Especially an office with a tiny window and the whole foot print is probably 15ft by 10ft

Office standard meal, almost as common as chicken and rice or curry 🤷🏼‍♀️ Only time we all complained was an off fish pie 🤢

SiliconHeaven · 16/09/2019 20:49

Perfectly normal in my office too, sorry

MIdgebabe · 16/09/2019 20:51

I don’t mind smells so much, but crunching of apples or salad or the rustling inside a crisp packet does my head in for some reason.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 16/09/2019 20:53

That really wouldn't bother me.

Unless the beans made them fart all afternoon, of course...

WeMustGetOffTheMountain · 16/09/2019 20:54

Nope, sorry I think YABU. Chilli is a fairly standard meal, and is delicious warmed up the day after! If it offends you that much then YOU go to the canteen.

Cookit · 16/09/2019 20:54

Since when does chilli have a particularly strong smell?

Egg sandwiches would be worse and they are a perfectly normal and acceptable thing to eat at one’s desk.

Beaverdam · 16/09/2019 20:56

Whats wrong with that?

xtinak · 16/09/2019 21:01

Normal in my office too. And once someone puts their lunch on and we smell it everyone is suddenly starving and queuing to do theirs.

JaceLancs · 16/09/2019 21:11

We don’t have a canteen or dining room
You can either eat in office, in your car, or outside if it’s fine (picnic benches in garden area)
The kitchen has nowhere to sit and I prefer not to eat standing up

Cannotresist · 16/09/2019 21:18

Chili does reek of garlic and cumin. I find any hot food is pretty grim in a small office. However mindful there is never rarely comment, the vast majority of people I ever work with don’t really seem to care or pretend they don’t. I’ve never said anything in any office I’ve worked in but I really don’t like it and spend a lot of time with windows open.

Vanhi · 16/09/2019 21:34

Chili does reek of garlic and cumin.

No. Garlic and cumin smell of garlic and cumin. Chilli doesn't smell of those unless you put them in it.

DoraleeRhodes · 16/09/2019 21:37

Wouldn’t bother me, all sorts of last night’s leftovers get eaten in my office. We also don’t have anywhere other than at our desks so no way of taking it elsewhere.

JemSynergy · 16/09/2019 21:52

Wouldn't have a problem with it, infact I'd be envious they were eating chilli.

RollaCola84 · 16/09/2019 22:00

@Vanhi - chilli is supposed to have garlic and cumin in it....

Standard in my office and frequently consumed by me. I would say the only no-no is warmed up fish, cold tuna/salmon or whatever doesn't smell much imo.

Many offices don't have anywhere to go other than your desk and I've had many posts where not having time for a lunch break was pretty normal. Not bad time management, just overly busy.

I think it should be all or nothing. Either ban all types of foods or accept all foods in the office.

Vanhi · 16/09/2019 22:18

chilli is supposed to have garlic and cumin in it

Says who? It's chilli. So long as it has chilli in it, the rest if flexible.

LulaLandry · 16/09/2019 22:20

Why are brits so weird about any food with a smell Confused

Oldbluecarpet · 16/09/2019 22:21

We have a tinned fish eater :(

RollaCola84 · 16/09/2019 22:25

@Vanhi Mexicans ??? I've never seen a recipe for chilli that didn't include garlic and cumin.

dowehaveastalker · 16/09/2019 22:29

Try century egg........ chilli is fine stop being so silly.

dollydaydream114 · 16/09/2019 22:31

If you are hypersensitive to smells, which you absolutely are if you think chilli stinks, that is very much your problem and nobody else’s. You can’t expect other people not to eat totally normal food in your presence just because you personally have a problem with it. Hold your nose and think yourself lucky it’s not kippers.

dollydaydream114 · 16/09/2019 22:33

@LulaLandry Most of us aren’t, honestly! Mumsnet, for some reason, seems to be a particular hotbed of prissy olfactory drama queens, but I rarely meet them in real life.

motherheroic · 16/09/2019 22:34

It's fish and yellow bananas that I can't stand. When the banana has spots it doesn't smell, but when it's pure yellow it STINKS and the snapping noise sounds horrible.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 16/09/2019 22:35

I’d rather chilli than the smell of unwashed soap shy armpits
