AIBU Greta Thunberg?

onalongsabbatical · 22/09/2019 10:34

AIBU to ask everyone who can to get behind Greta Thunberg, even if only online, as she's now getting a lot a lot a lot of hate. She clearly threatens people - especially her polar opposites, men, rich old men, powerful men (did I mention men?). Let's all give her the lurve and support she needs.
So on FB I challenged one just now - Why are you attacking a young woman? - and he disappeared. Funny, that.

@Trewser, you know exactly why people are objecting to the word strange being used about their children!

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 06:32

Trewser you don’t have to add to the volume of disablism with ‘very strange little person’

ChickenyChick · 24/09/2019 06:35

Seeing the word “hysteric” applied to young women like Greta is so misogynistic and troubling

(It comes from the greek word for uterus. How much more misogynistic can you get?! Makes me sad when women use it about other women)

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 06:36

Sexism and disablism is rife in this thread. Shame on those posters.

Trewser · 24/09/2019 06:42

Where have I said tht about a posters child?

Tilltheendoftheline · 24/09/2019 06:53

@Trewser you know exactly what you are saying and I wont engage further.

The 2 car, 2 holidays, takeaway eating, fashion loving, long haul flying generations!

This baffles me. I am now a high ish earner. It's only recently. I havent flown for years. I know one person who does multiple time a year.

On the takeaway on 2 car fronts though, there is lots the government can do. For example. I live near enough to work that I could walk. But ds got into a school a 15-20 minute drive away. Not the local one I could walk him to. So I need a car and have to use it everyday.

I drive 20 mins away from my office to school and then back to work. Then from work and back to school. Its 2 buses to get there and 2 back. Working 8-5 I cant do that. I also have to spend £15 per day. On childcare to do the hours.

Dp is passing his driving test so he can pick him up earlier. It's a long day for an 8 year old. He doesnt want to come is 5.45 and wait for his dinner. Sometimes he is starving. So, yes we do have take aways.

I would produce less emmissions if ds had go into a local school. Maybe not have a car at all, though my car is a work vehicle.

We had 2 cars when I was with exh. Because we both needed to work. It wasnt a luxury. We couldn't both work full time and sort the kids (one ia now almost an adult) without 2 cars. Paying the bills on one wage would have been a struggle and neither of us felt it wa safe to give up earning potential.

I would love to bloody not have a car. Unfortunately in real life its not always practical. No one in my parents generation, that I knew had 2 cars. Lots didnt have one

BeardedMum · 24/09/2019 06:53

No you said it about GT. GT is being called strange, odd, mentally ill, hysterical, an autistic pawn and tyrannical little zealot. And that’s just from scanning the past few pages of this thread.

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 06:55

Trewser just admit you were wrong to use a disablist phrase.

As many of the detractors on here are too.

Jillyhilly · 24/09/2019 07:03

Excellent post @Teacher22. The modern environmental movement has all the old tropes of a tyrannical religious movement. There is One True Belief, there are thousands of faithful acolytes, there are people being converted to the cause. You not allowed to question the doctrine in any way; if you do, you are a “denier” (which is a term that has existed in a theological sense for hundreds of year). It has the inquisition - the people who mindlessly insult you in an attempt to get you to confess your sins (that would be you, Marsha, with your torturous little posts). And now they have their own Messiah, who is suffering for all our sins. Her eventual “death” (breakdown? Who knows?) is pretty much guaranteed I would say. I wonder what her resurrection will look like?

Jillyhilly · 24/09/2019 07:05

Trewser just admit you were wrong to use a disablist phrase.

Haha! Yes, there goes the faithful Inquisitor trying to get Trewser to confess her sins!

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 07:05

Jilly I find your false thick superiority more tortuous

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 07:06

You are nasty pasty Jilly good on you well done

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 07:07

Am laughing about it how do people get so twisted teacher for one

sweetiepie1979 · 24/09/2019 07:11

*Seeing the word “hysteric” applied to young women like Greta is so misogynistic and troubling

I think when most people use the word hysterical they mean not in control of ones emotions, overwrought etc most people would not associate the word with uterus and it can be used to describe either male ir female. Agreed it is used more in the female explanations of an outburst but I do not think the poster who used the word to describe Greta was trying to be misogynistic. Greys was not in control of her emotions and she was overwrought may have been a better description.

Though I have now learnt something about that word thank you.

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 07:12

These posts about the ‘Messiah’ really are unbearable

Sounds like the DM section

Saddler · 24/09/2019 07:14

Erm no. 😂

Chatt3rb0x · 24/09/2019 07:14

They’re just trying to belittle her, it’s shameful.

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 07:15

People really do lack to write this stuff

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 07:23

Even if you loathe her for whatever reason can’t you think about the good in it? Other people get something from it.

Jillyhilly · 24/09/2019 07:26

Seeing the word “hysteric” applied to young women like Greta is so misogynistic and troubling

I heard the Green Party Co-leader, Jonathan Bartley, on the radio the other day. He sounded completely hysterical too.

Are you less troubled now?

BeardedMum · 24/09/2019 07:33

Actually I think we should all be hysterical if we understand how little time we now have to save ourselves from climate catastrophe. It might already be too late. And we have people like Trump in charge.

grumiosmum · 24/09/2019 07:41

As a menopausal woman, I'm definitely feeling hysterical about the scale of the climate crisis.

Pomegranatepompom · 24/09/2019 07:44

There are a lot of sweeping generalisations of the posters with a different opinion, unfairly so.
It's not patronising or critical to say she looked like a child who was struggling and who needs to be protected from this media storm.

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 07:44

Definitely feeling annoyed but reading some of this probably isn’t helping

Trewser · 24/09/2019 07:46

Apparently it is fine to call other posters thick, twisted, nasty etc

Hmm

Calm down marsha, there's only so many times you can be reported.
