For you rugger buggers out there.

My money's on the All Blacks but think there will be strong northern hemisphere repping in the final stages

we're going to have a fry up and a row tomorrow morning

Grin Fab idea (well, the fry-up part!)
JacquesHammer · 21/09/2019 11:20

But JaquesHammer when things are labelled gender neutral, peoples default is to assume it relates to men/a man. Better to label sports Men and Women, helps prevent invisible women. So World Rugby has made a bad choice there

I don’t agree. If the tournaments were running concurrently, it would need specifying. As only one runs at a time, I’m done with “World Cup”. It’s been a bug bear of mine as a female player for 25 years!

mbosnz · 21/09/2019 11:21

I can't bear to bloody well watch! Not happy about hearing about the ball handling errors, they've had plenty of time to rectify that. SA are looking fierce. I don't expect us to win three times in a row, and to be honest, I don't know that it would be good for the game if we did.

But if we lose, at least one of my daughters isn't looking forward to going to school on Monday.

Kia Kaha to the All Blacks!

mbosnz · 21/09/2019 11:22

Wow, just switched on, I like that score better than the last one I saw!

LemonRedwood · 21/09/2019 11:22

World Rugby may have moved away from using sex qualifiers in the women's tournament but I don't think they've ever used them (officially) in the men's?

I agree with GetUpAgain. They should use the sex qualifiers for both, not remove them.

For the past 2 years Saracens have referred to their two top tier teams as Saracens Men and Saracens Women. So in premiership fixtures you'll see Saracens Men v Bath/Wasps/Leicester Tigers/whatever. It's such a small thing but it's actually a huge point of principle and I massively respect them for it.

LemonRedwood · 21/09/2019 11:23

Sorry for the derail there, but I get a bit passionate about it

KimberWozRobbed · 21/09/2019 11:24

Waaaaaaalleeeeeesssss!

jagack · 21/09/2019 11:24

I hope England can but Ireland and SA both look very strong

mbosnz · 21/09/2019 11:29

Says in a very small voice. . . if NZ doesn't win, I'd love Wales to. . .

SuitedandBooted · 21/09/2019 11:30

Wales, mainly because Gats and Alun-Wyn deserve a great finale.

Lets hope we don't have Ireland in the Quarters, followed by a Semi against France, which is refereeded by an Irish/French bloke, who just happens to be a former Irish rugby international. So no skin in the game at all.....

Word Cup 2011
Am I bitter, hell yes!! Grin

YahBasic · 21/09/2019 11:32

Joris Grin definitely a good idea not to row on an empty stomach.

We’ve just had a summer of avoiding discussing the cricket, but when it comes to rugby, he’s more SA than Aussie (he is anti-Aussie rugby since they got rid of his team).

I’m half Irish half English but we lived in SA for a long time so currently sat in my Bokke jersey.

JorisBonson · 21/09/2019 11:32

Wales, mainly because Gats and Alun-Wyn deserve a great finale.

I think that would make me sob!

We don't mention 2011 in our house lol

araiwa · 21/09/2019 11:36

England to win

Rest of the home nations to fail at group stage

Perfect

JacquesHammer · 21/09/2019 11:36

I guess it’s just as simple as different opinions.

When I first played at senior level in 1998, we were made up that our fixture was just “X RUFC” and not “X WRUFC”.

Similarly I’ve never played for a league club that had qualifiers.

mbosnz · 21/09/2019 11:48

I know the 2011 win was contentious, but I'm still so grateful we got it. I lived in Christchurch, and we were going through all the quakes, and Richie and the Cup gave us the will and the spirit to grit our teeth and keep going! It was a bright spot in a terribly dark year.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 21/09/2019 11:48

Im dreaming of Wales winning... Cymru am Byth!

My forecast for it is NZ, SA, Australia, Wales though. Which reminds me... must go to the bookies and put a fiver on that. And a fiver on Wales to show my undying love and support Grin

LemonRedwood · 21/09/2019 12:08

You're right Jacques, it is different opinions. I think having sex qualifiers matters in sport and I think they should be present for both men's and women's. Failing that, I would take neither having a sex qualifier as being infinitely better than just one (i.e. the World Cup and the Women's World Cup).

Both or neither still has everyone on an equal footing.

Anyway, back to the matter in hand...
South Africa seem to have woken up a bit! Let's hope that can give NZ a bit more competition in the last quarter

LemonRedwood · 21/09/2019 12:09

And another drop goal! Always seem to be used so much more in WC games than at any other time Grin

SuitedandBooted · 21/09/2019 12:15

@araiwa
England to win
Rest of the home nations to fail at group stage
Perfect

You little tinker!!

All together now........

JacquesHammer · 21/09/2019 12:18

I can’t see managing to watch every match. It really doesn’t grab me as a spectator sport the way league does.

RuggerHug · 21/09/2019 12:19

Ireland. COYBIG!!!!

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 21/09/2019 12:25

I'm not due until November, but I've already secretly ordered baby a little Welsh kit in case DP gets notions about him being an Irish supporter. Got to make sure he knows the story from birth! Wink

LOL. A household divided. . .

Wakemeuuuup · 21/09/2019 12:37

I'd love if it was Ireland but unfortunately they come up against either RSA or NZ in second round
