Listening to his speech on the radio. It's very stilted lacks flow and certainly isn't soaring oratory.

Not natural sounding, not funny either.

Regardless of what you think of his poliitcs is there anyone who thinks he is a good speaker?

OP posts:
riperhubarb · 03/10/2019 06:20

MNHQ you recently pulled a thread that got personal to some you tubers.
Can you clarify why people can slag Boris Johnson off though and accuse him of beating his girlfriend up when it's not been proven and generally character assassinate the man based on their own views and opinions?
I'm not a fan myself but is this allowed here?
Is it because he's male? Is it because he's a politician?

Butchyrestingface · 03/10/2019 06:22

Is it because he's male? Is it because he's a politician?

No, it’s because he’s an irredeemable cunt.

ChocChocButtons · 03/10/2019 06:22

I think he’s a good public speaker. I liked his speech last week.

riperhubarb · 03/10/2019 06:26

I think this thread should get pulled based on the double standards of what's been previously not allowed to have been discussed.

ChocChocButtons · 03/10/2019 06:34

@riperhubarb This board is full of double standards. I got my account frozen because of strong opinions.

yet ppl are allowed to call Boris Johnson a C**t which is disgusting.

user1471448556 · 03/10/2019 08:19

All the Boris defenders on here ... in the era of MeToo ... knowing how Brexit will have far more negatives impacts on women than men ... recognising the synergy between Boris and Trump and what that could mean for the NHS and maternity rights ... mind blown! What a strange world we live in.

noblegiraffe · 03/10/2019 08:46

I watched the Mash Report the other week and they pointed out that even at the BBC, with antsy lawyers who are careful about libel, they were allowed to have ‘Boris Johnson is a racist and a liar’ up in flashing lights because it would absolutely stand up in court that he is a racist and a liar.

I don’t see why MN should pull a thread full of facts about Johnson, like he conspired to have a journalist beaten up, or that he’s a racist and a liar, that he won’t admit how many children he has, that he was too scared of hecklers to give a speech, that he gave thousands of pounds of public money to a ‘close friend’ and abused his power to get her on trade missions.

People concerned about the post saying that he beat up his girlfriend can request to have that post removed but I don’t see why the rest of the thread shouldn’t stand. Given that it’s factual and about our prime minister.

You have obviously forgotten the fuss surrounding Margaret Thatcher and her son - special access and government contracts for two of the companies he worked for - this doesn't negate the fact that Margaret Thatcher is still regarded as one of UK's greatest post-war PMs.

John Major on the other hand - does his clandestine affair with Edwina Currie (conducted over 4 years) make him a less reliable witness in the Brexit debate or a more reliable witness?

user1471448556 · 03/10/2019 08:57

Clavinova, you're right to point out that we've had other PMs with less than squeaky clean records, but Johnson is taking this to whole new levels .. and my previous point was about the fact that men in power are treated differently in regards to their private life. Reverse the fathering of children by several different partners and I find it extremely difficult to believe that a female in a similar position to Johnson would retain power as PM. Regarding the 'reliable witness' in the Brexit debate comment ... look at the facts. In what way will Brexit benefit ordinary people in this country? How is No Deal going to be compatible with the Good Friday Agreement? Is there a mandate for No Deal when the 2016 ref talked about 'The easiest deal in history' and both major parties promised a 'deal' in their 2017 manifestos. Major is talking about facts. By all means, ignore him if the Edwina thing is troubling you. I will continue to disbelieve Boris when he lies ... and I will continue to think he has questionable morals ... those two angles stand separate for me.

Saddler · 03/10/2019 09:03

I disagree I think he's excellent

riperhubarb · 03/10/2019 09:06

Why isn't this thread being pulled? Calling someone a c--- and accusing them of beating someone is surely libel. Boris could sue MN and what about these trolls effects on his mental health and his family?

Oh hang on, one rule....

