great guy. He’s only in it for himself, you say? The buffoonery is all an act? Well isn’t that more fun than actually having to THINK??
As a pp said, what a time to be alive. If I roll my eyes any more, they’ll stick like that.

kabalarian · 30/09/2020 17:54

Dreadful at public speaking.
No improvement in this last year.

SallySeven · 30/09/2020 17:57

I looked in vain for the voting button on this.
OP yanbu.

I know some people rate him but I just don't get him.
Don't suppose he's bothered though.

CupoTeap · 30/09/2020 18:11

Doliv63 · 30/09/2020 18:16

I actually cannot deal with his voice and he cannot string a sentence together ! I actually feel almost embarrassed on his behalf!

MarshaBradyo · 30/09/2020 18:17

He’s ok with a pre-recorded script

SallySeven · 30/09/2020 19:33

Doliv63 feel acute embarrassment when listening to him.

SallySeven · 30/09/2020 19:34

Sorry: I feel acute embarrassment when listening to him.
