And about time, too. They never stop castigating her.

Prince Harry has said that he's worried that she'll end up being the same kind of victim that his mother was with regard to the Press.

I hope she wins her case.

OP posts:

You cannot have a foot in both camps. Someone should break it to her.

Ruefaro · 02/10/2019 13:00

"
What about her not doing what other royals do:

  1. Announcing the godparents of her child.
  2. Appearing with her newborn on the steps of the hospital when leaving.
  3. Publishing a picture of their baby on the day of the Christening (one where you can actually see the baby)."

🤣🤣🤣 really? This is your concern?

BatshitBertha · 02/10/2019 13:01

I'm not really a fan of Megan (I find her too extravagant and spendy, which I feel is insensitive) however nobody deserves to be picked apart daily by the tabloids like that.

Thomas Markle is vile for leaking that private letter to the press, a fathers' role is to protect his DC and he's thrown her to the vultures. They've made the right decision in not letting him anywhere near their baby or family.

She must be feeling such a sense of betrayal from her family and then to be attacked in the press throughout her pregnancy.

I really hope her and Harry turn public opinion around, and she begins to better 'read' the public by toning down the 'in your face' celebrity lifestyle. The signs are good if the SA trip are anything to go by.

SaraNade · 02/10/2019 13:01

@QualCheckBot Oh the irony! Personal attack you? Really? You are entirely over-sensitive and highly strung if you I have made any personal attacks at all on you, especially in light of your latest tirade which, while proving you are irritated that you were called out on the disgusting things you've said, does not even go anywhere near explaining the bizarre thought processes one would need, to suggest what you've suggested.

I think Meghan knows her father more than you. I think she knows that meeting with him would have made zero difference to how this reads and is dissected later. If you truly believe her meeting with him (and you don't even know that she didn't, or didn't try, or even was in phone/skype contact with him, you know absolutely nothing) would have solved everything, you are beyond delusional and naive, as well as petty and nitpicking. But do try again to do damage control over your disgusting post that was rightfully called out by myself and others. If this is how you attempt to clarity in communication, it is just as well that Meghan isn't taking your advice!

Orgyofsausages · 02/10/2019 13:03

I'm surprised the Mail can afford it tbh - they lost hundreds of thousands on the back of at least two libel cases Katie Hopkins lost under their auspices. Gosh they do pick 'em don't they? tsk.

Of course it's a racial issue - they hate Meghan because she isn't British and isn't white. Whoever fails to see this central fact is a true simpleton.

QualCheckBot · 02/10/2019 13:03

Erm, maybe get a hobby or something?

MorrisZapp · 02/10/2019 13:04

'Kate is never called Kate Middleton'

Eh wtf?? That's all she's ever called by the public. I'm aware she has a duchess title but I'd have to google what it was.

Why are people barking mad on this subject?

BatshitBertha · 02/10/2019 13:08

Would you really meet with a father who sold your private correspondence to the press?

What good could possibly come from a meeting with him, any move she makes and he will gather more ammunition against her. The only thing she can possibly do is 'grey rock' him and go NC.

SaraNade · 02/10/2019 13:09

@QualCheckBot "No, I don't have such a habit.

Absolutely right I said those words. Is there something to be spun out of that particular viewpoint in your latest personal attack on me?

I know you think everyone should have uniform views or they should be expelled from the human race or something, but these aren't especially abhorrent views to express, and they are shared by a number of posters on this thread.

Its the fact that I'm gently mocking you that's irritating you so much, isn't it?

I'll actually do you a courtesy you don't deserve and explain why I think it would have been better for MM to have handled her father better. Firstly, its been terrible publicity for her and it will haunt her all her life, because even with little nitpickers like you constantly on the case, it will never die away. People will always comment on this. I suspect when people write autobiographies of the woman in 100 years time, it will still be getting dissected in detail. Secondly, the Royal Family at its best sets a good example of how to behave well in public. Granted it doesn't always succeed, but it can be better if you are in the public eye to turn the other cheek, to be holier than holy in your response to bad behaviour.

So sorry to disappoint your excitable little mind, but I said that not because I am the second coming of the antichrist but through a logical process called thought. Not clearly one which you can imagine yourself but one which I am entitled to have.

Keep trying with the censorship thing though!*

Yes, after this obsessively long screed which reads as you frothing at the mouth while furiously banging on your keyboard/phone to tap your essay out, someone should definitely get a life. 🤣🤣🤣

Dongdingdong · 02/10/2019 13:09

People go NC on Mumsnet for much less!

bellabasset · 02/10/2019 13:13

I agree with her taking the paper to court. She wrote a personal handwritten letter to her father. Clearly he had passed it on or shown it to other people.

