DH having a go at me for dressing DD in babygros

TopBoi · 19/09/2019 20:00

DD is 8 months old. Some days I take her out in babygros (nice ones and they're clean) especially days if I think it's a bit cooler as she always pulls her socks off and I think all in one suits are cosier for her.

I sent him a picture of us in the park today and she is in an all in one suit. He said to me "why is she in her pyjamas? Were you really struggling today?" It's really irritated me. I've told him all the reasons I've said here but he says it's the same as me leaving the house in my pyjamas. He's implying I can't dress her properly. AIBU?

Mine were in babygrows till they could walk. They are so much more practical for babies- easy to change, easy to layer and solves the lost sock and associated cold toes problem.

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 19/09/2019 20:17

It's so weird when people put babies in actual clothes like tiny jeans! They look ridiculous and uncomfortable

chocolatebuttonsandcheese · 19/09/2019 20:18

I hate babygrows past newborn stage in the day, however he's still been unreasonable

Drabarni · 19/09/2019 20:18

The clue is in the title.

BABYGRO.

OP's dh what do you dress her in? Is it always pretty dresses like my ds was doing?

I used to change mine from babygro's into pyjamas at night, far easier if they mess the bottoms you just leave the top on.

What does dh think about trousers and top for going out?

sunshineandshowers21 · 19/09/2019 20:19

my baby is almost 1 and she practically lives in baby grows unless we’re going out for something more than an everyday event. it’s comfy for her and she looks mega cute! there’s plenty of time for her to wear ‘proper’ clothes when she’s a little
older.

RedHelenB · 19/09/2019 20:19

Going against the grain here but mine wore clothes( dungarees, dresses etc) at 8 months when they were out and about. Babygris when they were a few months

MrsHarveySpecterV · 19/09/2019 20:20

Sorry but I'm with your DH. I think babygros are pyjamas and didn't take any of mine out in them. It wasn't nice if him to ask if you're struggling today though.

Stephminx · 19/09/2019 20:20

To be fair, I treat my DD’s babygros like PJs, and usually only put them on my 6 month old if she’s had a bad night, is unwell, chewy etc... I tend to dress her in clothes during the day, albeit comfy ones. I also have no real issue if other parents dress their kids in babygros if it’s weather appropriate, clean etc...

My DH might ask if everything was ok if I was out with DD in a babygro (if he even noticed) but it would be coming from a place of concern.

It depends on your DH’s tone - maybe he was concerned rather than patronising you ?

Lamentations · 19/09/2019 20:21

Nothing lovelier than a baby in a babygrow. Tell your DH to shut up.

SoyDora · 19/09/2019 20:22

She's getting a bit old to go out in them

Why?

I think babygros are pyjamas

Why?

Pebbles16 · 19/09/2019 20:22

What the heck is she supposed to wear? A ball dress?

Purpleartichoke · 19/09/2019 20:22

Under 1 year, there really is no difference between pajamas and clothing, except for the rare photo op where you put them in something impractical for 5 minutes.

00Sassy · 19/09/2019 20:23

@Smelborp cross post!

Catladiesaremyheroes · 19/09/2019 20:23

Well, that’s taught you to not send lovely pics to him throughout the day Wink

EssentialHummus · 19/09/2019 20:24

This for me too. Though OP, top tip for the sock pulling - put socks under tights, or use tights instead of socks under trousers when the weather gets cold.

alltummy · 19/09/2019 20:24

People used to say this to me. Saddest milestone to date when was my dd stopped fitting in babygrows. They've got the rest of their lives to wear outfits. Let babies be babies!!

ZogorElmer · 19/09/2019 20:25

I don’t tend to take my DD out in a babygro unless I’ve not had time to change her clothes in a morning. I do feel like they are pj’s! Although I wouldn’t judge anyone else who did.

DD tends to wear leggings and a t-shirt.

EssentialHummus · 19/09/2019 20:25

...plus most shops do babygrows to 24 months, so clearly someone's using them.

BishopofBathandWells · 19/09/2019 20:25

My DD is 18 months old. Today she was wearing a babygrow with socks over the top, wellies, a jumper and a coat. We went out to jump and splash in puddles. It's comfortable, easy to get off when she gets home, and I consider it like a onesie. Honestly, they're kids. Why impose shit on them when they're supposed to be free?

letsdolunch321 · 19/09/2019 20:26

Babygro's - ROCK. Easy access, no accessories like socks to pull
off.

OP - maybe DH can get your dd ready each day before he starts his day !!

DillyDilly · 19/09/2019 20:28

I wouldn’t text or send him photos during the day anymore. If he wonders why he hasn’t heard from you, tell him you didn’t have time, you were struggling.

TurquoiseDress · 19/09/2019 20:28

YANBU

He is being UTTERLY ridiculous

I dressed both my DCs in babygros a lot when they were tiny

They were warm & comfortable and able to crawl around easily

I was the polar opposite to other friends who dressed their babies in full blown outfits from the first week or two- jeans, shoes, cardigans

Anyhow, that's quite a mean comment from your OH, implying you didn't manage to dress your baby today

weebarra · 19/09/2019 20:28

Nah, fuck that. I hate seeing wee ones all dressed up like mini adults, especially in jeans and a shirt. Babies are babies!

TheBigFatMermaid · 19/09/2019 20:28

Perfect for this weather. Then as it gets colder, perfect to add layers to but still wear.

Haffiana · 19/09/2019 20:28

I am with your DP on this. Mine never left the house without dress, heels and mascara.
