to think Little Britain wouldn't be allowed today

Just came across some old Little Britain clips on Youtube. I'm really shocked! The amount of racism, disablist and sexist stuff. It was only back in 2007 I think that the filming ended so it wasn't that long ago at all! There is no way this would be allowed on tv now, surely?!

*Brexit so

When are MN bringing in that edit feature?!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/09/2019 21:09

I remember Watching, Dobby - another brilliant series. Laugh out loud funny.

Andwhat about Second Thoughts? And Chance in aMillion?

And of course - Keeping up Appearances

HelenaDove · 17/09/2019 21:09

Forces TV has been my main channel since February. They reran The Equalizer from March to August. Love that Watched as a teen too when it was originally on ITV. Now its Quantum Leap.

Shelley WAS fab. I HAVE to get it on DVD.

HelenaDove · 17/09/2019 21:11

Second Thoughts Yes James Bolam and Linda Bellingham

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/09/2019 21:11

Shelley WAS fab. I HAVE to get it on DVD.

Great minds! I might ask for it for my birthday.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/09/2019 21:12

Hell's Bells - there were so many good comedy shows - and all they repeat is the rubbish ones.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/09/2019 21:14

Ooh! Oooh!

Rising Damp!

I loved Rising Damp!

lotusbell · 17/09/2019 21:14

@HeadLikeAFuckinOrange, my favourite ever, but no, you'd never get away with it now. Norks, jugs and smashing blouses. Ahhh i can quote it all day long 🤣

recededpronunciation · 17/09/2019 21:15

My kids are addicted to ‘Allo ‘Allo and Blackadder and quote from them endlessly.

Grumpos · 17/09/2019 21:15

Oh come on! JUST CALL ME BUBBLES DAAAAHHHHHHLINGGGGGG

That was hilarious - not bc it’s a joke at her size but bc she was a cheeky fucker, as MN would say

CHAMPAGNE FOR EVERYONEEEEE

HelenaDove · 17/09/2019 21:16

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/09/2019 21:16

One Foot in the Grave - don't know what I didn't think of this one sooner - we have it on DVD and it's STILL hilarious!

GabsAlot · 17/09/2019 21:17

Its stil show on Gold sometimes-i love it yes they went far that was the point though

BackToTheOIdHouse · 17/09/2019 21:21

I couldn't stand Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps or Men Behaving Badly. The very worst of the 90s.

The Fast Show was brilliant though, as was (and still is) anything Vic & Bob did.

NightLion · 17/09/2019 21:24

I loved Brush Strokes during the late 80's and picked up a dvd copy from my local library a couple of years ago to watch for a bit of cosy nostalgia. I wouldn't recommend it though: it has dated terribly. The thing that struck me the most, was the appalling sexism throughout, which i believe was a reflection of broader society at the time, rather than any particular incident in the script.

emmetgirl · 17/09/2019 21:26

I think it's still bloody funny

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/09/2019 21:29

That's what I was worried about NightLion

What was that one with Wolfie Smith?

Oh - Citizen Smith

TumblingTumbleWeeds · 17/09/2019 21:30

The only things that can be laughed at anymore in the UK is having sex and getting drunk. The UK used to have the best comedy, now you're all scared shitless about offending yourselves.

We laugh at the inappropriate - that's what makes it so funny.

I just read that a ban on eating dogs and cats has been blocked in UK because It might offend people. Is this true????!!!!!!!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/09/2019 21:30

And Porridge.

The original

FenellaMaxwell · 17/09/2019 21:30

I didn’t find it funny at the time either, but this bit still is.....

to think Little Britain wouldn't be allowed today
SarahAndQuack · 17/09/2019 21:31

I never thought it was funny. Blackadder, OTOH ... I love that.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/09/2019 21:31

Not that I know of Tumbleweed

Back on comedies - Ever Decreasing Circles, anyone?

mytinyfiredancers · 17/09/2019 21:32

@FenellaMaxwell YES! That's the one I said about.

Brilliant.

And I'm no skinnymalinks before anyone tells me off for laughing at fat people. I could do with a bit of dust myself.

PassMeAnotherCoffee · 17/09/2019 21:32

It wasn't ever funny.

pinkstripeycat · 17/09/2019 21:32

Everyone at the time was a surprised it was allowed. There is an adult American cartoon on TV all the time and it is really really bad. It even makes jokes about paedophilia