Moonmelodies · 03/10/2019 09:09

Strange for Boris to have personally appointed Sajid David, Priti Patel, Kwazi Kwarteng, Rishi Sunak et al into top jobs if he's really a racist.

user1471448556 · 03/10/2019 09:16

Why are some posters trying to shut this thread down? There is no trolling. No one is direct messaging Boris and threatening him. The information I have read on this thread is all within the public domain. It seems like Boris has a willing team of cheerleaders, defending him to the last. How sweet.

noblegiraffe · 03/10/2019 09:17

Margaret Thatcher is still regarded as one of UK's greatest post-war PMs.

Hmm, I can think of a lot of people who would disagree.

Tolleshunt · 03/10/2019 09:18

Aw, poor ickle Boris won’t be able to cope if he’s called out on his calumny. Bless.

Butchyrestingface · 03/10/2019 09:21

Calling someone a c--- and accusing them of beating someone is surely libel.

Accusing someone of beating someone may be libel, ie, if untrue. Since when was calling someone a “cunt” libel?

It was me who called him that, btw. And doubtless will do so many, many times before he finally slithers off in a pool of his slime. Feel free to report my post by all means, and any posts consider “libellous”, but why try to get the whole thread pulled?

noblegiraffe · 03/10/2019 09:25

Strange for Boris to have personally appointed Sajid David, Priti Patel, Kwazi Kwarteng, Rishi Sunak et al into top jobs if he's really a racist.

And Trudeau has changed his twitter profile pic to a photo of himself with a black man, so we can now safely ignore his black face hobby?

He’s really a racist because of his history of making casual and derogatory racist remarks, which he was called on in Parliament to apologise for. Guess whether he did.

Here’s a nice 1933 image of one Adolf Hitler hugging a little Jewish girl. Heartwarming. What a lovely man. ❤️❤️❤️

To think Boris Johnson is actually a terrible public speaker.
noblegiraffe · 03/10/2019 09:45

Clav ignoring Boris Johnson’s car crash of a personal life, his appalling racism, his abuse of power - he’s also a shit PM.

Lost record-setting tonne of votes, unlawfully prorogued parliament, lied to the queen, lost his majority, sacked Winston Churchill’s grandson, kicked Ken Clarke out of the Tory party and he has only been in the job a few weeks.

areyoubeingserviced · 03/10/2019 09:49

Totally agree Op
I thought that he was terrible

easyandy101 · 03/10/2019 09:51

The only thing he can do is speak imo

Not a fan of his at all but I couldn't criticise how the speeches or answers are delivered, I just cannot abide the content

Most political rhetoric is empty, in that he's no different

Xenia · 03/10/2019 09:54

I think he speaks quite well and he is also quite popular. However we are all entitled to hold our own views.

I do think he is far too middle of the road, high spending etc however. i never seem to get small state low tax Tories but there we are. I live in hope.

riperhubarb · 03/10/2019 10:55

We aren't all defending him I think we are just wondering why a certain The Guardian columnist and influencer couldn't be openly discussed and criticised when clearly Boris Johnson can. Surely they both have the same rights to privacy/access to lawyers as one another. Just sayin'.

Clavinova · 03/10/2019 11:08

Not forgetting of course, that Boris Johnson's estranged wife and the mother of 'four' Wink of his children is half-Sikh;

"Marina Wheeler, 55, is the daughter of the then BBC’s Delhi correspondent, Sir Charles Wheeler and his second wife, Dip Singh (an Indian Sikh) who married in Delhi in 1961."

"Dip Singh who is still alive, is the niece of late Indian editor and legendary writer, Khushwant Singh, and grand-daughter of Sir Sobha Singh who built Lutyens’s Delhi."

kicked Ken Clarke out of the Tory party

I like Ken Clarke as well, but all this nonsense about him being the PM in a 'government of national unity' - Ken Clarke must be one of the most pro-EU MPs in the House of Commons.

He appears to have been the only Conservative MP to vote in favour of the Lisbon Treaty in 2008 and he's the president of the Conservative Group for Europe;

user1471448556 · 03/10/2019 11:39

Well, based on your concern about Ken Clarke, Clavinova, I suggest Corbyn as leader of a government of national unity. He has proclaimed he will stay neutral in the Brexit debate ... so he sounds like the best candidate to save Britain from a No Deal disaster and bring the country together. What do you reckon?
