To hate "going for a walk?"

I wish I didn't but I just find it so boring! Walking around the same streets, passing the same lamp posts and houses. We live in a fairly decent area and have two lovely dogs. DH walks the dogs twice a day and absolutely loves it but I just find walking so tedious. I wish I didn't hate it as its great to get out and get fresh air etc but I find it such a chore. Anyone else feel the same?

Used to live in NZ with the beach on my doorstep and loved getting out and about so I think that's killed it for me.

DH does the same walking routes day in day out and refuses to take the car out when he goes so he always starts from our house.

I make excuses not to go with him when he asks if I want to join him.

I have found my people Smile

I am happy to walk with a purpose, and will walk for miles around an interesting city or walk to the shops rather than drive, but 'going for a walk' is tedious, boring and mind-numbingly dull.

I also utterly fail to understand country walks: one tree looks pretty much like another and much as I can admire a view I don't need to see it very slowly from various angles, with added mud and smells.

For exercise I go to the gym where I can measure my effort and progress. And watch 'Homes Under the Hammer' guilt-free.

I love walking if actually ^going> somewhere the pub but I detest the notion of "going for a walkc with no 'destination'. Even if it's just to the next village and back, or as far as the top post box, I need a PLAN, iyswim...

Namedafteraship · 23/09/2019 20:03

I’d love to go for a walk with trees fields and lanes. Then I wake up.

CherryPavlova · 23/09/2019 20:04

I’d be bored senseless as would the dog if we’d did the same on lead walk everyday. My husband runs him on the same route each morning but it’s an ever changing scene across the Downs.
I vary almost daily between several routes on Downs, local heath and lake, Forestry Commission land, small beach with woods and longer distance to lovely beach.

Do you guys get bored if you do other things just in your company, like go for a run or a swim or a cycle ride, bounce on the trampoline or row on a rowing machine -- by yourself. Are those equally tedious?

I love watching happy doggos so that alone would make a walk with them fun for me.

Crazyladee · 23/09/2019 20:06

@jenthelibrarian are you me??

I've had a knee injury for 5 weeks and had 5 weeks guilt free of saying "no thanks, you go" to DH. He loves going anyway so it's no skin off his nose. But it makes me feel a little guilty for some reason as if I should enjoy it!

I hate on lead dog walks. But a nice walk across fields, etc is fab.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 23/09/2019 20:09

If it involves a pub I’m up for it

RickOShay · 23/09/2019 20:09

Flowers for you shockers
Sometimes I don’t like the thought of going for a walk, but I’m always glad when I have. I’ve never come back from a walk thinking I wish I hadn’t done that Grin

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 23/09/2019 20:09

I love walks with the sea, hills, scenery to look at. I hate walking around the streets with nothing interesting to see, sounds dull to me.

We went for a walk at the weekend; blue sky, lovely south downs, great views, pub lunch and walk back. I love walks like that.

Crazyladee · 23/09/2019 20:09

No I love going to the gym on my own or with a gym partner.
Love giving the house a good vigorous clean too. That's my workout.
Dogs can't go lead free either so even more bloody boring!

Apologies in advance if I offend anyone with mobility issues.

Like I said in my OP, I wish I did enjoy it!

Get a bit bit to motivate yourself.

No, I love running. Working hard and also the rhythm of my breathing and footsteps is calming like meditation. Pointlessly wandering around does my head in. I'd much rather watch TV with a cup of tea.

bumblingbovine49 · 23/09/2019 20:14

I don't like it.much either. I have started t walk to work ( about 45 mins) on the days I am in the office . It is pretty boring but I listen to podcasts on my phone which really help pass the time

Drogosnextwife · 23/09/2019 20:15

I love it if I'm out in the country, I hate walking around the streets or around the local parks. I much prefer going somewhere else.

peri19 · 23/09/2019 20:16

YANBU

I don't like headphones. Loud music starts to really annoy me. I don't like being unable to hear what's going on around me. So I have to walk in silence. Dull, dull, dull.

carly2803 · 23/09/2019 20:17

i love walking!! i walked at 40 weeks pregnant to get the sprog out.

didnt work but still i enjoyed it!

Dutch1e · 23/09/2019 20:18

I hate it too! I like walking TO somewhere to do something specific, but aimless wandering is irritating.

Although to be fair we don't have a car so walking is just something that needs to be done rather than a pleasurable pastime.

bumblingbovine49 · 23/09/2019 20:18

DH and I sometimes go for walks together. Those are nice as we use the time to talk away from ds's hearing . It is hard otherwise to find time when he is not around if we need to talk about things we don't want DS hearing

Grimbles · 23/09/2019 20:18

I like walking if its walking to somewhere or doing something whilst walking. Even if it's taking the long route to the shop for a pint of milk then I'll do it.

caringcarer · 23/09/2019 20:18

I like walking along a beach front or around a lake or even by a river but not just streets and lamp posts.

Rachelover60 · 23/09/2019 20:20

I've always liked walking but if you don't, so what? We can't all like the same activities.
