Towards the corned beef key!
Why do they still exist? They either snap off and the can is an awkward shape to use a tin opener on or it presses tightly against your finger as it turns round.Whats wrong with making the pull can lids surely I'm not asking much here? Btw I'm being (a bit) lighthearted.Making corned beef hash.

I've still got the scar on my thumb from a corned beef tin from 40 years ago!

iklboo · 19/09/2019 17:48

My little finger is still scarred & stiff after a corned beef encounter over 20 years ago. Lethal things.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/09/2019 18:02

They're so old fashioned! Most other tinned foods come with the ring pull why not that?

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 19/09/2019 18:10

Because it didn't work!!I had ring pull corned beef and the can would only open halfway making it more deadly than the dreaded keys ever were...

Stressedout10 · 19/09/2019 18:32

I must be a freak I've never had a problem with them 🤷‍♀️

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/09/2019 18:34

@Stilllivinginazoo no! There is no hope then

SilverySurfer · 19/09/2019 18:36

So glad it's not just me, I get it half opened (after lacerating my hands several times) and resort to digging out the corned beef in tiny pieces with a fork. Not much use if you needed slices for any reason.

Windydaysuponus · 19/09/2019 18:37

Yabu to eat such stuff..

KatherineJaneway · 19/09/2019 18:38

I want corned beef hash now Grin

FairyDust92 · 19/09/2019 18:38

I refuse to make my partner corned beef hash now because of those bloody keys!

Ohbuggerlugs · 19/09/2019 18:40

They’re little fuckers

redwoodmazza · 19/09/2019 18:40

I use an ordinary tin opener round the top and bottom and push the corned beef out using the cut metal shape.

haveagoldstar · 19/09/2019 18:44

I didn't realise until a few years ago that you have to turn the key upside down before you use it!

Never had a problem since.

speakout · 19/09/2019 18:47

I like them, such a delicate little mechanism

DontCallMeShitley · 19/09/2019 18:53

I find them easy to use. Ring pulls are another thing entirely. How can something that is supposed to make a tin easy to open be so difficult to lift from the top of the tin in order to use it, resulting in said tin opening only half way without brute force and then spilling the contents all over the worktop, wall and me? I have never had any damage from a corned beef can or key but plenty from a ring pull can.

Terribleusername · 19/09/2019 18:59

And now I want corn beef hash.

Davros · 19/09/2019 19:07

I buy it in a packet from M&S

x2boys · 19/09/2019 19:08

Me too Grandad only my middle ,Iremember doing it and having a face cloth wrapped around it ,I'm 46 in November so probably 43 ish years agoHmm

Bouffalant · 19/09/2019 19:09

Ooh corned beef hash and beans.

I'm on a restricted medical diet at the mo but I'm making a list of all the things I'm going to eat when I'm better. Hash is going to be one of them.

aintnothinbutagstring · 19/09/2019 19:11

🙋Also have the scar from nearly ripping my finger off with one of those things. I only eat sliced corned beef now, I'm safe with that.

Makesmilingyourbesthobby · 19/09/2019 20:46

🙋🏼‍♀️ me too, scar down one of my fingers that's around ten years old now I dread opening the things,
if my mother is visiting and sees me attempting to open a corned beef tin now she takes it off me and kindly does it for me.

longwayoff · 19/09/2019 20:53

Put a spoon or fork into the keytop and you can open the can using it as a handle. Hard to describe but very effective.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/09/2019 21:30

@longwayoff Game changer

CornedBeef451 · 19/09/2019 21:40

I once managed to cut all 10 fingers opening a tin of corned beef. I didn't discover them all at once though, I'd put a plaster on, start again and find more blood. Another plaster, carry on with the tin, more blood. It took ages.

I ended up just rinsing the blood off the contents and hoping for the best.

DopeyDazy · 19/09/2019 21:42

theyre good for unintentional suicide by cut wrist
