...to use someone's wheelie bin for dog shit if it's been left out for ages?

Our bins were collected last Thursday.

Some houses regularly leave their bins in the street or back alley.

If my dog has inconveniently shat, I'll use these bins to dump the poo if I pass them.

My take on this is that if people were bothered about random strangers using their bins, they'd take them in like everyone else does and like you're supposed to. If there's a bin hanging around on the around the street I'm going to assume its for public use Wink

My neighbour (who does collect his bins in like me) was shocked at my blatant use of other people's bins. I think I've gone down in his estimations and, TBH, I wasn't very high up in the first place Grin

Now, clearly the unreasonable people in all of this are the lazy cunts who can't be bothered fetching their bins in. But, aside from them, if we start from the assumption that these lazy fuckers will always keep their bins out... AIBU?

Bat you don't need to look, if someone puts dog shit in your bin it stinks when you open it.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 17/09/2019 12:52

I live in a row of terraced/semi detached Victorian houses-most of which do not have access to the back from the street so my bin sits inside my front gate along side my front path.

People open my gate and walk in to put their dog poo in my bin. It attracts flies and stinks and we walk past it every time we go in the house. It is beyond grim and terribly antisocial.

However you feel about the bin placement your neighbours bins are not yours to use!

JacquesHammer · 17/09/2019 12:54

The utter irony of calling other people lazy when you can't be bothered to carry your own dog's crap home.

OrchidInTheSun · 17/09/2019 12:54

So they're lazy if they leave their bins out, but you're not lazy if you can't be arsed to take your dog shit home Hmm

MarySibleysFamiliar · 17/09/2019 12:54

I would think it rude tbh. There are a lot of factors to consider though to see if it's CF territory or just a slight bit cheeky. Does your area do all general waste only like mine with weekly collections or recycling mainly with longer times between collections? Does the neighbour keep their bin clean or is it like mine and I'm not too bothered about the contents. Is the bin left out so anyone can use it if they like rather than littering? Is it left out because the householders struggle to bring it back in?

My bin lives on the front street on a patch of council grass beside mine and the neighbour's house. To take my bin back on to my property would require someone very strong to haul it up the steps each week back on to the street. I also want people to use my bin (though unsealed dog shit bags would be a huge no no.) because I despise littering.

Until you know if the neighbour minds or not, take your bags home and bin them.

Melfish · 17/09/2019 12:56

It would piss me off as the binmen here only pull the bin bags out of your bin; they don't attach your bin to the lorry and tip the whole lot in. So I'd have to retrieve any random bags of dog shit or whatever that people chuck in my bin and add it to my bin bag on collection. No thanks.

tomboytown · 17/09/2019 12:56

It’s absolutely disgusting to put your dogs poo in someone else’s bin

TheQueef · 17/09/2019 12:56

I put used cat litter in my bin.
I'm not precious about shit at all but after it's emptied I like to throw a bucket of disinfectant in and then when dry a scoop of wash powder to stop the stink.
I pay my council tax so indirectly fund dog shit bins and public bins it doesn't extend to my household bin though.
(Before anyone tells me it isn't my bin, it is I bought it in 1993 when wheelie bins replaced metal, it's MINE)

LadyOfTheCanyon · 17/09/2019 12:57

Well it seems like you're conflating the two issues. Is it unreasonable that other people don't take their bins back in? Maybe it is. Is it unreasonable to put your dogshit in their bins? Yes, assuming there's not a massive drip feed about how you haven't got a bin.
Hmm

StrikeAPosy · 17/09/2019 12:57

Thanks for all the comments. It looks like most people think I'm unreasonable, thanks MN jury Grin

Wouldn't that make you a lazy cunt not to put your own dog shit in your own bin?

That's grim and I'd be fuming if someone put shit in my bin. I hope they take a dump in yours on Thursday before you have time to get in.

BusterGonad · 17/09/2019 13:05

I put stickers on my bin because I'm bin day I'd be left with the fowl shit smelling bin of a dog owner. Dog shit has to be one of the vilest smelling things in the world. A bagged dog shit left in the sun in a bin for 2 weeks is vile, especially when it's not even your dog! Envy

messolini9 · 17/09/2019 13:10

Stop victim-blaming, take your shit home & put it in your own bin.

MyNameIsIrrelevant · 17/09/2019 13:12

Why are they 'lazy cunts' just cos they don't take their bin into their garden?

Judge much, bitch?

And use your own bin!

PumpkinP · 17/09/2019 13:13

I think yabu, my upstairs neighbours never bring there bins it but it means dragging it up the stairs through the communal building out the back door down the steps and into the bin shed. I wouldn’t bother with that either so they just leave it out on the street in front of my garden. I don’t care

fanniboz · 17/09/2019 13:15

I wouldn't do this anyway (I live very near a dog poop bin and just generally don't put dog waste into the wheelie bin) but if I did I'd be afraid my neighbour would know it was me on account of the dog hanging around my house Grin I'm afraid YABU, OP

JemSynergy · 17/09/2019 13:19

I caught a women putting her dog shit in my bin and I told her to remove it. My bin collection wasn't for another week and there was no way I wanted her dog shit festering in my bin for a week. It makes the bin and the area around it stink and attracts flies.

hellhavenofury · 17/09/2019 13:21

I with you OP - Its a bin, its not like I am coming into your house and using your kitchen bin. I can't believe people are that sensitive over a smelly wheelie bin! At least we pick it up :D

Nanny0gg · 17/09/2019 13:24

Entitled?

That would be the person who doesn't take their dog's shit home to dispose of in their own bin (or a public dog poo bin)

Not the people who leave their bins out.

Ginkypig · 17/09/2019 13:29

You've got a fucking cheek calling them lazy when you are so lazy you can't even be bothered to take your own bag of shit to a bin that either belongs to you or is for use by the public.

No one likes the ones who don't take in their own bins but that doesn't mean you should throw shit into them even if it is bagged.

Lonecatwithkitten · 17/09/2019 13:31

Glad to see I'm seen as a lazy cunt, as I appear able bodied, but have a chronic pain condition. When I have a flare I find moving the wheelie bins hard and my DP often travels a lot. Tomorrow morning he will leave for 2 weeks and will move the wheelie bins to the front of the house to help whilst he is away.
Get a dicky bag, a neoprene holder to put your full poo bags in to carry them home or to a poo bin.

Bluetrews25 · 17/09/2019 13:35

I live on a dog walking route. Put my bins out early, bring them in at 7pm when I get home. I get dog poo in my garden waste bin (not allowed), glass and plastic bin (not allowed), and paper and card bin (not allowed). Drives me mad as I have to get it out and put it in my non-recyclable bin.
YABU.
All of you who do this ABU.
Can I come and dump my stuff in the wrong bin of yours? A load of glass bottles in the bottom of your garden waste? Hurled in? What's the problem? It's a bin!

Millie2016 · 17/09/2019 13:41

The only reason I would have a problem with this is because our binmen/women open the lid, reach in and pull out the big bin sacks. This would mean the small dog poo bags would stay continually at the bottom stinking etc.
I’d rather you put the bag in a wheelie bin then throw them up into the branches of a tree which is what people around my area seem to do.

Gazelda · 17/09/2019 13:42

The OP would go down a storm on my village's Facebook group.
We've had some corker posts, but this would be 100% legend.

1forAll74 · 17/09/2019 13:54

Yes, you are now very unpopular for using other peoples bins. Bins are allocated to each property, and considered as owned, some have numbers on them, I have a Cat sticker on one of mine, and don't want any dog poo in it..

There are enough wars in the world, without having any bin wars around.
