To never go in my little girls room again!?

FedUp1850 · 24/09/2019 00:22

Soooooooo Aragog is residing in my little girls bedroom. He is massive. I just can't go in there. He's been in there for days, I shut the door and put a blanket down at the bottom to hopefully keep it in there.

I'm petrified of spiders. My mum said that her mum put one right up in her face when she was a kid, thinking about it almost sent me into cardiac arrest 😅. Someone help me overcome this irrational fear!

YANBU!
I don't mind spiders and will usually just get rid with a piece of tissue and take it outside. DP is petrified of them so just as well one of us can cope with them.

I was convinced I saw a mouse 2 weeks ago run into my kitchen vent (rented property) they sent out pest control. He has sealed all possible entry's but I noticed the vent is broken so I covered that up ASAP! The pest control man did say it's fine to take off the cover now that he has sealed but I'm not taking it off at all with a broken vent! The plinth is also broken which he is replacing tomorrow I've already asked him to replace the vent with a close able one or very small holes. Fingers crossed he brings a new vent tomorrow! 😩😩 I'm petrified of mice/rats!

I hate big spiders too but somehow motherhood gave me courage to deal with them humanely. I put a glass over them, slide a card underneath then take them outside and release them.

JacquettaW · 25/09/2019 20:45

The hoover and/or a can of Raid (the red one) are the best friends you'll ever have!

Things got easier for me over the years of being a single parent. At first, I couldn't even go into the room if I knew there was one in there but now I'm able to either spray them or suck them up with the hoover.

The biggest breakthrough for me has happened in just the last few months. I read somewhere that Daddy Long Legs eat the big fat house spiders so I'm letting those stay and we seem to be getting on alright for the minute (So long as they don't creep up on me!)

Mayday1990 · 25/09/2019 20:50

Omg feel your pain.... I walked into my kitchen the other day and saw similar!! Size of my hand.. I have netting over every open window to stop them coming in but this beast managed somehow!!! Worse.... my so called friend told me they travel in pairs... so every time I enter room now I’m looking for number 2..... ohhh how the usual number 2 (💩💩💩💩) is so much better than beast spider 🕷 number 2....😢😢😬😬🙈🙈😩😩☹️☹️😣😫😫🤬

Mayday1990 · 25/09/2019 20:53

Ohh just remembered what I used in spider season last year... sticky pads .. on sale on amazon ... crawling insect trap... I had one where I usually saw them and then saw one stuck... I know it’s mean.. I’m sorry 😐 Maybe get a few and put them around the room??

contentedsoul · 25/09/2019 20:53

just put a glass over it and then slide paper underneath.
Having said that the spider that walked across the room carpet 2 nights ago would have loved a larger glass as it trapped his legs....it was a pint glass!

Get the spider in da house app and check if it’s merely a helpful pest control spider or a also poisonous one.

Wauden · 25/09/2019 21:04

Let it live, it catches flies for you. Honestly, its not doing anyone any harm!

Sandinyourshoes · 25/09/2019 21:08

Hoovering doesn’t necessarily get rid of spiders - I'd rather put them out with the glass and card method but sometimes if the spider has got into a tight corner the glass won't fit in and knocking them down with a credit card or pen doesn’t work, they get away. They have a tendency to drop suddenly from ceilings. So then I resort to the dust buster. Did this one day then a few days later was emptying the dust buster onto a sheet of old newspaper and the spider ran out across the floor. I then had to stamp on it before it got under the furniture. It was just awful. When they run across the floor there is nothing for it but to stamp - I couldn't live with knowing the spider was hiding in the gaps somewhere. Although I know there will be others there. I know they eat flies but I don’t want a house festooned with webs especially when trying to sell. I had a glass and card in every room in my old house, and its getting like that here. I had to check along and behind the bed with a torch every night because the bed was against the wall. Having the bed in the middle of the room would be better but not practical.

Someone I know used hair mousse, and the lids of hair mousse sprays can be used for smaller spaces.

