To never go in my little girls room again!?

Soooooooo Aragog is residing in my little girls bedroom. He is massive. I just can't go in there. He's been in there for days, I shut the door and put a blanket down at the bottom to hopefully keep it in there.

I'm petrified of spiders. My mum said that her mum put one right up in her face when she was a kid, thinking about it almost sent me into cardiac arrest 😅. Someone help me overcome this irrational fear!

can’t imagine that a flick of a pair of undies that go up your bum is going to do much against a spider that’s bite has the potential to kill you

I'm sure that back in the Mists Of Time there was a thread where an MNer fended off kitchen dustbin maggots with a pair of knickers.

Spiders, of course, re another matter.

Lady Hales Spider Brooch (I have posted this somewhere else, so forgive me for repeating myself) obviously comes to life when she speaks certain secret Words of Power, and she can send it to roam the land.

AdelaideK · 25/09/2019 18:24

I'm not bothered by spiders but my teenage sons are terrified and shout me to get them Grin so it's not a woman only phobia. That was an odd comment.

I think it was pretty mean to post a picture of a huge spider on a thread where the op says she is terrified. I don't get why someone would find that funny.

helenhighgate · 25/09/2019 18:26

I was same when my daughter was a baby and I asked my neighbour to remove them and I was in tears. Following years, I just made myself put a bowl over them slid card underneath and threw it in garden as didn’t want toddler to see I was scared. Now I can just about ignore them and my daughter now 15 doesn’t mind them! Struggle tho!! Good luck!

Move home!!! Definitely move....

Minxmumma · 25/09/2019 18:38

Phone the landlord to deal with your unwelcome guest! Sorted

Emmas1985 · 25/09/2019 18:43

I have a method to help me deal with the horse sized spiders that seem to want to move in..... it’s called put a huge book on it!! DP catches them in a glass and takes them outside, but if he’s not there I literally throw the book at them cause I’m bloody terrified

LetUs · 25/09/2019 18:53

I really don't mind spiders. How much would any of you be prepared to pay for a professional spider catch to come out? 🤔

winniestone37 · 25/09/2019 18:53

I used to hyperventilate when I saw a spider- it was awful. One day I caught sight of myself in the mirror and said to myself I'm not doing this anymore. Now I'm no longer afraid and find them beautiful.

Musmerian · 25/09/2019 18:57

I once paid my son £8 to hoover up a giant spider. The bugger bargained me up from £3.

London Zoo offer arachnophobia courses culminating in holding a tarantula

I'm fine with tarantulas. They are quite sweet. House spiders - fucksake an abomination.

The tarantula is not compulsory. It is offered for those who would like to try. You don't even have to see it if you don't want to.

OP you need these. Might be seen as cruel by some, but you can check everyday and it draws them out of hiding places. Also I’m less afraid of them now as you get used to seeing the spiders but they’re stuck, if that makes sense. So I’m slowing being desensitised.

Juliehooligan · 25/09/2019 19:27

Just to be really mean, the spider is probably roaming the house now looking for someone to scare! 😈😈😈😈

Jellybubbamama0987 · 25/09/2019 19:41

Due to marrying an a**hole of a husband who refused to move any of the large countryside spiders that used to frequent our house, I was forced to find a way of dealing with them. I hate squishing them due to the crunchy noise they make 🤢 so I would often hoover them up. Now I’ve got to the point where, if they’re on a flat surface, I can catch in a glass and release (non flat surfaces they have to be hoovered up) I am scared of spiders but I had a choice to make thanks to that man and I couldn’t have stayed anywhere where a spider was so I’ve gotten braver. I’m now chief pest remover in my house (new bloke is scared of mice) and I don’t want my little girl to be afraid. My dad used to catch spiders in a bow tie box with a see thru lid when I was a kid and I remember being about 7 or 8 and he put the box on my knee with this huge spider in. I screamed and I knew if I stood up it would escape so I have good reason to be scared of them.

Lovely13 · 25/09/2019 19:45

I have large plastic mug upstairs plus a voting card! For such eventualities. Trap in mug, slide firm paper under, then remove to garden. My nemesis is mice. Hate them. And they keep making themselves at home in my garage. Have nightmares about them...

PonderLand · 25/09/2019 19:47

I'm also terrified of spiders but since having my son I try and deal with them as quickly as possible to stop the fear setting in. If I lose one or can't catch it then I'm on edge until I get it.

I used to put a glass over huge spiders then I'd leave the glass covering the spiders until someone could come and sort it out. I try and catch them in a glass and throw them out myself now but I suddenly get flustered at the thought of the spider remaining in the glass that I end up throwing the spider, glass and card out. The neighbours must think I am loopy but at least I'm kind of dealing with them now.

When my son was a baby I took a photo of him under his play gym, whilst showing my dp the photo I spotted a spider above his head in the photo Sad

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 25/09/2019 19:51

I love spiders and daddy long legs. If you live near me I'll come and get it for you

millimollimandi · 25/09/2019 19:52

I had this scenario when my eldest was a toddler - I ran in, dropped a copy of the yellow pages on it. (In the days when they were huge). The yellow pages stayed there for days until a friend came round and sorted it out. Flowers

Echobelly · 25/09/2019 20:09

I really recommend getting little spider collecting hoovers that allow you to suck them up and drop them outside.

I never used to be able to stay in the same room as a big spider until I got one and then once I had it and knew I could remove them (without harming them - was also freaked out about squashing them!) I was able to be OK about being in the same space and have been ever since.

Still not been as brave as my mum who taught herself to look at them under a glass and then put to put them on her hand under a glass - and she used to really be scared of them!

FlamingoQueen · 25/09/2019 20:22

I used the vacuum last week to get a tarantula from under the sofa. Luckily, it’s a stick vacuum so didn’t have to get too near. Then ran outside and emptied the contents in the garden. Next day went out to pick up the mess - no spider!

Hushhush89 · 25/09/2019 20:37

Hope you've manage to get someone to help remove your unwanted house guest....

mendokusai · 25/09/2019 20:38

is anyone else reading this with their feet up on the sofa / coffee table JUST IN CASE? Blush

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 25/09/2019 20:42

Can you go out and buy a can of Raid Crawling Insects Spray (the red one)? If you spray this liberally in the room, the spider will die.

I do this. Spray one when i see one, put a glass on, shut the door, wait for someone else to deal with it. I keep the spray near my bed in case of emergencies 😅