Legally the copyright belongs to her apparently, it's a personal matter, nothing to do with anyone else. Sadly her father doesn't learn does he? No wonder Harry is so angry about it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/10/2019 13:14

It's not for me to say whether this prosecution's wise or not, but I'd love to be a fly on the wall during the inner family's discussion's about it. Given their habit of closing ranks against those considered to have brought anything unpalatable upon them, I can't help wondering if the fact that this is Meghan's letter, Meghan's father and Meghan's case might have left her a little exposed

Time will tell I guess, but given that the chances of Thomas Markle NOT revealing the letter were close to zero, the outcome will be interesting

QualCheckBot · 02/10/2019 13:15

BatshitBertha Would you really meet with a father who sold your private correspondence to the press?

But he didn't do that before the wedding, and Harry didn't meet him.

I think it would be difficult for anyone without a lot of support to appear at a royal wedding in a prime supporting role. If he was that bad, why invite him to walk her down the aisle?

ChicCroissant · 02/10/2019 13:16

I thought the grey rock technique was minimal contact and generally ignoring them to reduce the flow of drama. Starting a court case that involves them wouldn't fit into that at all, it is the opposite of grey rock!

WhatTiggersDoBest · 02/10/2019 13:17

Good on Meghan I hope she wins. I read the Fail on Sunday article (it's also in Mail Online) to find out why she was suing and I want her to get a full apology and compensation.

Moknicker · 02/10/2019 13:18

@BertrandRussell
Well if it does it does. For all we know she is an awful human being- maybe we’ll find out.
-----
Shes not on trial for her character. Witch hunts - at least in the courts - are not legal anymore.

The MoS is on trial for copyright infringement. That is hopefully the issue which will get tested here and their journalistic ethics.

SaraNade · 02/10/2019 13:18

@ChicCroissant This court case seems to be aimed at stopping the media harassment of her, more so than at her father.

@Ponoka7
"Kate is never called Kate Middleton."
Yes she is. Even today the press refer to the DOC by her unmarried name in headlines (although they may then go on to refer to her as the Duchess of Cambridge in the body of the article) and she has been married since 2011.

Headline from Daily Mail 02 Oct 2019:
"Demure Duchess! Kate Middleton dons an £825 flowing floor-length dress as she joins Prince William to meet the Aga Khan ahead of their tour of Pakistan".

Headline in Daily Mirror 02 Oct 2019:
"Kate Middleton meets Muslim spiritual leader ahead of visit to Pakistan"

Headline in Daily Express 01 Oct 2019:
"Kate Middleton has loyal staff who have 'stuck around a long time' thanks to simple trick"

Headline in The Sun 02 Oct 2019:
"GREEN GODDESS Kate Middleton and Prince William arrive to meet billionaire Muslim spiritual leader, 82, ahead of Pakistan trip"

As a PP on this thread said, let us all try to be accurate in what we write. We shouldn't criticise journalists and then write inaccurate stuff ourselves.

Mollymoo01 · 02/10/2019 13:29

Equally you can’t possibly believe all of the articles on BlindGossip are false especially as it has only your very narrow experience of one actor and his wife.

It really comes down to what PH and MM what to aspire to. Do they want to be royalty? In which case they need to adhere to protocol which unfortunately also means you have basically sold your soul to the general public and press, or do they want to remain more private and control what the press and public see? In which case they need to remove themselves from the practicing royal family and live a more celeb lifestyle.
Or they could remove themselves from public life completely which quite honestly sounds like the best thing mentally for PH.

PortiaCastis · 02/10/2019 13:31

Good for the Duchess I hope she wins, about time the kerb licking press were taken to task, muck raking is pretty low

Jente · 02/10/2019 13:32

Hope she takes the racist scumbags for everything they have.

justasking111 · 02/10/2019 13:32

Just checked 23% think the OP is being unreasonable. Gutless wonders who post anonymously in the Daily Fail such bile. I recall Mumsnet being forced to reveal who had posted some such bile on here. Would be lovely to see the Daily Fail being forced to reveal their posters details.

Rachelover60 · 02/10/2019 13:36

I hope they don't remove themselves altogether. I was concerned (not that it actually affects me of course), that the horrible publicity would push them away and in my opinion they are good ambassadors for this country. Not perfect of course but who is? It also amazed me that one minute the press loved them and the next, they were vilified. Well, that's the media for you, I shouldn't have been surprised but it was such a big about turn. They build people up just to knock them down. What's more plenty of the GBP believe what they read rather than take with a pinch of salt.

The statement from Harry is very good, I think he and his wife will have plenty of support from now on.