They must drink occasionally, is that why the bathroom is a favourite haunt? So often when spashing water that's when they appear. And they lurk in towels which is where I found one when I realised I had this fear, aged 8 (early 60s now).

Buy spider reliant plug in from Amazon, open window, plug it in bedroom, close door and leave for couple of days, it'll find it's way out and no more will come in. Just about to buy them myself as I can't cope already with them. X

ElleMac44 · 25/09/2019 21:11

Repellent sorry!

Welltroddenpath · 25/09/2019 21:30

I can’t kill them. Pint glass and card. If you find them near a flat surface it’s easy. Deep breath and move fast. Then take them to next doors back gate as they run back inside. I have found two since Monday

Notreallyhappy · 25/09/2019 21:41

It's a spider for Christ's sake

PinkPanther27 · 25/09/2019 22:01

Buy a spider catcher, we have 3!

Supermum29 · 25/09/2019 22:02

I like you am petrified.... I call my dad to my house to get rid of them, much to his delight!
Imagine my horror when piercing screams came from my dd’s room at 10pm the other night... she moved faster than I’ve ever seen, a quivering wreck because a spider ran down her arm in bed. I swore blind it was probably just her hair! After a very gentle and distanced search of the bed I discovered the biggest house spider I’ve ever seen. Sadly I just had to suck it up and hoover up the spider as my dad was on holiday... my daughter didn’t sleep in her room for days and I do not blame her!!! I feel for you OP.

Dontsayyouloveme · 25/09/2019 22:05

A British Gas engineer got rid of the big beezer 🕷 in my living room today! Always liked British Gas.... 😆

speakout · 25/09/2019 22:07

As I lie in bed I can see two spiders on my bedroom wall, one is about three feet away, the other, larger is in the corner directly above me bed.

Most houses have hundreds of spiders tucked away inside sofas, under beds, behind curtains, we are all probably within 6 feet of a spider- without knowing it -especially at this time of year.

BanditoShipman · 25/09/2019 22:07

I don’t understand people who put them outside, they die outside don’t they? So what is difference in that and whacking them, actually whacking them is kinder? I don’t, I’m too terrified to go in the same room, dh has to.

Eva2020 · 25/09/2019 22:15

LOL....on the bus, people now looking at me. Too funny mamas.

Treeli · 25/09/2019 22:27

oooooo I successfully trained my DD out of being scared of spiders. The final straw was her screaming in the car so loudly, removing her seatbelt and trying to climb in the back seat when we were flying down the motorway because a spider came out of the footwell.

She will happily catch them with glass and a bit of card now and will sleep with one in her room/on the ceiling etc.

Theres no need to live with such fear when you can do something about it!

LollyBeebee123 · 25/09/2019 22:42

I’m also terrified and get that same sense of panic when I see a big one. I hate September it’s when they decide to move indoors. Thankfully by this time next month we’ll hardly see any. I bought a handheld dyson which is now a spider cemetery. But it’s only useful for small and medium spiders as I can’t get close enough to large ones as I’m glued to the spot. The big ones are quite active movers and don’t seem to stay in the one place long, so I’d imagine it’s long gone from your little ones room. Fortunately I do have a spider catcher, but he makes me feel like shit for my ‘over reactions’ he says I’ve passed this on to our children. I know that I have, and feel really awful about it without him making me feel worse. I’ve explained I can’t help it, but he just doesn’t get it.

LollyBeebee123 · 25/09/2019 22:44

Ahhhhhhhh speakout, you’ve made me jump of sofa. Will have to stand now to watch tv! Angry

ReanimatedSGB · 25/09/2019 22:44

A mate of mine once called a minicab and, when it arrived, gave the drier £5 and said, I don't want to go anywhere but can you catch this spider for me?
I used to be terrified of them as well but since DS was born I have somehow got tough enough to do the pint-glass-and-card routine without puking or sobbing or wetting myself...

LollyBeebee123 · 25/09/2019 23:33

Reanimated- that’s a great idea. Thanks👍🏻
